I'm fine with well-written and subtle gay characters in games. The problem is Bioware suck at writing well and being subtle.

"HI MY NAME IS ANDERS COULD YOU FUCK MY ASSHOLE? THANKS!"
A desire for "subtle" gay characters sounds like homophobia to me and the lack of a disproportionate negative reaction to any other (female) characters hitting on the player character in Bioware games proves it.

Hey hey, we're equal-opportunity romance haters here on the Codex. They all need to go, straight and gay.

As long as we're talking about it. The "romances" in Fallout 2 were fine. I find the romances in KoTOR to fit the rest of the material, and have a perverse enjoyment from the Bastila romance directly contradicting Lucas's stupid love = bad view point. I like the way you can seduce and use people in VtM:B.

For a Forum about Gaming you all are very keen to express your thoughts about fucking
Welcome to the Codex.

Of course a genetically inferior sapiens manboon such as yourself wouldn't see the subtleties beneath each post about homoerotic/transgender fornication in dice-rolling vidcons, but you may engage in conversation nevertheless.

Subtlety means don't beat me over the head with "HEY HERE'S THE GAY CHARACTER HE'S TOTALLY GAY." It's bad writing, annoying and usually just as insulting to them as it is to me. The hetero equivalent of "HEY I'M STRAIGHT LET'S FUCK" is equally annoying. Rest assured I dislike bad romance writing of any sexuality.

True story.

EDIT: BioWare's gays are actually pretty homophobic most often - completely stereotypical.
That goes for black people too.:smug:

I was being facetious about the romance part. I'd like to see explicitly gay and trans ~companions~ who aren't just there for the player character's pleasure. Stop being so fauxgressive Bioware.

G'luck with that.

Anyway, I've been wondering for a while, is there any need to keep this thread separate from the BioWare thread?

What's 'fauxgressive'? That like, 'faux progressive'?

Kinda sounds like modern feminism and a bunch of other stuff in a nutshell, if so.

EDIT: BioWare's gays are actually pretty homophobic most often - completely stereotypical. Their rendition of gays are taken straight out of some hillbilly's concept of a person that lives in San Fransico and goes to gay bars on saturday night in a ballerina-skirt.
Stereotypes are sometimes accurate. It's fine as long as there's a range, and well, Zevran, Fenris, Anders, Karl, Taliesen, Wade, Herren, and Saemus aren't the same character nor are Juhani, Leliana, Isabela, Merrill, Marjolaine, Branka, and Hespith (no comment on JE and ME characters, not being familiar with them). Also David Gaider is gay. It is true that gay people can be just as bad at writing gay characters as heteros.

Also I'm pleased that I make some offhand remark about the possibility of a transromance and the thread derails into a typical regurgitated Bioware thread.

They wouldn't exist as stereotypes if they didn't have some grounding in reality. The problem is when you paint an entire group with the same brush.
Edit: Semi-related video.

Roguey complaining about painting an entire group with the same brush is kind of rich.

Misogynerds doesn't apply to all nerds, just nerds who are misogynistic, of which there are many.

In the nature of stereotypes lies painting entire groups with the same brush - that's why they have a pejorative resonance. By copying a stereotype you consolidate it even more.
