You're woefully underestimating (or, in a sense, overestimating) the writing staff for these developers, whose ideal is for everyone to speak like a 30-something Californian progressive woman, and who lack the capability of even imitating contemporary real world diversity, much less creating believable characters in a fantasy or science-fiction setting.
