Where the fuck did you go? You left the map and I didn't get the follow thing, even though you still had an arrow over your head.

DU just hang around the cath, just do some simple socialising and voila somebody will give ya something.

I think i completely lost it, the motivation of phat loot is gone and i just want to fool around. Or maybe make a new character... Shit my tactic works... i was fooling around with a APA dude and he drops a PowerArmor to fool around too. I take and and off i go.

This thread is about a Kodeks' wet dream - the MMORPG full of lifeless fallout geeks spending all day killing each other in the best gameworld evar. Probably the MMORPG that even a person with intelligence will be able to play without throwing up. It has no females unlike cool kids' WoW but oh well.

Also where do I join the great Hivemind army?

As soon as the Ruskis will make the quests in english, then we can talk.

The server is still down, so you will have to wait.

Cgoat i kinda lost you later, thought you were heading Broken Hills.

I was, but I fucked up somehow and lost you. Then we met again and I missed the "follow" pop-up. Damn. Nice power armor you've got, too. Lucky bastard.

Also, item prices are a bitch. Found a couple of radios, expected to sell them for a hundred caps at least but it turned out they were only worth 15 with my shitty barter skills.

Also where do I join the great Hivemind army?

The Cathedral. Directions in the first page of the thread.

Yeah, I like how Barter is a necessary skill. Barter has NEVER been a useful skill in either FO1, FO2 or FO3. But it's useful in FOnline, although the merchants rip you off too much, and want to buy YOUR SOUL. With low barter skills, you can put a APA and a pulse rifle in the table, and you will barely be able to buy a beer, a wooden stick and a lollipop.

So, found Cgoat, SimpleComplexity and WhiskeyWolf in the game, so far.

Well, if you're bored, go do something diferent. Like atacking the russians in SAD, or getting out of The Unity, taking Mariposa and making your own faction.

That is what I'm going to know soon. I was too lazy to unpack FOnline archive during all the evening.

How is this mmog different from others?
It's in Russian and it's free, plus people give you stuff like in Communism. I'm level 3 now and so far wishing I hadn't nerfed INT so much because I'm missing out on valuable skill points.

Hey wow, SimpleComplexity did start this thread. Shows you how much attention I was paying. I thought it was WhiskeyWolf for some reason.

I've just restarted (using a capital i instead of an l so you can't tell the difference in my name - anyway to unregister old accounts?) and want to give my tips. Take them or leave them as you will:
  • Focus on Melee. I didn't find Unarmed useful as the powerful Unarmed weapons require energy cells and guess what? Ammo is rare as fuck. That might change later on though (I don't know) but especially early on, you'll want Melee. Melee weapons require no ammo which is a huge bonus. My Powerfist lasted all of 3 random encounters before I was out.
  • Head to the Cathedral (assuming the English control it) and see if you can score free armour / weapons (like a good melee weapon). There's a car that arrives every day at a different time or something. Be around the cathedral at that time to score useful stuff as it often attracts everyone who starts to drop off shit they don't need.
  • Intelligence. Intelligence. Intelligence. I did a stupid thing and tried my fun Sniper build (high Luck and Finesse, low Int). Bad idea. Max out your Int and relish the 25 skill points every level up. It's the difference between having Melee at 108% at Level 2 vs a meagre 80% at Level 3 (Finesse screwed me royally there with 10 less points, as Melee was tagged it meant 20% less in the skill). It means killing more stuff better because you actually hit them before they hit you (and Finesse is really shit too, even with a 20% chance at criticals, the damage I was doing was less than what I can do now without it. EG: A rat dies in one hit now without Finesse where-as with it, took several and if I got a critical, it always did very low damage anyway).
  • Small Guns / Big Guns. Again, Small Guns require Ammo and having an actual Small Gun. Something unlikely to happen to you when you're starting (or if like me, you're lucky enough to get a Sniper Rifle, your skills suck so much you run out of ammo anyway attacking a rat or something stupid). Big Guns seem to be popular with the Russians but there are your usual weight issues (ammo for the Rocket Launcher anyone? You'll be lucky to carry enough for a decent fire-fight) and again, ammo problems early on.
  • Run away. From large groups especially. Only take on a few things at a time when you're starting off. Stuff doesn't start attacking you when you first encounter it so you've got plenty of time to see it and run.
  • Patience. You'll learn about the time-out shit. Basically, everytime you enter an area, you've got 30 seconds before you can do another transition (IE: Leave the area to move into another map load). There's even a 30 second timer after all combat attacks so when you're done killing, you often have to wait a bit before you can leave the area. By the way, you can't run (double-click to run) when you've got the transition time-out ticking down in the top left.
  • Brahmin kill. Dogs kill. Try to avoid both until you've got armour and a decent weapon. I've found these two are the toughest low level shit in the game. Brahmin are fast and seem to knock you down repeatedly. I was attacking 3 robbers and 3 Brahmin. I took out two robbers easily only to be killed by the Brahmin. There's also a group of unarmed people who are tough to take on (I used up all my Stimpaks killing them, which was a bit of a waste probably). Dogs also have a nasty habit of knocking you down. Your situation may improve if you have armour.
  • Easy XP. Look for Rats, Mole Rats, Pig Rats, Spore Plants, One or two Robbers (IE: No big groups), Radscorpions, Baby Radscorpions. These seem to die easily enough for about 50 - 100 XP each. 10 Encounters and you're Level 2 already.
  • I picked Energy Weapons for my second build. Why? Solar Scorcher. I assume it still uses no ammo and if I had Energy Weapons, I'd have scored a free one someone dropped off which would've been awesome (range + no ammo requirements + good damage? = win, I hope).
  • Luck. I've never been a fan of low Luck. Bad Luck in Fallout can screw you over. I don't think it needs to be maxed out but having it at 1 might be a bad idea. I find 4 - 6 is a good range. You still get a few good criticals.
  • Charisma. Fuck dat shit. Keep dis shit at 1. I *think* it has something to do with the number of people who can follow you in a group but eh.. Let some other sucker take it unless you really want to group-play or something.
  • Following Other People. Find a person, left-click to get your menu pop-up and choose the funny arrow pointing to multiple people icon. The person you selected will now have a small arrow above their head. Congratulations, you can follow them! You have to be near them when they exit map and when they do, a pop-up appears asking you if you want to "follow" or "cancel". Click "Follow" and you're in their group as they roam around. Means you and a friend or two can gang-up against enemies.
  • Logout on the World Map. Logging out in town means your character stays behind with a little "_off" appended to your username. People rape, kill and steal from characters like that. Oh and when you die, you lose all the shit you have on so as soon as you have enough cash ($100) and some decent crap, find a store-room and dump some shit there as emergency supplies.
  • Tag Skills. You may as well pick 3 weapon skills. Melee is definitely there. Small Guns / Big Guns / Energy Weapons should be your follow-up skill and Unarmed is optional. I think you can forgo that for another skill like Barter.
  • Doctor's Appear to Suck. You might think getting into battle and healing yourself with First Aid is a great idea but there's something like a ONE HOUR time cool-down before you can use it again. Meaning you heal 20 XP and are fucked for the next encounters and may as well have used a Stimpak anyway. Doctor is much the same though that has a TWO HOUR cool-down between uses. Even with low First Aid, you can heal yourself enough. Wandering around the World Map and your regeneration rate hits every hour anyway so you can just avoid combat until your HP are up high enough again if it concerns you.

Nice work DU, gathering all the tips.
anyway to unregister old accounts
No, there isn't - but an old account is useful as a bank to store emergancy shit.

I disagree with that. Unarmed pwns melee. Why? Well, my previous characters were melee fighters. Finding a decent melee weapon was damn rare. And melee starts with less skill than unarmed. Unarmed is good because while it's not as good as guns, you are NEVER defenseless. If you depend on itens, when you die you lose your stuff. With Unarmed, you ALWAYS have means to defend yourself. I'm level 7 and with nothing in my hands, I can defeat any enemy without a burst weapon.

Hmmm... I reckon you might be right. I was on a good run and hadn't died, only to be critically hit by a robber on my way to a store room to stash some stuff and before I got a chance to deposit any cash. Without a weapon, I now struggle to kill even a lousy rat.

I also don't see any use in Barter as I haven't found a merchant yet who had anything other than a token amount of cash on them. Not sure if Barter affects that or quite what though.

Re-build character time!

Also, Shift + Enter doesn't seem to work for the radio? Instead, typing .r or /r before you type something does. EG: Hit Enter as normal and then ".r This is on the radio" to have something go over the radio. Where-as Shift + Enter didn't seem to do shit for me? And Radios need to be equipped if you want to talk over them.

I have a new character as well now. Didn`t tagged melee or unarmed, it`s not that important if you have strength 10, you just need to push points with your second level into unarmed or melee.

Bartering is important, without it you can`t sell needless weapons/stuff for a reasonable price. Buying weapons is a completely different thing, the price will be the same but some traders are cheaper than others (New Reno and Modoc, the reason why it`s so dangerous there).

Unity is pretty weak now, that dude "cektop" can kill a guy with an PA armor with one shot. Last time he aimed for the eyes from like 15 hex fields away. Can somebody PM me the current radio channel and maybe the unity forum link?

Ah one more advice if you get perks ... pick them fast. The next time you open your character window the perks choice will be gone forever. Oh yeah don`t go near DU(especially if you are polish and love The Witcher), he`s crazy.

Gah. After dying constantly I'm finding it harder and harder to care.

Who has decent money to buy though? I'm carrying, scratch that, I WAS carrying around 5 SMGs and a few Hunting Rifles. Who do I sell them too that has the cash to buy them? All I've found so far are people with 65 cash.

yes.

@DU: The system works basically like this: find some unneeded loot with a high barter skill and sell this stuff at a good trader for example that guy in Modoc or in New Reno. Those traders usally have around 25k money. Trade it for the money and buy the equipment you need with it.

"Incorrect version of network report, update the client."

I've tried to re-download the FOclient in the first post a few times now (I'm assuming it's been updated) but never get more than 10 MB.

EDIT: There's a patch:
  • Game client was updated. Main fonline.zip archive was re-packed, please update all mirror links you have. Those who already downloaded the client will need to download and unpack this patch into the client directory.

Alright guys, Cathedral has been taken by the Army of the North, and the Unity's has fragmented two days ago. I've heard that Nails got his bunch on Mariposa, but they are very secretive.

Me? I just found a group. You DO NOT NEED to know who we are.

Unity is fucked up, we (matrix and co) are the last ones left. Server1 turned out to be quite sucky, lots of downtimes and very laggy. Switching characters to different servers would be needed. The game lacks a long-term goal, it`s basically just: wait for the shipment, level up, get better items, kill others. Kinda like a Diablo Fallout.
