"In this game, BioWare has delivered characters who feel real. They feel real because the writing team, headed up by David Gaider, managed to write them that way. Writing is something BioWare has always done well, but here, the team has excelled, filling an expansive world with stories, ideas, words and people who, together, create an immense fictional entertainment."
I completely agree. With Inquisition Bioware is diligently crafting an immersive, unique, original story that has never been told before in Western entertainment. Observe.
Main plot of the game: the world is suddenly invaded by a bunch of ugly dark monsters and it's up to one guy/gal/tranny hailing from humble origins to become the Chosen One and save the world by killing the biggest baddest monster.
The Elder One: "Haha! After ten thousand years, I'm free! It's time to conquer... Thedas!"
Bioware: "Gaider, the Elder One has escaped. Recruit nine ridiculous SJW stereotypes with attitude. And giant horns!"
Go Go Inquisition! Lalalalala.
Similar quality is invested in the main characters of the story. For instance,
Iron Bull is a high-ranking member of a Catholic-style quasi-religious militant organization led by someone purpoted to be the Chosen One of the Maker and supposed to save Thedas from a demonic invasion. He is also a high-ranking spy for the Qunari leadership, who are against the Maker and seek to invade Thedas and abolish all existing organizations/religion. He does not hide his role as a double agent, and even asks the player if he can send secret Inquisition reports to the Qunari, in exchange for secret Qunari documents. The player does not have the option to execute/expell him for treason against the Inquisition.
Vivienne is a connoisseur of fashion, placing beauty above function. Caring more about her outward appearance than protection, Vivienne is always found in the finest silks and jewels. Her rich wardrobe and appreciation of fashion speaks of her station, being dubbed "the jewel of the high court of Orlais,, where she serves in an advisory capacity to the empress. That was a quote from Bioware. They openly admit that this character places fashion and appearance above being useful.
Dorian is a crossdressing gay with a pencil mustache. That's his character.
Cole is an adorable woobie demonic spirit from the Fade who was a serial killer at the mage tower... wait, what? Apparently, he is the autistic SJW stereotype and does not understand... pretty much anything about people, being equally motivated by murdering and "helping" people. At least you have the option of not letting him join your organization, although I'm pretty sure you can't actually fight and kill him.
