Vault Brother who was Vault Dweller his brother was one day near the East Coast that was a trader town where was called Brothertown where Brotherhood was born and Vault Brother too. Vault Brother was smaller than Vault Brother so he couldn't join the Brotherhood of Steel, so he stayed at the East Coast and stayed. Vault Brother was practicisng so he coukd one day do it like Vault Dweller and get likes become into Brotherhood of Steel and that is time when it happened when nuclear warheads came down Brothertown and killed people in Brothertown and brahmin too and more people.

The nuclear warheads and mutants came and killed people in Brothertown and everywhere else at the East Coast and people said really loud "Help use, somebody soon!" and Vault Brother heard it so he went. Vault Brother travelled fast to where loud sounds come from to help them out there. They said all together "Help, Vault Brother! We are hurting!" and Vault Brother said back "I will help you if your hurting" and Rain Strife out fire and nuclear clouds and killed mutants and bandaided people to health and talked to rats. Then Vault Brother yelled out real loud "Mutants, stop, or I make you stop!" and founded "Brotherhood of Teal" to fight them better.

And then messenger came from Brotherhood of Steel and there was hostile takeover.

Sheriff: U-Uh.. Excuse me, I don't understand a word you're saying...

I lack the wit to put something hilarious here
NMA can make as many contests as they like if they have Defonten's work as a prize. So make some more contests please. Art, new factions, a better reason for leaving that damn vault, anything really. Then you could have your own whole Fallout 3 to compare the finished product to.

Paladin Brizzt eyed his companion Andhairra nervously, Andhairra is still talking to his 'rat' and insists on calling it 'Boo'.

"Quit eye balling the rat Andy, we're on a mission here" grumbled Brizzt as he starts the "Choppa", a modified vertibird captured from the previous war with the Enclave.

"Shhh, Brizzt. He's giving me recon information for a slice of cheese", hushed Andhairra as he held out a piece of blue cheese. Boo took a nibble and squeaked some more info. Andhairra inserted a fresh data cartridge into his PDA and started logging.

"You've lost it, man. It's a rat. It's worth twenty five exp, plant a 10mm round and move on" growled Brizzt. enough with the squeaking already! his mind screamed as the vertibird takes off.

"Look, Brizzt; my Speech skill is at 125% and I took the Rat-speak perk. Trust me, Boo knows a lot .

"Choppa, we're reading that you're heading into the East Coast zone. Please clarify." the radio crackled.

"We're investigating a rat-intel, Sir." Brizzt forced himself to say that and proceed to explain how it came to be. Laughter can be heard over the radio. fuck this shit!

"Andy, we're turning back. It's that or Boo gets it!" Brizzt pulls out his plasma pistol and aimed it at Boo who squeaked in terror.

"Brizzt! No! We're so close! Boo was right see the radar? We're right on top of it!"

"Close to wha-?!" A flash of red light and emergency klaxon interrupted their conversation. "We're being locked. How the fuck is there triple As ?!" he was about to hit the countermeasure button before he realized it doesn't exists. "Oh fu-" squeaks of terror filled the vertibird cockpit before a streak of rockets turned the Choppa into a fireball. The great East Coast Mutant War has claimed its first Brotherhood victims.

Codex 2012 Codex 2013 Codex 2014 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Make the Codex Great Again! Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
John Stalvern waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air. There were mutants in the base. He didn't see them, but had expected them now for years. His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
John was a BOS paladin for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the nuclear powered cars and he said to dad "I want to be on the nuclear powered cars daddy."
Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY MUTANTS"
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the east coast base of the BOS he knew there were mutants.
"This is Joson" the radio crackered. "You must fight the mutants!"
So John gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall.
"HE GOING TO KILL US" said the mutants
"I will shoot at him" said the super mutant and he fired the nuclear catapult. John plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.
"No! I must kill the mutants" he shouted
The radio said "No, John. You are the mutants"
And then John was a ghoul.

I just think, considering the VATS story and widely accepted nature of mutant "reproduction" in the Canon Fallout Universe, that a "Evil Mutant Army" thing like what Bethsoft did is simply a complete crap over all sense of logic, instead this is my proposal. I'm too lazy to write an actual story over it, but if this idea inspires you, whoever Codexer you are who are reading this, to write it, then go ahead and shove off it on Bethesda:

Fact 1: NCR Army has some mutants
Fact 2: Van Buren had a NCR x BoS war in planned storyline
Fact 3:
In one of the BOS endings in FO1 they invade Shady Sands
Fact 4: The NCR is continually expanding

Now if we take as basis the best ending for the NCR, and further a hundred of years or more into the time line, it's not a difficult thing to imagine they have expanded into the East Coast in their attempt to civilize the wastelands.

Now add some powderkeg to the NCR X BoS conflict, like for example BoS discovering reverse-engineering attempts on BoS technology by NCR and voila!

TOP SECRET EYES ONLY
January 7th 2236
Gen. Commanding Maxon BOS:
Paladin Linas, here are you orders. Sorry for the haste with which you were put into the field but we do not have much time to lose. Attached is the relevant background information on the targets you seek compiled by Senior Technician Bree,
“During the escalation of the war against the Super Mutants significant loses were inflicted against the Master’s horde and its supply chains by Brotherhood units and the individual/s from Vault 13 (unknown location). As there was only a single line of reinforcement between the Master’s mutant factory at the cursed Mariposa Military facility and the frontline it became increasingly easy to attack small formations of Super Mutants as they travelled to concentration areas.
In response during the last three months of the war (January-March 2162) the Master deployed up to thirteen roaming FEV teams equipped with several cart drawn improvised FEV dunking apparatus. Though they attacked several townships the majority of the teams were utterly ineffective at creating even basic useful mutations and as such the threat was ignored. We hypothesised that the volatile nature of pure FEV made the complex equation of correct exposure rates against size and health of the victim to be outside the bounds of the intellectually retarded (thanks to the FEV mutation process) Super Mutant rank and file.
However the appearance of renewed Super Mutant forces in the Northern California area gave suspicion that not only had several of these teams survived with their wretched machines but they have finally been unified under an intellect capable of significantly altering or understanding the process and producing significant new Super Mutant forces independently of the destroyed Mariposa facility.
We found and destroyed 10 of 13 FEV devices during the war and the aftermath. An eleventh was found impacted at the bottom of a canyon after a paladin team wiped out a massive infestation of mutated wildlife assaulting the Hamilton Homestead at the Sulphur Sea Delta.”
Paladin Linas you are charged with persecuting and destroying the final two of these FEV devices. Observation balloons have confirmed significant movement of pacified Super Mutant groups towards the East. We fear that whomever is in control of the FEV is planning a move East across the Irradiated Band and into uncharted territories safe from the honourable justice of the Brotherhood.
You have your own Paladin squads plus two initiate squads to aid in the search. If the Super Mutant numbers have grown significantly do not engage independently but call in Senior Paladin Rhombus and his mobile battlegroup.
Best Speed Paladin, Brotherhood Commander Maxon

Vault City Intel: intercept via radio burst traffic receiver – wideband broadcast MorseCode message.

Gen Commanding Maxon STOP
Attention of RHOMBUS urgent STOP
Linas has failed STOP
You have permission to pursue over the restricted line STOP
Persecute with maximum vigour STOP
All other considerations of supply reinforcement or archeotech recovery secondary STOP

Better than a few years ago, I'd say. You actually have something to choose from - Eschalon, Mask of the Betrayer, The Witcher...

Very interesting take, Mr Carrot :salute:

As for the RPG industry, Elwro paints too rosy a picture. It's being strangled and made uniform for consolitis in the US. Thankfully, that just means it's being marginalized towards indie and European developers, who seem to like handling the burden so far.

US mainstream dropped da ball y'all!

Mr Carrot, you can always set up a virtual machine under Vista (primary options being MS' Virtual Machine that's free, VMWare that's not exactly free, and some other open source and free software, name of which escapes me at the moment). Just install XP on it and run the game from there. If you do have a high-end system, you shouldn't have any significant performance hits, especially with VMWare. Virtual Machine forces a virtual graphics adapter emulation while you can remove the emulation layer in VMWare and have your actual video card function in it. I don't know about the other one, though.

I heard that there's a solution so easy that it sound stupid and works perfectly.

Mainly, you have to set witcher.exe compatibility to win xp, don't know if it works because I have XP and I like it that way.

(stupid concept, I know)

Come on! It'll serve you well for many other games afterwards. You can even state of the guest OS, which lets you run the OS just where you left, without having to boot into it first.

Sorry, I couldn't stretch it into a thousand words.

Jefferson looked at the compass. It was spinning wildly.
A blue mushroom cloud loomed over the horizon.

"Brothers !" he shouted over the deafening rumble. "The fused magnunuclear detonation has shifted the Earth's axis ! The West is now... EAST."

There was much silence.
