War. War never changes, they say. But the Fallout, for better or for worse, has indeed changed and in the process, intrinsically lost what it once was. Fallout 4 straddles an interesting line, choosing to buck its deeper RPG elements in favor of a more accessible and incredibly polished shooter experience. Thankfully, this move to a more homogenous experience hasn’t come at the expense of one of the franchises greatest elements, the atmosphere and the characters. What truly sets Fallout 4 apart is to be found in its subtle and uplifting moments of beauty and humanity. To experience compassion, empathy and a connection to a series of 1’s and 0’s, if not only for a fleeting moment, is a grand task to achieve and something this game has achieved effortlessly. War. War does change. But Fallout 4 shows humanity’s best qualities will remain steadfast and unshaken, regardless.

Fallout fanboys have no idea what they are talking about. I wish that was news.
I just googled this for you: Locational Damage (Fallout 3 mod)

So, first point is "FO3 has locational damage", and second point is "Locational damage is autistic anyway".
Ah, another retarded newfag trying hard to be edgy.
:updatedmytxt:

So you don't even read what you fucking link. That mod only changes values of the existing mechanic. Also, looks like you haven't played FO3, why are you pretending that you know what you're talking about then?

And your idea for locational damage is autistic, and wouldn't work at all. That doesn't mean that locational damage is a bad idea. You newfag turds should take the reading comprehension perk before posting anything on the Codex.

Despite that, I can’t shake the feeling I’m really playing Fallout 3 season two. I guess it’s time to acknowledge the elephant in the room: CD Projekt Red’s masterful The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt this spring completely reset my expectation levels for storytelling, voice acting, pacing and congruous world design.

There’s nothing Fallout 4 does worse than Fallout 3, that much you can depend on.

This review puts up nicely :
"This isn't the step forward I expected, though. Here we are, the first Bethesda game on a new hardware generation, and I can't help feeling like we've regressed like Fallout 4 really is Oblivion- with-guns. A decade later, it certainly makes many of the same mistakes"

After reading his review, I honestly felt like the new settlements and crafting options are a waste of a feature. It seems pointless to me.
Nothing sounds interesting, let alone innovative.
What the fuck were they wasting their 7 years on?
Just to give away an expansion pack with padded content to bore the players exploring the map hours on end.
What a waste. Like really a wasteland.

or they took so many arrows to the knee from the resoundingly popular but much-lampooned Skyrim

Oh?

Those things, those ancient Bethesda bugbears, have improved immeasurably. Not completely, but speaking as someone who repeatedly tried to kill Brother Joffrey in Oblivion so I didn’t have to hear his wretched voice again, tried to mute all Fallout 3’s voices to spare myself from lifeless shopkeepers’ dull ‘a traveller, eh?’ utterances and made arrow/knee Skyrim references only as a demonstration of contempt, I simply haven’t seen red in that way during Fallout 4.

That time already, huh? 'Those problems previous games had, but this one manages to avoid'. Except it's Bethesda, so he couldn't say that with a straight face without throwing partially into the sentence.

Definitely sounds like Fallout 1.

Opencritic is at 89, Metascore is 91(X1), 90(PS4), 89(PC).
It'll be lower than FO3, at least.

Two important quotes from reviews:

PC World:

For a long time, nobody made games like Bethesda. There is a leniency afforded to you, I think, when you’re the only one doing A Thing and it’s A Thing people like. You overlook the bugs. You overlook the bad AI. You overlook the poor main story.

But now...It’s not that Fallout 4 is a bad game, or even a bad Bethesda game. It’s that other studios started doing Bethesda’s whole open-world thing. Sometimes doing it better.

Ars Technica:

We're now in an age where open-world games can forgo plot in favor of such cool stuff as fully fledged crafting systems (Minecraft) or online co-op survival (DayZ, ARK Survival Evolved), or they can take the best stuff of Fallout and Skyrim's pedigree and slap even better plot and acting into it (Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Dragon Age: Inquisition). Fallout 4 peaks at neither of these extremes.

Most of what I saw about FO 4 is putting me off, shitty textures, crappy dialogue, idiotic characters, legions of bugs, etc but this was quite interesting:

At around 56:51 that damn robot adressed that players character by "Miss Ziggy" instead of a generic "you/etc". Wonder if that happens more often throughout the game. It's something I sorely miss in fully voiced games that other characters are able to adress you by your real name actually.

Let's play the negative review excuse game! Our first contestant, via a comment on the Destructoid review, is Mathew Bryant!

"It sounds more like the reviewer just isn't a big fan of what Bethesda did with the series than anything honestly. That doesn't mean everyone will like Fallout, but I can't imagine for a second that a large portion of the populace will consider this game a 75 out of 100. Reviewers have to mix personal enjoyment with honest critique from a neutral standpoint. I have a feel this is more of the former than the latter. So be it though. I haven't played the game yet, so it's possible I won't like it as much as the previous ones. I really doubt it though. I guess the reviewer just isn't a huge fan of exploration on this scale. Either that or the bugs bother him a lot more than they bother me. Either way, to each their own."

If you are the kind that can shut the brain off to not be offended by complete stupidity each 10 mins, Fallout 4 won't be any worse than other popamole and you may have fun playing murder hobo with lasers or play post apocalyptic lego but when I see Fallout getting the Bethesda treatment it is like someone stuck a knife on my 15 years old me when I played the originals for the first time, I imagined at that time how a Fallout 3 or 4 would be with the technology, instead we got this stupid shit. The popamole gameplay isn't a problem, if I had 100 good cRPGs I wouldn't give this shit the time of the day but seeing Bethesda with their pathetic launch party, those guys fucked gamming in the ass, they with the other publishers, I won't give them one cent.

Dude the only good thing that Betheseda does and does it better than any other game's publisher is markting. Pete Hines (or the guys he works with), really are experts in that field. That's biggest reasson their games are having so much sucess since Obliviturd. And that's also why, even though their games since 2006 completly suck in every way, are seen by most people as an holy grail of RPG's (and that's pisses off the most).

Gotta say, the combat is allright. All enemies have a different gimmick to them, Molerats swarm you in packs, two attack from front, other will dig into ground to reappear behind you, ghouls are very fast, deal radiation damage and dont dodge attacks while not caring for missing limbs. Mutants have suicide bombers that are faster than others chasing you with a ticking bomb allahu ackbaring you. Their dogs seem to have high perception making sneaking more harder. Depending on rank, human enemies will flank and take cover (melee humans are still retarded though). If you sit in cover they throw grenades. Radscorpions absolutely tear you apart.

That's not bad, but the rest of game's enemies will most probably be bland and even those enemies you mentioned probably have "some" AI problems. But that's something alright.

The game is also a lot harder than FO3. In fo3 you could kill mutants easily with level 1, you can forget that in 4. The mutants you saw on the stream were just the standard mooks with crappy damage reduction and weaponry. We've died pretty often so far, playing on hard

FO3 even in hard was not hard. And in Betheseda games on Hard = 200% incresea of enemies life and double damage.

There are some mild C&C in dialogues, pretty big amount of npc have a 'like-o-meter' that changes depending on your actions and dialogue choices. 'Codsworth likes this' for example. Yeah.

Knowing Betheseda those C&C must be really binary and generic with little differences in the outcome, and the ones that may be good (if there are any), are taken from other games. Well but that's something I guess.

The amount of customization to your gear you can do is absolutely insane, especially with the layered armor system.

Big deal. it's like to be this deep.

Followers have unique quests that can unlock stuff for them like in new vegas.

Well, that's one more thing they didn't take from New Vegas. :smug:

The perk and 'skill' system still is absolute shit though.

SUPRISE! SUPRISE!

Betheseda should stop making RPG's, and make action games. If the "RPG" elements they have are really light but still fucking broken as shit and generally shit, why do they keep making it?

It's still getting high scores, but those reviews will be enough to ensure it doesn't surpass Fallout 3. Or more importantly for the GOTY awards(?), Witcher 3.

Hahaha. Playstation owners are gearing up for yet another botched Bethesda effort on their consoles, and for once the Xbox owners can say 'buddy, let me tell you about problems'.

And a 970 can't keep 60 fps on Ultra at what I'm guessing is 1080p? What did they do in the last couple months of production?

It had already been announced some time ago that there were 1000 or so names recorded and that characters would call them by name. (of course, it could have been Todd being Todd, but...)

10/10 Can have more wives than a mormon hopped up on spanish fly.

Just like Bethesda. They saw the companion system in New Vegas but didn't understand it. So now all you have to do is wander around making your companions happy by following their alignment, rather than them having an interesting backstory that unfolds as you travel with them. Imitating without understanding might as well be Bethesda's mission statement at this point.

Hmmm, marketing and status, I guess. It's the same Infinitron said about "strategy RPGs." RPG is a label that has a certain flavour, status, and importance; unlike FPS or MMORPG (and something like that is what F4 is,) it has inherent value, so to speak. So trying to define your product as such may be important. What is outrageous is that trend to classify the new fallouts as one of the standards for RPGs (without any adjective,) and classic fallouts as a subset (the adjectives strategical or tactical.) I don't know if it's intentional, but if it is, it's an ingenious and mustache-twirling marketing strategy.
