At some point in the Demo videos, 3 guards are fighting 2 orcs.

In the 2 videos I saw, the player accidentally killed one of the guards with a fireball. But the other guards didn't seem to mind at all.

That was weird, considering negative reactions to killing are the most basic behaviors, even in simplistic RPG's. He didn't seem to mind about the guards corpse either, would have been cool to see them trying to get some help or something.

Pre-alpha, my brotheren.

Are we sure?

Yes? They've only said that multiple times per video. You also had guards talking while being dead, stub interface elements everywhere, spells that crash the game because they aren't implemented, et cetera. The game is in a very early state. If anything, it's remarkable that this early it looks so functional and the gameplay is so emergent, says something to the type of game they're trying to make.

Yes I know that. What I meant is : are we sure that the guards didn't react adequately to their companion's death (by your hands) because it's pre-alpha?
Maybe they just used their brains and saw that it was an accident. It should be like this in other RPGs. I hate when in a battle against the bad guys, I accidentely hit an allied NPC, and everyone turns agains me.

Accident or not, you just killed on of their companions by throwing a fireball at him. He's dead now.
They could have at least commented.

Actually, we were told that when we engage an enemy with allies and friendly fire occurs, they don't turn on us. Death by friendly fire, OTOH, should have consequences, as that's WAAAAAY too exploitable.
I agree with the above. Friendly fire should not cause alignment changes, but "friendly death" is a bit different pair of shoes.

EDIT: Holy shit, was that ForkTong in the weresheep video? I actually did not recognize him. Great voice work!

Also, yesterday was a really good day for this Kickstarter. Let's hope it gets better and better!

Yeah, but they didn't say it would be for the purpose of the game.

Expect great musical score at Larian's office parties, though. :troll:

Hitting the $800k target seems increasingly feasible...
Could we swap the "companions" stretch goal with the "NPC schedules" one? To be perfectly honest, I consider the latter much more important given the heavy impact of Ultima 7 influences on Original Sin's design.

Much more difficult to implement. It has been suggested already.

As story-fag I rather have some compelling stories, rather than a system that tells the NPCs when to fart and when not to.

They'll hit the 800k stretch goal no doubt. If it falls short of the last goal let's say ending at 900K, I wonder if they'll still put the 1mil stretch goal in the game but in a more limited form. I'll be cool with that.

They could implement day/night cycle as it worked in Baldur's Gate. There was absolutely no difference in NPC behaviour during night, but it looked nice. :troll:

Hmm, if the rest of the days match yesterday or more we'll end above 800k and seeing how the last days of campaigns seem to collect the most it doesn't seem unrealistic that the daily earnings'll icnrease further so we'll earn around 900K. Getting another 100k through paypal in the 2 weeks after the campaign doesn't seem unrealistic, especially as the codex/watch hasn't been added yet and that'll be another 7-10k I guess :).

Man, so close, yet so far away... :( I wonder why only less then 15 000 crpg fans for this. When they are in the range of at least 70 000. If they got even half of W2, Torment, or PE they would rocket past all the stretch goals.

Well, at least the last Numera update talked about it, so if even 50% of people who pledge to Numera read the update quite a few will look at the game.

I just did a playthrough with someone from downunda and accidently hit a soldier with my bow. He said "hey watch it" so they do at least react. But apparently not to magic.

BTW, shouldn't NPCs in general react to magic (especially source magic, which is pretty rare) with some kind of surprise? Or are they so used to magic that it doesn't bother them at all? ;)

I always remenber Final Fantasy VI, when you first use magic and ther combat stops, both your allies and the enemies asking WTF did you just did.

Is a fantastic scene IMHO, because as a player is absolutly natural to since go to the magic menu and cast a fireball or whatever. You never think on what that means to the rest of the world.

I played FF VI and didn't remember that scene either. Missed possibility for enemies to have some lines too. It could've been even something comedic like eveyrone is discussing magic instead of fighting each other.

When I learned that Thedas a derivative of "THE Dragon Age Setting", I lost all interest toward this franchise, because I realised it is the epitome of everything generic in fantasy.

Okay so I added Ohmwrecker's walkthrough to the frontpage. HAPPY NOW? HUH? ARE YA? :(
I'm a little happier than I was before, yeah.

In combat, hitting or killing allies happens, and they accept that.

If that would cause alignment changes, you'd be in big trouble.

Maybe there could be a Personality Trait that develops from repeatedly using AOE spells when allies are too close.

Unfriendly Fire - Lowers mana cost of AOE damage spells (or increases damage of AOE spells, something like that), but Raises Henchmen Hiring Price and Lowers NPC guard faction reactions (and/or maybe some other negative effect).

Thedas is a derivative of what? Seriously? Haha.
