You are forgetting how expensive making AAA games has become.
For 5 million full priced copies to be a loss, 500 senior engineers have to have worked on Anthem for 15 months each getitng paid half a million per year. Come on.
Spiderman has branding and license shit, more marketing, and, honestly, probably has Sony faking a loss to get tax writeoffs. Companies are more likely to declare losses than profits, because losses get them paid by the satate, and profit means they have to pay the state.
You think Cyberpunk licence was how large part of CP2077 436 million $ budget? 1% or less?

Producing big shiny games costs a lot, even in lowcost Poland.

That's the current reality of AAA market. If you want to compete in this sector you have to spend a lot.

Don't know what was Anthem's budget was, don't really follow MMO sector.

That budget includes years of maintenance, DLC, a music album from a famous punk band, and an animated TV show, as well as many real life conventions, with stages, costumes, sets. Again, come on. Where is Veilguard getting this stuff?

I played DAI as a literal bull dyke (large, stocky female Qunari) romancing that one horrid elf mongoloid. I wonder what kind of abomination i can make with this game.

These manlet Qunari with huge forhead, bad hairline and lil porky man-tits, that represent your latest late-40's-still-went-trans-creep, looking like chris chan seem to be a big contender

The reason these trans writers failed to write a decent fantasy story is their imagination is fully occupied with the personal fantasy world they already live in.

For one, Canadian wages instead of Polish ones.

A similar long time of development (8 years, for CDPR it was 2012-2020 also with scrapping earlier versions).

And still my calculation was pretty conservative, less than half of what CDPR spent (200 mln $)

Fantasy written by people who fantasize about being swordsmen will obviously be different to fantasy written by people who fantasize about being women.

The punk band Refused (Samurai in game) are Swedish wages.
The TV show is Japanese wages.
The global marketing team is American wages.
And while Cyberpunk probably was actively developed for 5 or more years, especially including mantenance, was Veilguard? We know the game was cancelled and rebooted at least twice. Most likely it was in so-so development, prototypes and development candidates being pushed, until the last 2-3 years where it went into active development, and got rebooted and renamed a year ago. And it has no music album, no TV show, no DLCs yet, no maintenance yet.

I bet Cyberpunk cost more money to get to market than Veilguard. And I bet it made 10x more money, at least, but this argument is mostly about budgets, not profits.

That's not even the issue. Wanna be a woman? Make a female avatar. Live a female fantasy in a video game. That's fucking it.
No. What they want is a "transgender" representation. They despise themselves, they want to be seen as "valid" and "accepted" as they are, men in wigs and women with removed breasts.

Up until two months ago I'd be with you. But after the rumour Concord cost 400 million and GTA6 1,5 billion I think we have to collectively check our previous assumptions about these things. It seems the times when large core games could be under 100 million (just development) are long, long gone.

This is a "trust me bro" kindda thing but someone within the Czech dev industry told me someone else told him Kingdom Come 2 is very much over 100 million too (the first game is estimated between 20 and 30 million).

Story of Veilguard is story Shakespear would write or any good writer. It just so happens they weren't hired by Bioware in 2nd decade of 21st century. That's it. Now stop being such chuds. Join Team Tranny, kidz

Which kind of writers did Bioware hire for this game? I mean, they have systematically pissed and shat over the lore established in Origins with stupid and questionable retcons (Qu'nari much?).

Let the franchise die in piece.

Lead writer is the guy that forced his real world trans bullshit on Qunari in Inquisition, that was his first contribution to Dragon Age and now we are here. Rest of the writing team are people that came onboard years after Origins, there were only 2 writers left from Origins times, but they didnt have major contributions in this game and Bioware did fire them last year without paying them full severance along with a few other veteran employees. They are now trying to get their money in the court.

Fantasy written by people who fantasize about being swordsmen will obviously be different to fantasy written by people who fantasize about being women.

Sense I get is that the game, and its target audience, are people who fantasize about having friends.

They knew what they were doing bringing in a Sims director. The slow movement from CRPG to lifestyle simulator will be slow, but they'll get there. Just got to get rid of those icky, vestigial CRPG appendages that are still hanging around so people can plunge right into what they really want, which is less game, more magical friendship funtime.
