I'll do a Codex review if Vault Dweller isn't up for one.

Let's be honest, most of you got jollies playing Oblivion.
No.

Morrowind was ten times the game that Oblivion is. Noone here disputes that. In fact most like it for the world, the lore and stuff (including me).
So WTF are you going on about?

Sorry dude, never played it.

For me, all the animations and crap don't me anything if the gameworld is absurd and boring and populated with immersion-breaking cardboard cutouts. This game really looks like it will need extensive modification to be even remotely playable for me. If the important retardedness can't be removed/repaired I won't bother playing. I guess we'll see for sure fairly soon.

Is this like a new internet thing or something? I saw folks over at SA talking about NMA loves Fallout 3 but just isn't honest about it (what) because these videos are so great you have to recognize this shit is true to Fallout (WHAT).

Is this ascribing of opinions to people some kind of new internet debating technique?

A: What the fuck your criticism doesn't count because you love the game anyway.
B: What? No I didn't.
A: Yes you did because I say so. At least be honest about it...

PS: I got very little jollies from Oblivion. I got more jollies from the Shiverwinter Islepeaks Let's Play than from the whole of Oblivion.

Note how both arms are crippled.

Good thing you can sleep it off. And hold a gun with two crippled arms.

I got as far as the atomic car explosion before my stupid-meter overheated and I was forced to close the video.

Also, not only is it not true to FO gameplay, its untrue to FO lore, which may be worse.

EDIT: Just got back from official forums where I was drenched with a solution of liquid stupid + fanboism.

Personally, yeah I could live with what I've seen so far. So far. But I remember the radiant AI promised for Oblivion which was the sole thing which intrigued me about the game...

At least be honest. Hell, most of the people on these boards got really stoked about Morrowind before some kind of post-coitum sadness kicked in. So it won't be the first time that the hivemind made a royal fuck-up.

And I'm sure it won't be the last. But do at least be honest.
Mefi's channeling some Roqua here. I like

Honestly I never even considered playing a demo of Oblibion. I watched a couple hours of streaming footage on the day it was released to judge and that was it. I played Morrowind after a break of many years not playing games and it was probably my first game with semi-lifelike 3D characters, shaders and fancy graphics ever.

I've had an instinctive disgust for 'sandbox' games ever since, sandbox and RPG are not compatible

Nope, I have never given a shit about the Codex hivemind - you know that Mefi.

Always have been, you can look at my post history if your memory is failing you.

So mini mushroom clouds etc doesn't bother you then?

I was AWOL during much of the lead up to MW, but once I was playing it I always said how much I liked the game. I definitely got stoked about Oblivion until reality and the release of info kicked in.

Are you sure you're Mefi? You sound more like Naked Ninja in a trolling mood. :P

The question is, who do you remember? :horatio-cain: (why are you lurking anyway?)

I remember many - too many. I'm lurking intermittently because I found myself not really enjoying the Codex much any more after last years' coup. Maybe I just needed a break (I have been here on and off for a long while) but reading this place takes a fair bit of time, and since I wasn't enjoying as much I stopped. I drop in now and then, and to be fair it seems better than back in April/May, but I don't seem laugh as much when reading posts any more. Whether it's the decline of the Codex wit or just me... dunno. Life goes on.

"Jollies" from Oblivion? It's one of the very few games I couldn't force myself to finish, alongside such gems as Dungeon Siege II and Titan Quest.

Fallout 3? Not even worth pirating. The bandwidth and time would be better spent downloading movies that I enjoy.

If that is the case, then I assume alot of people did get a few "jollies" out of Oblivion afterall. Morrowind is ten times the game that Oblivion is, only OB is unfiltered garbage with MW being more of the same garbage - times ten.

Shame on you Codex, tsk tsk. Standing up for Elder Scrolls, while Fallout 2 gets ridiculed next door. Where have all the patriots gone? :eagle:

I'm more astonished about the amount of people "who really liked the graphics but the facial expressions are total immersion breakers" than about some dude on the internet claiming he knows what games I like and telling me that I am lying when my posts do not compute with his expectations.
Seriously, Mefi, what were you thinking? Or better: Why did you refuse to think?

Rundown of my impressions:
Wrong vault door opening sequence.
Crappy graffix (bomb and vault door lacking any details, glittering sandblasted concrete, etc.), but I liked some of it anyway.
Super secret enclave broadcasting on the radio.
Crappy vats breaks FPS-gameplay and has nothing to do with FO.
Crappy FPS combat.
Ugly menues.
Saying "fuck" for fuck's sake is fucking retarde...eh...fucked up.
"You're from that vault where nobody goes in and nobody leaves." "Yes, that is right. My name is Nobody, son of Nobody."
Mudcrap-people...I always knew Beth were part of the crab people plan to transform men into faggots.
Death animations aren't quite as bad as with bloody mess but their normal level should be the bloody mess level.
Cars, explosions, WTF?!?
Messing with the bomb while a whole congregation of worshippers is watching...jay for npc reaction.
Combat, combat, combat, combat, "I'll do it for 500 bc more.", combat, combat, "I'll fuckin' end you.", combat, combat, combat...
I'll defeat you by soaking up your bullets until you have none left. You can cripple me all you want. Like in real life I can sleep it off.

More or less what I expected. I was just surprised how much I liked the scenery and npc graphics.

Now to all the codex retards: Good night, I hope you sleep it off.

Funny how you can aim with V.A.T.S when it comes to guns, but melee weapons don't have any other options?
Why we removed targeting from melee combat:
1. Melee combat with stat-based chance to hit looks dumb - how can you miss if the baddie covers the whole screen and the crosshair is exactly in the center?
2. How about auto-hitting? It will make the fights more immersive and dynamic.
3. Okay, let's remove the targeting to avoid the abuse of head- & eyeshots.

It was in one of the previews.

I wonder what happens if you look at Mr. Burns and shoot him in the face. Is the quest broken then?
Of course it's not! If he's still standing - he attacks you until he's unconscious. Then he resets - after regaining health he stands up and you can continue the quest.

Some of you are serious graphic whores. No wonder you complain you don't have any RPG's to play: If they don't look like Cyrsis, you won't touch it I guess.

Idiots.

Trolling, eh?

Anyway: if a bunch of fuckers is raping a classic title to make it "next-gen", that's our right to bitch and complain about fucked up graphics (one of the game selling points BTW).

We all know you think Fallout 3 and Oblivion are both shitty RPGs, but like to pretend otherwise to set yourself apart from something you call the "hive mind". That's fine, I don't mind dealing with the deranged, but next time maybe remember to take your pills before posting.

No relation whatsoever.

I realize I'm in the minority here of those looking forward to FO3. I enjoyed Morrowind and Oblivion. I also dug the original Fallout. They're all different games, but I like them each for what they do well and I don't expect them to be clones of each other in terms of gameplay. Perhaps I don't find as many faults with Bethsoft's games because I was never a pnp player and my expectations are different. Either way, I'm looking forward to FO3 being a different game than the originals and the Elder Scrolls titles.

The Bloody Mess perk is a bit overdone in those vids, though.

Yo, Mefi, you're doing it wrong. It's: and one, and two, and three, and... stop trolling!

NOT: and one, and two, and excuses, and three, and musing, and "the guy that goes against the hivemind"(tm) and four.
