Your gifs never animate for me. I don't know quite why....
Might be the website they come from. I should probably add them to my photobucket or something from now on.

plus dialogue stat checks (FO1 didn't have that)

Uhhh...no. Fallout 1 had plenty of dialogue stat checks. What game did you play?
ehh that was a long time ago though (by stat checks I've meant not the usual speech-skill checks but checks of main stats like strength, endurance etc - I don't quite remember if FO1 had these)

And I'm pretty sure Jedi Learner was just saying that Fallout died immediately after Fallout 2, and possibly not damning Fallout 2.
Well we still had Van Buren - which was like hope.

The greatest thing Bethesda could do is give Van Bured to the community, maybe that way a team of brave modders would finish it. The game was already 90% finished anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I'd like to know more precisely in what stage of development it was at the time of cancellation.

Of course, this is just a personal dream. It will never happen.

Well....you could be technically right. Fallout 1 didn't have any stat checks like Fallout 2's Vault City citizenship test, arm-wrestling, or porn-tryouts, but it had loads of dialogue nodes that were opened up by stats. Charisma and intelligence with the most by far, perception and strength each having a few, luck having one I think, agility might have had one, and endurance had none to my knowledge.

Well we still had Van Buren - which was like hope.

I was using my super cynical 20/20 hindsight, and Herve kinda killed that hope. Maybe VD or Brother None can use their magical influence to get Obsidian devs who worked on Van Buren (namely Sawyer) to give the community any assets. If it wouldn't put them at legal odds with Bethesda of course.[/i]

Giving assets would make nothing. They already gave fallout 2 map editor. I still don't see any decent mods.

The design docs were 90% finished, if anything ever was. The actual game and engine were just lulz in a compiled state. Also, Van Buren was off track on alot of design elemenets, the skill system was being cut down in size, alot of needless bullshit was added for the "cool" factor; they too probably would do the whole Fallout 3 number, fps and all, if they could get away with it.

Restoration Project is not a decent mod?

I think most useful stuff has been leaked. There might be some design docs of interest but that's it. J.E. Sawyer pointed out on NMA that the Jefferson engine was an unhandleable mess, making the prospects of the modding community finishing the game if Interplay released the source code (dubitable) very slim. Sawyer just advised us to mod Fallout 1/2 instead, plus FIFE.

Speaking of which, the contract between Interplay and Bethesda specifies that Bethesda has the exclusive right to releasing new offline Fallout materials. That means Interplay could not release anything more from Van Buren, or release the Fallout source-code if they wanted to. All they can do is keep making new distribution deals for the previous games, and chip away at FOOL.

Whatever ideas you have for Fallout, Bethesda is there, blocking it.

I have to agree. Apart from killap's restoration mod (and some other ones which tweak weapons and stuff), I can't really say I noticed any worthwhile mods which could count as unofficial sequels or at least bring in a decent story arc. I mean, there are some cool-looking ones in development, but how many have been actually released? I hope I'm wrong and there's a great Fallout mod out there eluding me.
