Don't worry, I won't play Veilguard. I also said Dragon Age Origins was ONE of the games that contributed to my hiatus. 2000-2010 was an extremely demoralizing time for not only RPG gamers, but PC gamers who had any taste in general. Not sure if you remember that time, but it didn't inspire much hope in the hobby.

I've played pretty much all of them. Funny that you consider yourself some kind of paragon of taste in the genre, and you're going to defend a game like Origins. It's NWN 2 levels of mediocre. In fact NWN 2 might even be better.

I'm simply calling out your misuse of the word mediocre (or maybe you just don't know what it means?). Having such a hate boner for Bioware clouds the judgement of many people here.

Lol what? BG2, Morrowind, Arcanum, V:tMB, Diablo 2, Deus Ex, ToEE, KotOR 2 are great games. It was a great decade for a RTS genre too.

True. I guess I should have said the later half the decade. Really 2008-2012. Most of these greats you're listing are right at the start of the 2000s, which was the tail end of the "CRPG Renaissance."

I've been saying it from the start. DA:O combat mechanics have some MMO inspirations.

'MMO combat' has been a Kommon Kodex Kriticism of the series from the beginning, to the point that I think it used to be something of a consensus view IIRC. Certainly Elzair's now broken DA:O review mentions it being an issue.

Wouldn't have saved this dumpster fire of a game but some of the concept companions seem way more interesting than what the end product was.

Certainly don't know if the game could ever have been saved, given how fucked the development process was in retrospect.

Would be curious to know when these concepts were drawn up given that the designs seem more thematically appropriate to what I know of the setting ante Veilguard release. The Qunari mage has potential as a cool character. Of the final companions present only Harding seems relatively unchanged whereas all the others (Taash, Davrin and Lucanis) have been supplanted by their current (and in my opinion less interesting) versions. Looks like Taash was intended to be more feminine at one point and Neve started out as an older white lady too. If the timings match up, you'd imagine the personal preferences and politics of certain replacement figures in the dev team had a significant influence in steering things in a more consulting company-friendly direction.

Michael Gamble who is the projecft leader for Mass Effect 5 has made some comments implying they're not going to change the mature Mass Effect tone like it was done with Dragon Age. But of course he can't say anything negative about it.

It's unlikely that Weekes or Busche will get axed because corporate reality is that it's not easy to fire gay/trans people. Also EA is fully on board the DEI train and pushes for it actively.
