Fallout 2 - It's meant to be good?

Well i guess i dont have any more bad things to say about Fallout 2(for now). So im gonna post some more news from the wasteland.

BAD NEWS FROM THE WASTELAND

It seems im in some real pretty shit now. I got vilified in Vault City, this time for real. I went there to fix my arm but the doctor didnt wanna fix my arm(even though before he did). Then, some things happened and unfortunately i had to kill someone. So i got vilified.

I decided to go with it, and it was pretty fun sneaking about and getting jumped at on the mean streets of Vault City... The music was mentioned before and i have to agree its pretty badass. Here, ill post it again just because its so cool

very cyberpunky

And heres a screen to go with the music

some street thugs trying to ambush me

I spent a couple of days there because my healing rate was low due to radiation. Then i got a great idea to basically "herd" a bunch of citizens to the gate so as to use them as a bullet shield and cover my escape...

fallout2_2015_05_25_05_28_20_17.png

("please stop herding me")

fallout2_2015_05_25_05_32_08_40.png

my little flock

But it didnt work out that great. After they pass the gate they scatter about left and right... Useless as a shield. Too bad.
Instead i used that "stand near a guard so that he hits me instead of shoots me" thing. One of the citizens got killed though so it wasnt all wasted effort.:)

Finally, i broke out but somewhere in the process i broke my leg too... It took me awhile to realize why i coudnt run anymore. So now i have a fucked up arm and a fucked up leg. This makes me very
tumblr_n6regdeQgW1qjxgmho10_1280.jpg

mad:mad:

Now im limping around all the time and ina fight i cant make two steps before loosing all my APs. In truth i need only one good arm, being a knife thrower (too bad for the combat shotgun though, it was handy. and i just found some ammo for it). But the leg is a major problem.

Another problem is that theres no other doctor that i know of. Theres one in Broken Hills but like i said earlier everyone is still mad at me there, even though im neutral.

So now i have a couple of options:

Im thinking about going to San Francisco, maybe theres a doctor there, since its a big city. But its a looong long way to go and im not in a condition to travel that far because if i get ambushed i cant run away. Maybe...

Or maybe i could do some menial tasks again to get leveled up so i could put all points in doctor skill and fix the damn leg myself. I have it at 7% now. I dont know, it seems like an awful waste of points. Hmmm

Im also running low on money.
(One thing i like about Fallout 2 is that money is really hard to come by, just like in Arcanum. The most money i had in the game was 982 bucks. Then i had this idea to double it in a casino, and lost everything.)
The problem is, i need money for jet since im running low on jet too. I sure could use some jet or buffot, especially now.

Also im low on knives, i had to leave a bunch in Vault City. Now i have just 2 left. :gulp:

So things are not looking good for my hero. I hope this is not one of those Fallout 2 game over moments...

Yes its pretty fun! I guess Fallout 2 really is good. But, i still prefer Arcanum.:)
The radiation was because of the Toxic Waste Dump. I also drank from that well in Vault City... I have it for some time now.

I'm loving these updates. The "Misunderstood Mass Murderer" is definitely a more nuanced approach than your typical "evil" play through. Diablo pulls it off quite well.

There are doctors in some towns but here is the thing i just discovered. Only SOME of them can heal crippled limbs. I just dragged my limping ass to Redding to see Dr Painless Johnson(i remembered him) and that butcher cant heal shit! He only removes the radiation.

But for limbs nothing happens. And yes, im aware of that thing where you have to be full health to be healed but its not that... I drag myself to mine entrance, take of my armor and let the rats bite me a bit. Then i drag myself back to Dr Johnson and pay him 50 bucks for NOTHING.

Three times i did that and nothing. I even sold my katana... This is really horrible. But the worst is the constant dragging. It kinda well, drags the game.
No matter, i accept the consequences of my deeds and march on. Or limp on in this case. But i really hope like Gnidrologist said, something will happen soon.

About NRK? Hmm i dont know what that is... Dangerous you say? Hmmm i will ask around.

Hmmm North California Republic, it seems i havent met them yet.

In any case i think self-doctoring will have to be. San Francisco is just too far... Too much reloading. Currently i need some 2000 XP for level 7. Then ill train it. I just need to find some decent fetch quests.

Lukaszek, sadly the knives are gone now. and yakuza knife hunting is out of the question... Luckily, in a random encounter i stumbled on some giant plants that shoot spikes.
fallout2_2015_05_25_13_59_45_82.png

So what i would do here is walk around a bit and let them shoot at me. Then i would enter that cave and exit it, but in stealth mode.
fallout2_2015_05_25_14_06_08_13.png

Now the plants wont see me, leaving a shitload of spikes for me to pick up. Nice!

Then i explored the cave and found a bunch of Deathclaws, with a whooping 93% chance to hit them in the eyes with a spike.
fallout2_2015_05_25_14_19_40_28.png

You cant see it in the screen but these are all blind Deathclaws now... They can see me only from really up close, and then they just run away. I feel kinda bad for doing that. But if i wasnt crippled i could earn some serious XP there...

So lukaszek - maybe not a ghoul, but dropping from knives to spikes, im regressing to something i guess...

Not that im complaining though. Its pretty cool when a game once in a while throws you a bone like that, or in this case a spike.

EDIT

OK i realized now that i could have just picked up the spikes without entering/exiting the cave, since they do next to no damage... That was pretty dumb.
Nevertheless! I felt smarter that way.

Hmmm... Maybe the regression is advancing faster than i anticipated.

I think Hakunin gives you healing powder if you bring him weeds? It's better than nothing though.

Because if you burn Arroyo to the ground, the Enclave can't walk in later on and do it themselves and you'll have created a pime taradox.

warning: spoilers on the above sentence.

blinding deathclaws with spikes

I get it now. A sociopathic murderer that has uncanny throwing skills even with crippled limbs and improvised weapons...he's roleplaying as Bullseye!

Guys

I managed to fix the leg myself by clicking on the doctor skill literally for the first time. That was really lame and it felt like a cheat. I have 7% doctor and i manage to fix everything? Dammit Fallout 2, ima knife thrower not a doctor!

They really shouldve put some penalty there... Maybe a small chance to fix it and also a chance to fuck it up even more by lack of skill, or something. But not this.

So, im just gonna pretend it never happened. Im either gonna find some proffessional help, or im gonna learn how to do it and fix it myself. Thats the proper roleplaying way.:salute:

As for Hakunin, Arroyo is pretty far now. But i tried an older save and nope he wouldnt heal me at all, limbs or otherwise. Maybe because im not idolized there anymore, or maybe its karma(i had it really low back then)
In any case he will have to wait, because a DECISION has been made...

Ill post about it later.

Keep us posted. I never visit ''Let's play'' threads, because i don't care about gazzilion of pics with boring commentary on top, but your experience and how you retell it, is awesome. :D

I'm going to believe Diablo's character chopped his own leg off and replaced it with a machinegun. Like the girl from planet terror.

Well, here it is. After careful deliberation i made up a plan.

THE PLAN

The plan is to visit the Umbra Tribe (again) and do some more of their famous menial tasks in order to get 2000 XP points and become a doctor. I wrote before what i feel about this village on page 11

But on the other hand the Umbro Village sucks.

and yes, this is not how i initially planed to go back there, since i sworn revenge on them. But, i guess cripples cant be choosers.

(The decision was influenced in part by a severe lack of noncombat quests and in part by a distant memory of Krom and me, working undercover on a gecko pelts deal gone bad... :dreamy music:
fallout2_2015_05_27_07_29_33_85.png

That was a pretty OK quest, me running away from the badguys and Krom hitting them from behind with his huge spear.

scr00048.png

Krom is an OK guy actually...) /memory over

So lets see what degrading things they want me to do now. And since Krom promised me some degradation last time we met, i should check him first.

fallout2_2015_05_27_06_58_38_29.png

Two of their best warriors missing in a dangerous cave? Well that sure sounds like a job for a cripple. Lets go!

On my way to the cave i met this woman in need of some wood. Hmmm:cool:
fallout2_2015_05_26_14_11_02_73.png

Unfortunatelly she meant firewood. Apparently she cant get some herself because her coffee might boil over. So its up to the cripple to get them! Truly, nothing is too low for these people.

But first, off to the cave.

A CAVE-IN, IN A CAVE

I found the missing hunters under some rocks and being chewed by a Gecko. Here i had two options:
fallout2_2015_05_26_14_12_38_06.png

The problem is that if (because of my leg) i chose to wait and let them get eaten, Krom who favors battle will not be pleased, and ill get less XP.
So i decide to jump in, or limp in.

But for some reason, i cant spike this gecko in the eyes.:? I have just 50% chance to hit. Dont know why... Maybe Deathclaws have big bulging eyes and geckoes small tiny ones. I cant believe the game takes that into account... If it does thats pretty:incline:
So, unsatisfied with these odds i had to leave my spikes behind and limp away while being chased by the Gecko, dreading what Krom will say to me.

fallout2_2015_05_26_14_15_29_50.png

Well... OK! I guess ill deal with it later. Now, off to get some woods for mom.

IN THE WOODS, LOOKING FOR WOODS

So far these Umbra tribulations arent that bad... In a way, its actually a nice relaxing change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Slowly dragging about, enjoying the nature and just thinking about things. Ah

fallout2_2015_05_27_10_54_35_62.png

Really all this wood around got me thinking. In the game you can get crippled in all the limbs and the eyes but not in the groin... Whats up with that. I wondered how would that work, and why they left it out. Hmm, another minus for Fallout 2.:decline:

FINISHING UP

Time to finish this field trip and collect the XP.

First, i gave the wood to the woman while being all polite for a miserly 200 XPs... 1800 to go. On the other hand
if thats what you get for bringing some wood, who knows how much you get for rescuing their best warriors from a Gecko! Lets find out.

Thinking about how to defeat the Gecko i came to the idea of entering the cave in stealth mode, because he chased me right to the exit map. And what do you know he doesnt see me. Neat! I proceed down the cave while collecting my precious spikes.
fallout2_2015_05_27_13_41_46_03.png

It turns out the sole surviving warrior has a crippled leg, like me.
fallout2_2015_05_26_14_19_45_39.png

I know your pain brother... A brother in arms legs!

I listen to his(long) story after which we get teleported to the shaman where i get... 600xp and of course their gratitude which im sure will come in handy. Great... Im 1200 points short.:argh:

But then, something scary happened.

The village shaman asked me for a strange favor, to bring him exactly 3 broc flowers and 5 xander roots... And when i asked him why exactly that amount he started channeling Josh Sawyer from beyond!
fallout2_2015_05_26_14_22_29_38.png

:balance:

Creeepy!

Grudgingly, i accept the quest to relive this man from his balance mania in return for those remaining XPs and i set out home... to Aroyyo!
