So tell me, EDfags, was it worth it to drop so much cool stuff that could be built upon because of "muh MMO!"?

Nope. They could've made a cool game. All the systems are in place for making a cool game. But they keep focusing on "muh MMO" instead of adding sorely needed content diversity for the individual player. Game is a dud.

which has been obvious for many months, although DraQ keeps pretending "itz like that thing he was talking about" when he pretty much only whined and cried about "muh newtonginy! now i can't LARP as a satellite, you shiplords!" (and sometimes about always online drm, but it was rare).

game will never realise its potential because the designers are incompetent twats that don't know how to do anything but (boring) grind. it's not a problem that it's a "muh MMO", the problem is that it's a very badly designed "muh MMO". fuck, even people at circlejerk fanboy central (reddit) are slowly starting to realize it and they're slowly starting to give up/leave (but there's still a tiny voice in my head that keeps telling me "maybe some day it will be good! stick around..." for some reason, and i can't get rid of it, even though i'm fully aware it will never be an actually good game. goddamnit, i don't want to be like j_c :( )

:butthurt:

"Muh newtonginy" is a good thing since it allows you to go as fast as you fucking please instead of derping around at subsonic speed (because you are not allowed to go any faster) and making engine noises with your mouth. It would also allow cluttered orbital environments with multiple stations, satellites and vessels you would be able to actually travel between using normal drives, potentially interesting combat scenarios, etc.

But no, better to waste time and energy figuring out the right way of making instance bubbles and shit and make ships rotate slowly unless they are going at just the right speed.

"Frontier Developments has just announced the release of Elite: Dangerous exclusively on Xbox One in the Game Preview Program. As a token of our appreciation for your continued support with the development of Elite: Dangerous we are delighted to be offering a £5 Gift Code, redeemable only on the frontier store, for customers who have purchased the game and who purchase Elite: Dangerous on Xbox One."

5£ gift if I rebuy the same game twice on xbox.. Fuck you frontier developments, seriously fuck you.

So instead of focusing their resources on expanding the game on PC, they split their time and money to develop it on 2 platforms. Fuck this!

I havent spent a cent on ED and that pissed me off. Too many developers reviving their brand on PC then repeating history and delving back into decline. Makes the Xcom 2 pc exclusivity all the more amazing in this climate.

edit: I dont remember if they mentioned console support in the kickstarter, but timed exclusives were definitely off the table

The funniest thing about DraQs butthurt is that the flight physics are the only thing that work really well in ED right now

So, to those playing this thing (or having played it), considering it is now on Sale for 33,45 Euroshekels, is it worth the Potato?
I'm a longtime X Player...

Depends if you keep your nostalgia goggles well polished. At least the beta (and alpha) were compact and constrained, giving the sense of a living universe. Wait until it's finished... Yes, that was a joke.

So Lavigny hit turmoil and went from #1 to #10 overnight as part of Powerplay.

Its so obvious they didn't bother to test the turmoil mechanics at all.

Eh, at least it shakes things up I guess. But powerplay is such a meh mechanic anyway. It's a shame, really. Back in beta when all the players were concentrated in the same bubble of space the game was pretty interesting. All they had to do was make the bubble slightly bigger and add more mission types and I'd have been happy.

until FDev decides to play nanny again and "fixes" it so Lavigny is once again #2 (with no turmoil, iirc)

Same again - first played Elite on BBC B computer as my brother was going nuts about it - first time I came across a joystick.

Played all other Elites too.

Long time EVE online player - have a bunch of X games which I have never played, Reunion, X Terran Conflict and X Albion Prelude

So I need an space sim expert to advise - renew EVE, try some X's or buy Elite at lowest price I have ever seen approx 27 UK pounds!

I guess you should play X: Terran Conflict, since you have never played it yet, and it is a good game. By the time you get bored of it, maybe Elite will have some more pricedrop and you can buy it.

renew EvE if you enjoy it, and try X:TC and/or X:AP (perhaps with some mods, later on. i hear there are some pretty good overhauls, so check those... i think they were mentioned in an X or X Rebirth thread here on the codex, so check those too [should be somewhere on this or the next page]). avoid ED like the plague for now, it's not worth it. check again in a year (considering the xbawks exclusive "CQC module" comes out for PC only around christmas, i doubt major changes/patches will happen before that)

So it has come to this.

Time was, we were excited about having several viable options on the horizon, other than Freespace 2 mods and the X series—the latter of which, let's face it, is pretty awful in the actual ship-maneuvering and gun-shooting department.

Now it's back to X. Even the latest X game was an unplayable abortion. I think it's time to accept that the genre is officially dead and done with. Seemingly not even the most celebrated old school developers (is it possible to be more iconic than Roberts and Braben?) can resist trying for the MMO bux.

And the sad thing is: even with their faults, the games show that these devs could do amazing games if they were concentrating on the singleplayer experience. But no, they have to fuck it up with the MMO shit.

Well, I certainly wanted multiplayer. It is impossible for any AI to be anywhere near as challenging, varied, and unpredictable as skilled human opponents, and the sense of victory from winning against a person is a lot more palpable.

I never wanted them to verge into full-on MMOification, though.

Anyway, the devs have had another Q&A today:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=167367

Fucking XBox and first-person shooter shit, what a world.

Having a multiplayer component next to the singleplayer is one thing, but as you said, designing it as an MMO was an awful decision.

As for myself, I would have been happy without any multiplayer, just singleplayer, playing vs an AI.

it's not that they're going the MMO route that's the problem... it's that they have no fucking clue how to a) do any decent MMO design, b) do any decent multiplayer design, c) do anything decent, really, other than the shooting and flight model. if the lead designers were actual monkeys, they'd have come up with better systems than the current idiotic clusterfuck of "missions", "factions", trading, combat, mining, and "exploration". i don't think i could come up with a more retardedly designed game in the genre if i tried and got paid for it

So they have announced a paid expansion to be released for the holidays. It will start with planetary landings.

The base game is nowhere near complete much less balanced and polished, yet they are adding more incomplete systems to the game.

Notice I said "start with". The expansion will be released in stages. What you buy at Christmas will be unfinished and slowly get patched, just like the game now.

Its $60.

$45 if you already own the game and preorder.

It includes the base game however, so new players basically get it free. Thanks for your dedication and support.

I bet when it first comes put there will be nothing to actually do on the planets except drive the buggy around.

:negative:I give up.
