The IGN reviews spoils the puffpuff scene without knowing...edit : actually he knows, which makes it worse ? Why would you spoil the puffpuff scene ? You think it was problematic about consent so no one is allowed to enjoy it ?
And whines that women are sexualized sometimes. Is the reviewer a league of virtue member from the 50' ? And I though by their standards you weren't allowed to push your western values on colored people because it was colonialism or something (someone who whine about sexualisation in video games also whine about cultural appropriation and all that stuff, if comes in a package for what I've witnessed).
Anyway the reviews aren't very in depth, even the first, "in depth" one (I didn't read the kotaku one, because their bloggers hate video games so why would you read a review there).

We live in an era where women can be as slutty as they want, literally march down the street in lingerie and demand to be respected, don't you dare judge them for it. But you are also forbidden from enjoying the sluts in any way. That's sexist and gross and harassment and violence against women.

Poor progressive men don't get laid or even get porn, they are in a permanent state of blue balls. No wonder they're so mad at the world.

I would totally buy it on GMG if they could guarantee I would get my key the moment of release. It's a day off for me, so I'm definitely going to be waiting to hit that install button right when it comes out. I don't want to risk having to wait until the end of the day to receive my key.

Make the Codex Great Again! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. I helped put crap in Monomyth
individual turn based instead of party based has me triggered
having the ability to zoom from indoors has me really triggered

will this game be good? I generally rank 8 on the bottom end of a best DQ games list and they seem to be pushing the "it's like 8!" aspect a lot.

any time I've preordered from GMG I've generally gotten the key the day before the release, often earlier if a game offers pre-loading. also if you look at the store page on GMG it says release date is sept 3, but on steam it says sept 4.. so I'd assume keys would be out before the actual steam release anyways

Have my ps4 copy pre-ordered for a long time now at the local retailer, for a 15€ discount.

Kinda bumbed about the music, but spotifiy integration on the ps4 is awesome, so i'll just pop in a playlist to substitute de sound track while i play.

There's nothing retarded about playing vidya while taking a dump. I love the Switch, especially now that you can remove the horribly overpriced software from inventory.

PC managed to get Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter anda Yakuza, three big hits. These are series people used to say would never, ever grace the PC shores. If it takes DRM crapware to get these Japanese games, so be it. If we are lucky enough someone will one day crack this shit and they'll last beyond the PS4 lifetime.

First wave of Denuvo games was cracked soon after 3DM or whatever said it couldn't be done, so I think it's a safe bet. Personally I don't even notice when a game has Denuvo, so...I mean I don't want to support invasive DRM but I also want more Monster Hunter, Yakuza, and Dragon Quest on PC, so....yea.

Anyways, wish I knew about the GMG deal. I preordered DQXI on an impulse after seeing how excited everyone was for it here (Also picked up Yakuza Zero, love those games) and like an idiot I just mashed the buy button without going looking for sales like I normally do. I hope if it does good enough we get Steam ports of previous Dragon Quest games that are...well, decent, unlike Chrono Trigger/FFVI.

The composer saying MIDI music suits Dragon Quest better is a fucking cop out. Why did they bother upgrading the graphics then? They could have kept them the same as PS2 era, as that could be argued as suiting Dragon Quest better too. After all, the PS2 Dragon Quest games were massively popular.

I am still interested in this from an aesthetic view point. Turn-based combat is always a plus for me in JRPGs (the Japanese do turn-based so well), but those visuals - wow. I'm not a big fan of their Dragonball Z-esque take on anime, in terms of the character design, but it is bright, colourful, and the UI is sharp and doesn't look like an afterthought.

I'll read a few more reviews, and hopefully pick it up on Steam for a discount once the orchestral soundtrack has been modded into the game.

On Sugiyama's decision, I don't think it is a cop out at all. There were many limitations in the musical capabilities of the Famicom vs Super Famicom like timbre and simultaneous lines of music; this something Sugiyama really took advantage in a fugue in the final boss of DQ5 as the Famicom had restrictions on having many voices playing at once -- I think it was only three channels for pitch, one for bass and two for higher channels which can still make a three line fugue like the short fuga section in DQ III but not the expansive one in DQ5. Now MIDI has a huge range of possibilities that are pretty much open as far as structure, writing new music in the a similar midi timbre brings home the iterative character of Dragon Quest. He still writes incredible music within this stricture! Without this choice -- of course you can hear similar rhythms and melodies in Sugiyama's music and the regular chimes such as saving and leveling up -- I don't think it would have such an effect toward the iterative as many of the other staple elements that are just as obvious though visual: menus, character design, combat, etc. Most of these iterations are on a surface level which timbre shares on the same level though musically.

The Enix branch of Squeenix seems to operate on a completely different design philosophy.

Square: "This franchise sells millions! I know, let's make the next entry completely the opposite of the previous, and if it doesn't sell then we'll just double-down and make the next one even more different!"

Enix: "This franchise isn't selling as much as we would like it to... what should we do... ah, let's just keep giving its fans what they want and concentrate on making a quality game! Huh!? This is now selling more than before and gaining popularity overseas!? Great, let's not change it and instead keep the same level of quality!"

Preordered from GMGaming the other day. Price was down to half of that on Steam so I didn't manage to contain myself.

Pretty hyped for the game, it looks exactly like the light-hearted, easy-going, cozy, homely, vibrant type of JRPG that I love the most.
