And AGAIN Sun Jian has gray hair even though he is only 36 at that time.
since i was 20 i've always had THREE grey hairs, just three. 37, heart attack, grey hair everywhere. 44, covid, now i look like a 90 years old. reality hits you hard bro.

Come on, I don't think Sun Jian had a heart attack lol
Guy is 35 in demo, same age as Cao Cao.

He could be Cao Caos father lol. In the 3K TV series he looks normal too.

I assume only those characters who stick around will get different models as they age. Hypotheticals aside, Sun Jian gets wiped off the board too early to get the same treatment.

Yeah fine, I guess Dynasty Warrior Canon is that Sun Jian has either bad genetics or extremely stressed life.
If they age the characters that would be cool, Cao Cao looks too young for 35.

I don't particularly care if the way the characters look is lore accurate, making some of the dozens of chinese dudes named Schlong Wang Dong look distinct from each other is more important.

Got around to trying the demo. It's really, really good. The action only paused a few times at the final battle, and only for a second or two to let you know some massive bullshit was happening. Instead of having to run to some stupid location to make a thing happen, it just wanted me to kill a bunch of grunts or a nearby general. You can bust open gates on your own now with your bodyguards (though it's so slow it seems probably pointless compared to killing the gate guard.) Equipment options seemed decent enough, at least for mid level gear. You get a fair degree of customization over your special attacks and they level up individually as you use them. Difficulty on hard mode was high. Spent 5.5 hours to finish the demo. I could have done it a bit sooner but I was stubborn and wanted to do the whole thing without restarting at a checkpoint, which feels like a bullshit mechanic tbh.

:dealwithit:
After you finish the main mission, Lu Bu shows up, kills basically all your allies, and you have to kill him to finish the demo. This happens AFTER you get a victory screen.

Unlike in previous editions, this time, Lu Bu is apparently some sort of fucking Gundam, because he spends 90% of the fight firing red energy blasts everywhere. When you load the checkpoint before his fight, you're standing within his range and he's already attacking you, so you need to fucking slow time down with the troop command menu while the screen is still loading or you'll get hit and die in the first second. There's a mechanic in the game where an enemy will glow orange, indicating that their next attack can't be blocked and you need to hit them with a particular move to interrupt it. If you see the happen, it's too late, because he does this AFTER either leaping into the air where you can't hit him, or after starting a combo, which you didn't already interrupt with a parry, meaning you can't counter him because now you're standing in the middle of a red energy beam. Pretty sure I spent the last 3 hours of the demo fighting him over and over reloading the final checkpoint.

But I killed the fucker. :smug:

Game comes out in a weak. I watched some Demo gameplay and like what I'm seeing. They seem to be trying out some new things. Who's playing on release day?

Response on the steam forums for the game has been pretty brutal, everyone complaining about lack of weapon types, lack of co-op, lack of characters and various other features.

Are we the nufag decline streamlining enjoyers? I haven't touched a mainline DW game in ages, did they get better while I wasn't looking and this is actually a step back? Or was it just 108 characters with no actual gameplay like I thought? Last one I played of the genre was Warriors Orochi 4 from 2018, and it was much worse than this, more characters didn't mean shit to me.

As far as I understand you only play as this one new main character who has an amnesia. You don't have a massive roster of characters to choose from in this one. If true you'd have to be mad to pay 70 bucks for this.

Most people complaining on STEAM seem to focus on the lack of character creation, which is of course silly and exposes them as tourists to the franchise.

I've never been a part of the fanbase so I can't exactly diagnose what is happening here but this might be a case of the fandom having expectations to play the game regularly until the next one comes out. For people like us just partaking in a single playthrough or two, I'm sure we will be fine whereas someone expecting to play this game for the next 5 years might hate the limited weapons and characters.

The biggest problem for the series has always been the difficulty. I also played Warriors Orochi 4 and thought it was interesting how many characters it had, but I got little enjoyment out of it due to how trivial it became after the first few stages. Same with all the latest DW and SW games, piss easy.
I haven't played the early DWs in some time, and it might have been because it was quite a few years ago, but I kind of remember them being far more challenging than the recent ones.
So if the only challenge in this new installment is just Lu Bu once again and nothing else, I'll be the first one to take a dump on it and tell everyone to get back to Nioh.

Or just replay 3. Oranges looks cool though.

usually in these games helps to follow how battles historically developed, either because they've just been prepared already as the path of minor resistance or because they trigger events most of the times in your favour. that's why you should watch this: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1514753/

if anything most sekrits or stuff like that is about knowing what happens in the battle and doing shit to avoid that

I remember playing as Shu in lot of the games you can save Pang Tong, Guan Yu usually by just doing counterintutitive thing, running to the other side of the map and kill the trigger of their historical deaths

i glanced over the rockpapershitcock review and they were talking about a reimagining, through the eyes of a completely fictional ubiquitous character friendly to every faction and every other character. what in the fucking fuck is this peak retarded shit of retardation?

I don't know how enthusiastic I am about not getting to play Guan Yu and Xiahou Dun and random cute girlies wielding meteor hammers, what is this gay single character shit?

They probably try to reinvent the series besides being a button smashers that can only go so far. DW9 failed hard trying to combine it with Open World (granted this is due more due to their execution being dog shit)

SW5 did very well focusing on Oda and Mitsuhide. Previous experiment was with Sanadas gaiden game

And with how RPG is the big thing, making a self insert in 3K seems like a logical choice

This series needed a win after Dynasty Warriors 9 (which I still believe was salvageable if they made Empires the default game and focused on more emergent gameplay) but this single protagonist shit is lame. Gameplay looks good and I'll buy it one day but it's not a D1P no matter how much I like the franchise.
