Always hated how the death animation goes from left to right but Lo Wang always first striked the opposite way.

The FN FAL or the XL70E3?

Mine's the flaregun from Blood. Most weapons in that game are worth mentioning.

Gunporn from ArmA2 satisfies my needs for guns well:

M4A3 rifle with Aimpoint or ACOG plus AN/PEQ-2 IR laser
M16A4 rifle with ACOG plus AN/PEQ-2 IR laser
Mk16 Mk4CQ/T (has optics with adjustable magnification)
Mk48 machinegun with Aimpoint plus AN/PEQ-2 IR laser
M110 sniper rifle with night vision or thermal optics
SVD Dragunov (cool rifle because it has both optics and close quarter combat ironsights)

UT99:
Flak cannon
Machinegun
Rocket launcher

Doom:
Double-barreled shotgun
Plasma rifle

Fallout:
That automatic rifle with optics whatsitzname

That's a lot of compensation in that list. :smug:

BFG was pretty useful once you start running into multiple Cyberdemons and Spider Masterminds towards the end of Doom 2. The weapon was completely unnecessary in Doom 1 though.

Imo it's nice to have it when you are low on health, don't have much space for maneuvering, and suddenly run into caco-deamons or a baron of hell, especially in Thy Flesh Consumed, where you are low on health pretty often.

To me, the rocket launcher in Doom seems mostly pointless (slow and cumbersome, occasionally suicidial), I almost never use it (except for bosses).

Somewhat surprised to see several people mention weapons from Unreal, although it's my favorite shooter, the weapons always seemed kind of clunky and weird to me.

.223 Pistol from Fallout, especially when it caused the exploding ribcage critical. Very satisfying and mighty loud.

My cheat-like enchanted sword in Morrowind:
Weakness to fire 100pts
Soultrap on strike 1 sec
Fire damage - whatever could fit

Kar98 in Call of Duty 2 (and most other WW2 shooters).

I quickly set a self-imposed challenge of never using it in both games. Couldn't follow up with that in the Team TNT games, but in the id ones you don't need it at all and it's much more fun without it. It's essentially a cheat button.

Love it (especially without a BFG) and playing rocket duel with the Cyberdemon in E2M8 is one of the most fun memories I have of the game.

Tell that to E3M6.

Also, surprised Wraithverge from Hexen hasn't been mentioned yet. Come on, it's a gun that shoots fucking ghosts.

First things to come to my mind:

Riot Shotgun in Shadow Warrior
The sword in Shadow Warrior

Sawed-off shotgun in Blood
Flare gun in Blood
Tesla cannon in Blood
Fire spray in Blood

The kick in DN3D

Combine rifle in HL2

The shrink ray in DM3D was fun in multi-player.

Also the Doom/Doom2/Quake shotgun was best in multi-player. There was nothing like coming around a corner and just wasting someone with one shot to the back of their head.

Fucking HOMING ghosts! Only reason I didn't pick it is that it's just too powerful. They had to severely nerf it in deathmatch mode to keep the game remotely fair.

Derp, meant E3M6. Shoulda just said Mt. Erebus.
I still rage when I think that Doom, the first one, more than 15 years ago, set an example for large open spaces and nonlinear levels in FPS... and instead we get endless clones of corridor shooters. Fuck you Half-Life :rpgcodex:
