So, I understand ForkTong is with Larian?
I have some question, then;

1. Bit of a silly question, but will there be keyboard movement controls?

2. What do the "personality" stats like contempt, compassion change?

I have no money, I have no job, and in few months I may have no home.
I just pledged to this KS. I think I have to reevaluate my life priorities, but still I feel all warm inside.

Swen specifically mentions Roguey in his latest blog post. TWICE.
Haha, it's cool to see Swen browses this place. I know he's going to see this, so he should register an account here. Come on and be a bro like your buddy ForkTongue. :smug:

Seriously though, your transparency on your blog is a really cool thing, and it would be cool to see you around here. I think this place has more of a soft spot for the Larian bros than most other developers so it shouldn't hurt too much.

:troll:

 I must be getting under his skin, how delightful. I'm not all doom and gloom though; of all the generic high fantasy turn based games coming out, Original Sin sounds the most promising. He should try to win over Winterfox, now that would be a difficult sale to make.

It's a pretty competitive space too, you have Antharion, Avadon 2: The Corruption, Blackguards, Chaos Chronicles, The Dark Triad: Dragon's Death, Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption and Might and Magic X. Possibly others too; thinking about it just makes me sick.

Plus it's also Josh Sawyer-donation-worthy. I'm sure he wouldn't approve of their approach to systems but he still considered it interesting enough.

That was nepotism. He's twitter-pals with Brenda and briefly worked with Romero on Gauntlet:Seven Sorrows.

Because it's fun to guess-
1. Probably not.

2. I think those stats will affect how the characters act should you choose to switch to AI companion mode.

Codex is above the Watch, finally! (but only in number of pledges)
Wait, what? Where is this information? If there's a Codex VS Watch pissing contest I want to at least see it!

Roguey: "Generic fantasy" is a fairly broad term and based on what we've heard so far, it's probably quite applicable to Project Eternity, too, despite the various interesting ideas it apparently intends to introduce. Still, much of the appeal of the Divinity games, as I think most of their fans would agree, lies in that they (mostly) manage to pull off a particular sort of light-hearted tongue-in-cheek humour that goes beyond the stereotypical fantasy jokes. Now I understand if it doesn't work for you, but trust me, when it does, it can make a world of difference. It's a large part of why Larian games don't feel like products calculated to appeal to some sort of target market. (I remember the breaking point for me with Divinity 2 was when I saw the interior of the pig-obsessed farmer's house -- far from the most clever or funny joke ever conceived, yet there's something endearingly silly about it that sold me on the game's aesthetic). I can't even think of any game in recent (or even not-so-recent) memory other than the River of Time which actually attempts to achieve something similar.

Secondly, I am of the Volournian school of thought in that I value the fun factor in my games very much. This means I can both admire and like a game like Mask of the Betrayer for its setting, great narrative elements and general ambition but would have a very hard time saying I liked it more than the Divinity games when the truth is that despite my general dislike of both the hack-and-slash and over-the-shoulder third person perspective action RPG genres, I was greatly enjoying myself most of the time I spent playing DD and the DKS, despite their less than optimal mechanics and balancing. On the other hand, I was unbelievably frustrated with MotB's controls, camera and tiresome high-level D&D buffathon RTwP combat all the way through, secretly wishing they'd made it an adventure game instead. In that sense, New Vegas for me is the only Obsidian game that measures up (and again, this is a game that - especially without Sawyer's mod - largely manages to be fun in spite of the weak mechanics inherited from Fallout 3).

He's probably just basing that information off people who immediately pledge after clicking from a referral link (Which monocled Codexers OBVIOUSLY would not do) but still. Huh. Interesting that Kickstarter shows that. Would be cool if other Kickstarted projects showed the breakdowns, you would think that would encourage competition and get you more cash money dollars.

I fnd it especially interesting for the Codex, that (good) RPG developers see that more than "glittering gems of hatred", websites like Glorious Codexia and that other one with the tower actually do contribute, way more than the big popamole portals.

Sure, both os us together barelly gave 20k, but that's almost 8% of the total amount. Not bad for websites that publishers usually don't give a shit about.

What approach to systems? We don't even know specifics about the systems and character creation and skill point distribution. I feel like Roguey has an overly inflated view on his own understanding of game mechanics, and latches on to Sawyer's theory without any personal critical thinking. Don't get me wrong, I do like and understand Sawyer's approaches to game balance and design. But I actually understand it, and no significant details in DOS would meet with Sawyer's "disapproval" as of yet.

FFS, stop latching onto other people's dogma and think for yourself. Even if they are right about one aspect, take that part and compartmentalize it into your own thoughts - don't take that cue to believe everything they say forever.
