Graphically, I guess? Otherwise, with all expansions, it's a great game and the combat is much better (combat being the main point of AoW since always).

Both AoW3 and EL are good imo. EL could've used better combat, but eh it's not the end of the world.

I dont like grouping units as well. In AOW 2 each ork was an individual (Urgzzob?), in the third part thats gone

That's why AoW3 and EL complement each other so well. Although AoW3's strategic layer is nowhere near as bad as EL's combat layer is. It's actually p fun when it comes to the sense of exploration and unlocking additional upgrades, just rather basic and strategic magic is declined heavily compared to previous parts as well.

Not really something that would make a game "super bland", but sure, why not.

I can add overall art direction, narrative & offbeat fairytale writing as well. In both of these areas the third part doesnt even come close to the second. AoW 2 was delightfully cozy, if a game can be called that. AoW 3 is more like a gameplay mechanics game.

Speaking of challenges, like almost every year, we are holding another Community Challenge for the duration of Amplified: From now until Monday, January 24th, 7PM CET, every match you start in Humankind, Endless Legend, or Endless Space 2 will count towards unlocking additional Humankind rewards for all players. The first reward is a set of player emblems inspired by African cultures
Ayo (smacks lips), all you 4X fans hol up.

I was going to play a game or two of Humankind but because of that challenge I will pass until early Summer. Just to be sure.

Hopefully it takes good parts of EL and fixes bad parts. I hope under fixing bad parts they do not remove meaningful TB combat, they should just change it so all the smoothbrains that complained and could not understand it have it easier.

The lesson from EL would be to deliver a solid base yet again while removing the common complaints (like strategic movement speed) and then not completely feck up with inane dlc that are not only not good in themselves, but also need to be turned off to not screw up the main game altogether. Unfortunately, looking at what happened with ES2 dlc and then humankind in its entirety, the hopes here are minimal at best.

I also really liked EL at release, but in hindsight it wasn't that great other than sometimes really distinct factions with flavorful mechanics and some other cool, but undercooked, ideas. It also fully embraced this modern idea of strategy games including entire swathes of mechanics that don't even work, because AI can't interact with them properly, if at all.

Yea, I never bought any of the DLC so base game is only one I played. And having radically different factions was something really cool and different than almost any other 4x.

Endless Legend latest version, all DLCs, and most importantly the community patch (ELCP) is a great experience. The ELCP fixes hundreds if not thousands of detail and bugs.
Highly recommended.

If only EL2 could be in the same league, but alas that seems highly unlikely.

Combat was atrocious in EL.
I've heard this before, but what exactly made it so bad?
From what I remember it was actually pretty decent with initiative and positioning relevant and as far as I remember you could equip your troops with high tier weapons and armor given the right resources.

For me the main flaw of EL was just how boring and lifeless it started to be from the midgame onwards. Especially with the AI not handling all the different mechanics.

I played EL over 5 years ago so I don't remember details. But I remember how combat was BAD. Normally combat is juicy enjoyable. And EL combat was something to avoid.
