<a href="http://www.3dgamers.com/">3DGamers</a> has the <A href="http://www.3dgamers.com/games/dungeonsiege2/downloads/">demo</a> for <A href="http://www.gaspowered.com/ds2/news.php">Dungeon Siege 2</a>. Now, unless there's a typo on that page, and I hope there is.. The demo is <b>1432MB</b>! Holy crap, that's huge.

Christ, and I thought 650Mb for BGII was bad.

Damn, that's huge.

I'm gonna pass on that one. I may have time, but I don't have time for 1432 MB. Especially not with my download speed. I'll wait for the magazine DVDs.

Ouch. Are there any other demo's this big? The only ones I can remember are of the kind that can be unlocked for the full game.

Downloading the demo anyway.. Want to see if there's any difference from the multiplayer beta.

I've only played 15 minutes or so of the demo, but it seems the game is much better than the first one (I "hated" the first one).
Major difference? The game doesn't play by itself. I mean on the first game everyone attacked & defended pretty much by themselves, I only had to change formations (it was more of a lame RTS than a RPG). On this one it's similar do the Diablo series, click click click  I think you can turn everything automatic on the options menu, but the default is you control everything your character does (and the rest of the party is CPU controled, although you can "make" them use some skills; you can also switch between characters).
There's several skill trees (where there any on the original game?), you can somewhat customize the character (race, looks,...; not really stats), ...

I think fans of hack'n slash games like the Diablo series will enjoy it, unlike the first one.

The demo itself quite big, it has full classes, skills etc. I got mine off a magazine DVD and shit, man, I didn't think it was that big!

I found it to be pretty fun, I'll probably end buying the full game. I've been looking for a fun hack 'n slash diversion lately, and this suits me just fine.

You'll get drunk and download it later anyway - so why not start it already?
Good point.
Chocks away!

Edit:
There's a mirror at Gamespot DLX that I seem to be having better luck with (damn slow at 3dgamers, even the local Australian mirror).
Should be finished in an hour and a half (2mb connection).

To anyone that has actually finished the dload:

Is there a multi-player component in the demo?
(could make a good "waiting for gimps to set up" game in this weekend's LANification you see)

Edit:
Yeah, yeah, okay..."single player" demo

I got it with a magazine DVD, but I already uninstalled it. I dunno, the combat wasn't very enjoyable for me, and since the game is all about combat, oh well.

You click and hold on an enemy to continuously attack it. When it dies, you click and hold on the enemy next to it and repeat. There are different formations/behaviors for your group that you can push a button to activate (free for all, concentrate on same enemy, ect.). There are different skill tress (melee, ranged, combat magic, nature magic) that either give you special abilities or improve your chance to hit, etc. Special abilities can be actived by killing lots of stuff (sorta like adrenaline).

I'm probably gonna reinstall it in an effort to be more specific. Plus I think I sucked at controlling the camera. It seems like it should be fun, I really enjoyed the first Diablo (never played the second one, my computer sucked, then with a new computer I forgot about it), but I dunno.

Thanks. Now, to clarify, are there any special attacks to avoid the boredom of hold the button until the monster is dead routine? Is there any need for such attacks or can you easily kill anything you see? What about skill trees? Are they interesting and deep enough to give you a reason to try different skills combinations and classes?

I'm still dloading the demo, but when I played through the beta there were definitely uses for the special powers. Some of the boss packs could kick your ass in a hurry. Alot of the skills are ripped straight from D2, so there's stuff like +to critical strike %, +dodge%, increased attack speed (like frenzy in D2), piercing attacks, +health/mana regen or +% to hp. I don't remember anything cool like multi-hit or poison attacks though :-( But I don't remeber some of the higher level skills. You have to have certain skills or combination of skills and levels to get certain special powers (you can level up the powers once the right skills get high enough).
Then there's the pets that get their own powers as they level up, and auras too later on (haven't seen any of those yet though).
DS2 also has a resistence system now like D2 had (i.e. fire, lightning, poison resistence, and a few extras that D2 didn't have) and some monsters are weak to certain elements.
Then there's set items with partial and full set bonuses blah blah. Basically, if it was in D2, it'll be in DS2 in one form or another.
Not terribly original, but still a pretty fun game and i'm planning on picking it up (a fuck load better than DS1 though i might add)

Okay, I just played a bit of it.
My opinion so far "meh". It felt as hollow as the original.
But I have only played the early tutorial stuff, so I have no idea if the "proper game" is any better. I'm guessing from some comments around that it does. More later.

By the way, I got a black screen when I first tried to play it. Turns out it didn't like Zonealarm, and it wouldn't let me alt-tab to allow it through either. Hard reboot time!
Cthulhu knows why it required network connectivity in the first place, considering the demo has no MP.
