I really like their "blood logo" thingy. Looks like in DA2 it has been improved with more expensive animation for EA as well. I always wondered why EA didn't make them do proper logo animation like they usually do with other games.

The dragon is cool.. in the logo since first game, even though I remember taking down every dragon I met in first try (ironically, dragonlings proved much more challenging).

Anyways, good job on the logo BioWare, I hope to see dragon tearing through TV screens and consuming console players souls in DA3.

.. oh right, gameplay.. err..

I wonder if Bioware will make a killing in making an urinal cake so people can take a piss on it and watch it slowly dissolve like in their logos. A great stocking stuffer for sure.

The action part looks really bad, and the tactical part looks exactly as it was in DA:O = MMORPG mechanics for the win.
Considering I stopped playing the first game because of boring-ass combat, I really hope they manage to improve the action part before releasing DA2.

Dont they learn on their mistakes?

No, they don't.

If you pay off the gaming press enough, you can keep making the same game you've made for the last decade but in a new wrapper, and you never have to improve the shit that sucks about it or hire competent designers, as long as you include 'new' features the kidz will love and you hype it to the moon.

this is EA's strategy. they saw how well it worked with the Madden franchise.

Except, EA's sports games have advanced A LOT over the years. Go play the original NHL (from 92) and then play NHL 11. 'Nough said.

Yeah, meanwhile Bioware hasn't improved shit ever since BGII, they are still publishing the same stuff. What's your point?

Stop lying.

The writing is better. The C&C is better. The characters are better. The endings are better.

Agreed.

The writing is banal shit boring. The C&C lead to absolutely the same outcomes. The characters are still recycled. The endings are crap.

I can't tell if you are really believing this, or you are just being sarcastic. Anyway, the C&C is truly better. But only a few years ago, an RPG didn't have to had good C&C, to be a great game. But suddenly every RPG must have that gameplay element. If there is C&C, then THAT IS TEH BESTEST RPG EVAR, even if it has lame gameplay.

It's sad that game developers seem unable or unwilling to focus on creating depth in more than one area. As is, it seems like they have a limited set of selling points, usually taken from contemporaneous industry trends - C+C, immersion, non-linearity and what-not - and they focus on the game's particular selling point while downgrading the rest.

If they could actually ADD better qualities to games, so that we got the latest selling point AND kept the focus on the previous selling points, we might have a good thing. Innovation would build upon game design, so that C+C was added to gameplay rather than being an alternative focus.

While I agree they're improving in most regards, I'd say the main story writing is getting blander and more predictable. As soon as you finish the tutorial you're told to gather the 4 armies and go fight the archdemon? Finish the tutorial and you're told to gather all the companions and go fight the reapers? You know the places you're going to visit from the start? Not even plot twists?

The execution of it is undoubtedly improving, but the overall story archs are crap, you could just as well go straight from the end of ME1 where you defeat one reaper and jump to the beginning of ME3 where the reapers are coming and you wouldn't lose anything.

For story-driven games they should have stronger stories.

I think the plot archs of 'gather 4 of x' is probably the most legit complaint one can throw at BIO games. But, the writing itself has improved.

The overall story archs are fine though they are predictable.. but, then, *shrug* 'Twists are overrated. KOTOR had the best 'twist' of any BIO game yet its my least favorite barring an expansion (SOU) and a joke of a hand held game (Sonic RPG).

I love BG1 as much as the next guy; but to say that outside of nostalgia that it holds up to modern BIo games in terms of story telling, writing, or characters is silly. I mean the character are basically perosnality traits and nothing else with no backstory, motivation, or story to say. And, the C&C is minimal at best outside of combat decisions.
