"And everything he says about Fallout now has to go through Bethesda's PR first."

Bullshit. Only with LV because Bethesda owns it. However, as suggested, he's not gonna choose to bash someone who is paying him. That's dumb, not to mention disrespectful.

That's the thing I've wondered: who did ever mention some unknown internal PR clerk at all? Pete is the VP of PR and Marketing. He even posts at ESF to resolve at times trivial non-issues and even that big, several parts Oblivion fan interview with a ridiculously high amount of questions went through him first. He's practically the face of Bethesda and I'm pretty sure that whenever anyone mentions Bethesda's PR, including the claims in the referred discussion, it's ultimately a synonym for Pete. It's pretty sensible to assume that everything goes through him.

So, just where does this unknown magical clerk PR thing sprawl from?

More likely he is contractually obligated to keep his damn mouth shut about the game, especially if he can't even say what his position is on a game that the company he co-owns is producing.

They only way anyone at Obsidian can say a peep about the game, in an interview/forum/whatever, is with Bethesda's explicit permission, which also implies Pete Hines' staging.

It's called a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Publishers get developers to sign them, especially if they own the IP and are as controlling with their PR as Bethesda.

sigh

You "quoted" what I said in the Pooper interview thread. Most of the questions did not required Pete's approval as they did not involve Bethesda or Bethesda games in any way, so the PR in question was some internal PR guy who wouldn't have any authority over Chris.

System Shock 2 was almost a role-playing game. Almost. They had the character stuff down, the skill stuff down, but you never really made a choice, in my opinion. The ending was set; your path was set. If, at one point, there was a moment where you could've made one decision that changed the ending, that would've made it a barebones role-playing game, and a good one.
I find this interesting, because, in my opinion, it was something of a weak spot for Torment as well. No matter what you did (the Silent King ending notwithstanding), key plot elements stayed the same. The difference is mostly in (albeit excellent) flavour text or experience/item bonuses you don't really need. Your path and the ending were, well, pretty much set.

It did not make the game less enjoyable, because of the quality of both the writing and the ending, but it's not like there were no missed opportunities. To give just one example: in a game where belief is powerful enough for you to be able to imagine a tree into existence or will yourself out of it, I kind of expected siding with the Dustmen and actually believing in the concept of Final Death would give you the option of achieving it in the end.

No it isn't, companies don't work like that. Specially when it's about an upcoming AAA title.

Codex should send him a copy with Drog's patch after masturbating furiously on it. I don't know if the old boxes can be found anywhere, though.

Amazon has it for 14 bucks.

Pete keeps their balls in a mighty tight vice grip.

Why would he listen to some PR guy? Because the PR guy took some PR course? Because after at least a decade of working in the industry Chris doesn't know how to handle interviews and write acceptable answers? Seriously.

Avellone is a co-founder. Do you not understand what this word means? If there is a guy in Obsidian who doesn't need to ask for anyone's permission, that would be MCA.

Do you have any idea how the real world works? I mean, really?

Do it and I'll make sure he gets it.
I had one sent directly to you. If SuicideBunny donates another, you can PM this one to Drog, I think he mentioned he wanted to check whether the GOG version works with his patch.
