I can see those three extra months needed. There is a general feeling of needing a couple more tweaks everywhere, not big things buuut. For example, mouse targeting is a very special person, mouse speed is meh, mouse camera panning is bad coming from Dota, and the camera has a couple of zooming/obstruction glitches easily reproducible, music sometime stops for too long between tracks. Framerate is on the eh side. Gamewise everything has checked up okay for me so far and that's good but I guess the full game will have a couple of booboos.

Agree here the camera and control is atrocious. For some reason I also cant rotate the camera a full 360 degrees.

That's because Larian has not intended the camera for 360° turns. All static objects in the game are made with a largely fixed perspective in mind, meaning they would look very strange from a much different angle. The advantage is that they can save some polygons and optimize the area design for this fixed perspective (less scenery obscuring npcs or other objects due to bad camera angle and such). Doesn't always work perfectly, though.

Btw., I don't think the camera is really so bad, but then again I also did not have that big issues with e.g. NWN2...

That was done deliberately, so the artists didn't have to polish every angle of the world. It was a time and money-saving thing

If you want, you can indeed enable full camera rotation:

So, on to 360° camera rotation (on Win7):

1) Go to your DOS Users folder (on my PC: C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin where XXXXX stands for the User you are logged in). Open up the PlayerProfiles directory and select the profile you're using.

2) There you will find the file "config.lsx". (Optional: Make a backup, just in case). Open it.

3) In the file find

<node id="ConfigEntry">
<attribute id="MapKey" value="GameCameraRotation" type="22" />
<attribute id="Type" value="2" type="5" />
<attribute id="Value" value="XX" type="6" />

and replace XXX with 360. The original value is 30, i think.

4) Save the file and start DOS.

Voila, you can now rotate the camera 360°.

Some environmental puzzles also assume you're not able to rotate 360 too. My mouse panning improved and the experience felt much better after upping it by 0.4 in the Game menu, where it's hidden.

i bet this game will have a fucking huge 'unofficial patch' with the main feature of 'enabling full 3d camera with redone objects for details' by some huge faggot.

Oh god, please link. I want to see that.

I think he is talking about this:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/230230/discussions/0/630802979705923141/

But to be fair, the guy kinda seems to have a point: it's something forgivable since the game is so open, but is a bit inconsistent that certain NPCs are bothered if you try to get their objects, but others have no reaction at all - if it's really what happens in the game. (But putting a disclaimer "this belongs to someone" is a retarded suggestion, of course.)

As I didn't get to play the game yet, I don't know if he is just talking nonsense.

He's talking nonsense. You can't open desks, doors or chests in NPCs houses and NPC owned items have their own mouse pointer. Everything outside it is FFA, save some exceptions that will trigger a char warning message.

The one that yes, is buggering, is coming out that forgiven door and NPCs not reacting.

Keep in mind that that thread was made on January 20th, and there have been a lot of updates since then.

I pledged $200 (50 here, 150 on KS) to get early access to the editor. Still kinda pissed they reneged on that deal.

Zep--
Did you get your money back? After all, Larian did say they would give the money back to people who pledged higher tier and wished for it.

Dragon Commander didn't have almost 6 months of feedback before release.

Many people shun Early Access as quick money grab but it damn works well in therms of polishing game. I don't have any doubts Larian will patch game after release and they will probably support game over next year or two. Thanks to polishing game they will also have better reviews which will move more units sold across retailers.

Any sort of early early access is bad idea imho, should only be done with people you can screen beforehand.

Bollocks.

Crash reports, forum bug tracking, save with bugs and so on. Also if game has multi netcode, serverload, patching system and so on.

That is naturally all technical but there is something like feedback on actual game. Stat balance, skill usefullness, story feedback, quest feedback, combat balance and so on.

Imo for game like DOS EA is best thing ever considering scope of the game and systems in place.

Imagine if Arcanum had EA. Fixed combat, spell rebalance, removing harm or changing it to poison, freaking mines rebalance, removing of real time combat and so on, same with Bloodlines or other broken on release games.

Thanks to EA probably those games would be insta 9/10 10/10 in reviews and this probably would mean they would sell a lot more and also probably we would be playing today Arcanum: Of Oil and Witches , Vampires: BloodRuchGroin, Tales from Faerun and other games we don't have today

Lawlz. If Arcanum or Bloodlines had early access, the games would've ended up being cancelled.

Having an extended beta test group != giving out access to an early alpha. We have an old idiom here: "one shouldn't show incomplete work to idiots or to ones with excess wisdom". And any game project backer group will include plenty of both. Instead of getting helpful feedback you'll spend your time doing damage control.

It's funny that you chose to bring up this point in the thread dedicated to the game which has gotten possibly the warmest reception among all the currently upcoming RPGs.

Clearly, it's not true.

And you know, even if it was, the money might just be worth it.

said no developer ever

I have also old idiom for you:
" Potato, potato, potato." Which transcribed from old ancient potato language means . Either show proof to back up what you are saying or no potato for you.

For all ea games out there there are non which are cancelled, developers are happy as fuck, games improve massively and at the same time they are building community which later will mod the game.

But i guess for some developers dealing with people that criticize your design decision may be like dealing with your wife cheating on you.
I guess Diablo 3 developers have full cuckold fetish by now after their community feedback post release which imo proves that before or after critic doesn't matter. What matter is if it is before release you can fix it, after release you probably won't have a chance.

Also big thing for EA is developer support. I think both kickstarter and EA are on same principles. Worst thing you can do for both is to release something and don't interact with community.

Game uninstalled until release. I'm starting to look for a playdate to RP the game with. Would any Codexer be interested?

Beta V1.0.79 An update with personality

Community Announcements - lar

Hello everybody,

It's only been 12 days since our last big update, but we're in overdrive at Larian so there's lots to share already. Here's a quick overview of the main changes:
  • AI Personalities part 1 is there. If you feel up to the challenge, you can give your main protagonists a will of their own, and they'll make their own choices, just like another player would in multiplayer. Currently only random personalities are activated, but it makes for a very different game. Do try it out, it's a lot of fun.
  • Primary stats now affect your skill values. This is the next step in the changes we decided to do to improve the amount of class free builds you can make. The tooltips contain all you need to know.
  • The system powering the treasure generation has been refined. Loot balancing has been further improved. Disarm trap kits for instance now actually drop.
  • We did several modifications to the tutorial dungeon, including a new encounter.
  • Surfaces & clouds now have their own level
  • The hint system is now operational
  • The credits screen now works
  • You can now differentiate between stacking items or wanting to craft quantities of items
  • Weapons that do elemental damage now have fancy fx
  • We added rotate buttons to character creation screen
  • Surfaces have sound now
  • You can now select your starting skills during character creation (still a few issues)
  • Projectiles have an offset above the ground causing less terrain/projectile interference
  • We added the Stabbey waypoint in Cyseal
  • A lot of effort was done on improving the tooltips (ongoing)
  • There have been plenty of fixes to the encounters, the AI and the balancing

To see the other 130 fixes and changes, head over to the Larian Forums.

You've got to hand it to Larian. While other shops flip-flop, talk up what they will do or talk down what others do, Larian is just getting shit done. That is one company that is quite comfortable in the crowd funded arena. They are quite successful at being approachable and open about their process yet knowing where they are going and what they are doing.

Lar is the man with a plan. Styg is the other best example I can think of right at this moment.
