Still not sure how to feel about this 7.x in general - on the one hand, decent games are more dynamic and from a spectator perspective, it's exciting and fresh with a lot of action. On the other hand, pubs are the literal worst they've ever been, the patch is a 5 man deathball patch and random pubs can never group properly, there's always some moron getting picked off.

It seems that if you don't group constantly from 15 minutes onwards you're just going to lose. I don't like the fact that everyone levels so fast either. A strategic element of the game seems to have been lost, now there's no longer a tradeoff between farming and ganking/pushing - you simply can't farm at all. Smaller skirmishes are also less frequent because self-reliant gankers can't gank anymore (for example, Balanar) because of 50g tp scrolls. As soon as you dive a tower to kill someone, it's an instant power rangers 4 TP nearly every time. Shrines also make ganking a lot harder if you don't instagib someone.

7.03, MK added to captains mode after the 5th consecutive nerf

Slowed down the xp curve, less passive gold, less gold per creep early in the game (all of this slows the game down which is good), mek more expensive (cuz of headdress price increase) which leads to weaker push overall, talent rebalancing seems ok... overall I approve of these changes. Game was a 15 minute deathball shitfest nearly every match, hopefully things improve a bit now.

Does anyone else here still play this shit?

Yes. At least one game a day.

I really like the current meta (except the 5 man deathballing) because it rewards execution rather than farming for 40 minutes non-stop. Just have a game where we turned 24 - 3 kill disadvantage into a 60 minutes game win by executing good high ground defense.

I think with the Battlefury buff and the minus armour on towers, we might see splitpushing and hard farming carries (like Spectre and AM) back to some extent.

Yeah Hohohaha is cancer. Gotta be a top tier pub hero right now alongside Juggernaut. Early game nuke/utility and the ability to scale incredibly well to late game.

That, and the fact that lower MMR players seem to think that ganking only occurs from mid to sidelanes, and not the way around, therefore letting the frailest hero in the game freefarm for 20 minutes.

Eh I am late 2k scrub and usually play a roaming support. After one or two kill early, the sniper usually wisen up and call a support of his own to harras/gank mid themselves. The annoying thing is, if your lineup do not have a strong gap closer to pick the sniper off or a strong initiator (say, Storm, or Tide), highground offense will still be hell even though you could shut him down early in lane. With enough stalling he could come online and start turning the table around.

That's the worst against playing vs sniper - pushing high ground (and to a lesser extent, defending vs pushes). That's why sniper has always seen some kind of competitive play.

Dotka really needs the Prime MM feature (akin to CSGO), which is a separate MM queue for people that tied their acc to a phone number, eliminates smurfs, most cheaters and other nonsense. Could do wonders for new players as well, because low hours/mmr is a complete shitshow, tried to get my GF into it (she had some practice with bots prior to that) but we got rolled by smurfs 3 times in a row (granted I was on a smurf as well, but played only supports and chilled for the most part, so no inflated hidden MMR nonsense), shit's aggravating.

Sniper has not been seen in competitive play for years outside of a few OP patches. His toolkit brings nothing to the table; he has two selfish passives (Icefrog removed the mini-stun from Headshot a while ago, making it even worse), a killsteal ultimate and a light damage AoE slow. He's only useful when Shrapnel is overbuffed, or when certain heroes like Outworld Devourer are steamrolling the mid lane and need to be kept in check.

Sniper's only real quality is that he is a hero that is very good at turtling, which is not something the e-sports scene wants to see. The new Aghs and talents are giving him an edge, but those are bound to get nerfed soon.

There's so much nonsense in your post I don't know where to begin. "not something the e-sports scene wants to see" has absolutely no bearing on a hero being picked or banned - it's about that hero's ability to win games.

Since you don't seem to have a clue about what you're talking about, here, I'll help you out:

"Sniper has not been seen in competitive for ages".

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3075326507

Cloud 9 picked Sniper and won vs Cerberus in D2CL oh, an hour ago.

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3075231172:

Team Spirit picked Sniper and won vs Vega Squadron in WellPlay Invitational 2 hours ago.

https://www.dotabuff.com/matches/3075104805:

Team Spirit used their SECOND BAN (before first pick since you don't seem to know what happens in this game) on Sniper and won vs EWF for D2CL 3 hours ago.

I could go on and on, but please do continue your armchair analysis of why Sniper hasn't been picked in competitive for years.

 What the fuck do you think the metagame is balanced around? How do you think the "good heroes" come to be good in the first place? DOTA2 is a show.

The rest of your shitpost is a tryhard attempt at coming off as someone who has a clue, but fails due to a lack of reading comprehension. Sniper is not a competitive hero outside of his "OP" patches, which are few and far between => broadly true.

Your original point:
That's why sniper has always seen some kind of competitive play.
Yeah, if you started playing DOTA2 last year maybe.

But, since the mods are already ruffling their jewgold at what they will most likely consider to be a "non-productive post", I'm going to drop this here.

Maybe English isn't your first language, or you were dropped on your head as a baby, but when you say that a hero "has not seen competitive play for years" the corollary is that it isn't seeing competitive play RIGHT NOW, which was obviously refuted by 5 seconds of searching, which if you actually had a clue you would have done before posting nonsense.

But yeah, butthurt backpedaling. Crawl back to your hovel.

Sniper is a sneaky last pick though. So many heroes destroy him - PA, Spectre, a good Juggernaut (with a blink). Meepo who goes AFK farm while your team does nothing and is level 20 by minute 20. It doesn't matter that you own Meepo in lategame because there won't be a lategame. Pretty much all good gap closer carries. Also Tinker, Arc Warden etc etc. But PA and Spectre are the worst.

Getting ganked mid is the least of your worries - he is a hard target with shrapnel and it only gives space to your team if they fail, which is good.

What? Sniper only owns Meepo if he can hide during a teamfight in the back. Otherwise lategame Meepo just blinks and sheeps him.

That's the way. Sniper who gets caught is a dead Sniper, be it Meepo or any other strong hero with a gap closer item or ability.

Hello, what if hero x has all these amazing situational advantages over hero y? He would surely win and if you disagree, you are playing wrong :smug:

I'm pretty sure they lost because they aren't that great. They got some good moments though.
