Wow. Fallout 76's "beta" doesn't seem to be a beta but just a demo since no one can even try it until October, a month before launch. Who knows when the PS4 and PC people get in on the beta too. This is just silly.
server stress-test.

Awww man, why does it start so early already, I didn't aquire popcorn yet.

What did people expect? An early beta for pre-ordering, so they can play it and then cancel the pre-order? :hahano:
Stuff like that happened before and companies learned from it. Big surprise.
People are just getting an early access phase, with most likely not even a 100% content, and of course a reset after that phase, so all the players achieved was for nuzzink.

At least Bethesda is honest as to who they are mainly developing for: XBawx players are their preferred customers, they get their access first (I assume analysis has shown they are falling for the pre-order bait the most), Piss4 players later and the PC peasants can pick up the scraps in the end. If they are registered at BethNet no less.

For extra lulz it is only valid for "participating retailers". If there is a list of those, I can't find it. The only ones named are the offishul XBawx/PS4 stores and Beth himself. Gonna laugh my ass off if pre-ordering via Steam is NOT valid for the beta.

Bethesda marketing is a gift that keeps on giving. :obviously:

Oh great Bethesduh found a system more moronic than VATS
Can't beat V.A.N.S.: Press Q so a random line is drawn towards the dot on your compass. Because redding a map is the hard.

We’re blown away by the response to the B.E.T.A. Still sorting out the details but we’ll start letting you break-it in October. First on XB1, then PS4 and PC.

Yeah this is going to be a train wreck and I have no idea how Todd Howard can namedrop Raph Koster in an interview without listening to his most valuable lesson that your players are not going to play your game the way you think.

Wasn't there actual gameplay footage already revealed in E3? IIRC we can be a band member and give thumbs up besides running around shooting stuff. Who needs cover mechanics when you have band mechanics?

Fallout 76 joins the AAA exodus from Steam: https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-wont-launch-on-steam/

Fallout 76 won't launch on Steam
"...both the B.E.T.A. and the launch, will be available only via Bethesda.net, not on Steam," a Bethesda rep said in an email.

The Fallout 76 beta FAQ states, among other things, that "the B.E.T.A. [that's a Fallout-style acronym for Break it Early Test Application] and the game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and on PC (via Bethesda.net only)." The Fallout 76 purchase page also bears only a generic "PC game" logo, with no mention of Steam. And today, Bethesda confirmed that neither the beta nor the full game will be released on the platform.

"The PC version of Fallout 76, for both the B.E.T.A. and the launch, will be available only via Bethesda.net, not on Steam," a Bethesda rep said in an email.

That comes as a real surprise: Bethesda would obviously like to push more widespread adoption of its own launcher, but foregoing the biggest, most popular PC digital distribution platform on the planet is a ballsy move. That's not to say it won't happen eventually, but it may be quite a wait if it happens at all—Fallout Shelter was released on Bethesda.net in July 2016, but didn't make it to Steam until March 2017.

Another interesting note in the beta FAQ is that if all goes according to plan the beta version will actually be the full game, and any progress you make in it will carry over into the release version.

"Our current plan for the B.E.T.A. is it will be the full game and all your progress is saved for launch," it states. The beta will also not be under NDA, although that was previously known—but it takes on an increased significance if the beta build is actually the full game.

The Fallout 76 beta test is set to begin sometime in October. Everyone who preorders the game will be invited to take part.

bethesda launcher exclusive?

good luck w/ that pete
Yea, I mean I guess since its online only they want to control it better or something, but you would think something thats on presumably precarious ground with its fanbase would not be the game to add more impediments to acquiring it. They should be launching Elder Scrolls 6 on this platform as its "killer app" because they KNOW that will draw people. But I mean Fallout is their red headed stepchild and this is a spinoff nothing game for them so I guess its basically just testing the platform for them before they put the real games on it in their eyes.

Then again maybe they just think the Fallout brand is strong enough to plow through any obstacle right now.
