So I googled FF7 mods and found that everyone rave's about some graphical driver thing - "AALI’S CUSTOM GRAPHICS DRIVER" - but all the links I could find were dead. Does anyone have that thing?

This site practicaly have all

FF8 has some of the worst characters and rpg mechanics I've ever seen. The draw/junction system functionally destroys any of the fun and strategic elements that should be present in a magic system. Only FF13 and 14 manage to surpass the asshatery of that entry. FF8 did have a few things going for it like graphics, music, and Gilgamesh...But that's about it. It doesn't matter that the game was huge and had many complexities since all of those complexities stunk to high heaven.

Does anyone really want to play FF VII today? I thought all the people who liked it when they were fourteen are now old enough to realize the game is not that good, while 14-year-olds in 2012 won't even look at it because of crappy graphics.

I'm enjoying playing this game now for the first time. Nothing special - awful inventory (materia is a mess), boring fights (except some boss fights) and incredible stupid plot. I've heard FF7 has great story, but no... Little prick asking about his sadness and worthless planet - who cares? Still - cobining materia is kind of fun. IMO that's all fun in FF7.

Any retardation of FF7 plot you could point out is nothing compared to FF8. Maybe except crossdressing.
The plot seems to be done on acid, all characters reach a truly epic levels of :retarded:, both in look and writing. The things happening in the first 1/4, ah fuck, the entire first half of the game, were so absurd, I could barely endure this hurrderp oozing from my monitor.

FF8 junction system was a total crap. Hey player, wanna do some magic? Then go around the fucking world for hours and steal it from monsters, you bedouin, you slave.
In FF8, the player is fucked twice as much as in any other typical JRPG: there's not only the usual retarded grinding in random encounters, but also a set of spells player is forced to replenish, or even worse: to look for them.
I don't really like the game but this is not actually true, because of the diablo (about 1/6 of the game in) no-enc ability + the hidden spots around the world.

Granted, that turns it into a shitty memory game. But you don't really have to junction anything, because the enemies are level scaled. It might even be a bit better to be constantly underlevelled (say level 20 at the end) % unscaled spells (a few).
I don't know what the ability is about, but yeah, forgot about drain points. Not like it's a big difference.

I found keeping the characters underlevelled very unefficient. Below certain treshold, every fight with boss or summon was almost entirely dependent on luck, timing, etc. It's like the enemies were scaled not to a random level, but to some level ranges, and if you end up at the bottom of current range, things are getting bad... unless you start grinding.

However, the level scaling in FF8 was quite surprising feature and I thought it could actually work in JRPGs. Beacuse you know, enjoying the third- rated interactive animu without the need of constant grinding using the irritating NES combat system. I wonder how many other JRPGs used similar thing and how many did it right.

The enc-none is one of the second stage ability of a summon that removes all random encounters.

Though actual crazy people (that i was) would actually get into them to convert the enemies into hilariously powerful cards or item (that gave no xp, but leveled the GF) that then could be used to make basically everything you wanted from another GF ability, allowing you to break the game at level 10 forevermore (exception attacks that are not levelscaled of course).
It was flexible, i give it that. And i liked the way the card mini-game integrated with the system and world (it was hard to get a full deck).

I've seen Spoony's reviev and I'm not going to touch FF8. And Zell IS NOT funny at all.

It's amazing how much Square declined between six and seven. Six has a classic, entirely plausible if fairly cliché plot, whereas seven has a completely HERP-A-DERP plot that has everything and the kitchen sink thrown into it.

That's the most objective and accurate review of FF8 I've ever seen. Srsly, the game reaches a critical mass of WTF per minute.

I'd say the same, but with numbers seven and eight

Oh yes, if only that was the extent of FF7 plot. But you have Sephiroth and the cloning thing and Cloud's funky memory and everything related to them which elevates it to HERP-A-DERP category. Sure, FF8 is even worse.

True, too much screaming. But still - he has the point.

Yes, Cid (and probably Yuffie) is only person without annoying quotes - OMG, my parents are dead, Oh no, I am the Ancient, OH no, i don't know who I am, oh no, what with my sadness, Sephiroth... SHIIIT!

This. Both games are wrong.

He may have a point, or many for that matter, but the way he delivers it detracts from it because I couldn't take more than 5 minutes. I tend to highly value the execution of things.

I want to play VII again, did pirates fix what's wrong with this version? Will I miss the "fast forwarding" emulators have?

IIRC there are only 3 separate enemy "tiers" tied to highest level, there are ones without tiers that just ignore the level scaling(Ultima/Omega Weapon are the only ones I can remember)

all you need to kill most bosses is a character with high atk(easily maxed) and decent limit break... you don't even need to use limit breaks on most fights, normal attacks are usually enough

even with weak characters most bosses are easy provided you can heal yourself, GFs and magic still deal a lot of damage

FFVII is also p. easy, weren't there videos of bossfights that you could win just by repeatedly attacking, even when underleveled?

http://www.enixorigin.com/final-fantasy-vii-viii-coming-to-steam/

Yes folks thats right Final Fantasy VII is coming to Steam! But wait! Rejoice because it will be coming with Final Fantasy VIII! Although there has been no official statements have been released by Square Enix themselves the two games have had their logos added to the Steam DB (Steam Database). Well be sure to update with a list of achievements and changes as soon as more developments are made on the subject! Be sure to check back with EO!

If FF8 was D&D, you would lose XP for casting spells and gain XP for healing monsters. While I have definitely played worse games than FF8, I'm not sure I can even fathom a worse game mechanic than this. FF8 enjoyed other rich features like a broken minigame, and a storyline rivaling FF13. While the game offered reasonable depth in it's character customization, this was pretty much moot considering the lack of difficulty and quality of its characters. I actually played this game for two days straight and beat it in one sitting, but I hated myself for being alive the entire time. Still, any game I can play for two days straight must be doing something right, but goddamned if I can figure it out.
