On a more serious note - our water is still a work in progress. In general we choose our colors not for their realism, but for more coherent visuals (read: Art!)
EDIT: also we´re developing this game in a coastal town. Mainland, true, but with our own share of floods and foghorns piping in the night.

As someone living by the Gulf of Finland, I assure you that's the colour of the water around here. Most of the time anyway.

That is because weather in this part of the world during this season is mostly shit (and gray). Water has a different color also because of certain flora and fauna - which is very different depending on the part of the world where you happen to look at said water.This is how ocean should look like, angry, murderous, terrifying... If you hire Avellone you can use him as oceanic color palette consultant, the man was born on the atlantic coast but lives on the pacific coast I think, he's seen all the colors.

Also the Gulf of Finland is really shallow and everybody around it keeps shitting into it. That makes for a vibrant microflora. Meaning, the water is brown, green, or grey, and murky, most of the year, and gets a nice scum of cyanobacteria towards late summer, which gives it pretty accents of bright green. It only becomes bottle-green and somewhat clear towards late autumn, just before it freezes over, and that only if it's been calm enough for the silt to settle.
It's an improvement though, when I was a kid it also produced brownish suds.
