After having spent some time with Saints Row 2, I can definitely vouch that it is SA jacked up on 'roids. Got it's fair share of glitches, lacks polish, but it's definitely a solid game. They've cut down on the repetitive stronghold missions (although they are still there) and there's lots of ridiculous activities to do. Great fun

Everyone here is being so nice to the Obsidian devs....

Incline of the Codex.
Maybe because they're so nice to us and seemingly flame-proof? I don't know!

SoZ - This is going to be a classic. Seriously, I've not had as much fun playing a DnD game since IWD

You know i've gotta ask:

Would you admit it if the opposite was true? If you looked at SoZ and said to yourself "Fucking hell this game blows donkey shaft! This company is finished once anyone sees this POS!!" would you still come into the codex and say the game was the most fun you ever had playing DnD?

I am looking forward to the game by the way. :D

Just bought Sacred 2, Witcher Enhanced and Stalker : Clear Skaiieeeees. I felt the need to test my upgraded PC.

Will be buying Far Cry 2.
Considering King's Bounty. Demo seemed pretty gut; but I've played so much HoMM over the years I couldn't but feel a teeny teeny bit jaded with its kind of gameplay.

Was intending to get 7.62mm (sequel to Brigade E5) but the fuckers keep pushing the deadline out. I suppose in some respects that's a good thing.

And yes, I will be getting Fallout 3. Yeah, I'm not Codex material.

Armageddon Empires.

It annoys the hell out of me there's no competition among publishers on individual titles. I'd love to pick up SoZ, Deadspace & FarCry2, but I'm not about to pay the price of a full game for a couple of install-credits. Shit, I'd love to be able to patch NWN2 some day, but alas, Atari's so fucked they retroactively screw legitimate customers.

I guess a year from now I'll be shopping exclusively at Stardock & GOG. My inner graphics whore is not happy.

Codex 2012 PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Wasteland 2 Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Kingmaker Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I've bought the Witcher EE and Lego Batman, and I just pre ordered Far Cry 2, A Vampyre Story, GTA 4, SoZ, and Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods. That should be it for me this fall, although I'm keeping an eye on Saint's Row 2.

I'll probably get Fallout 3, Dead Space, STALKER Clear Sky, and Crysis Warhead, when they hit the bargain bin. And King's Bounty, whenever they feel like properly releasing it in Europe.

The original NWN2 Official Campaign from 2006 was mainly garbage. MoTB and SoZ are solid gold though. (And the NWN2 Toolset rocks despite whiny babies saying it is too hard to use).

Ok, mr. Obsidian guy. I have to ask you for an honest answer. Which of these three screen shots looks the best to you. Honestly!

And when are you guys going to stop with those shiny magical effects so I can actually see what is going on on the battlefield? Are there any people in Obsidian who would one day like to make a 2D game which would look 10 times better than any 3D crap as witnessed from the screenshots above? And are the people in Obsidian aware 2D is better solution for tactical gameplay which NWN2 tries to simulate?

Oh, and please note how both games are older than NWN2.

But why? If people are graphic whores are they blind? Can't they see some much older games look a lot better than new 3D crap? And if it has to be 3D, why not make it turn based? Than at least camera problems would be much less annoying.

PS. I am not impressed by those screen shots, although I like the writing.

Why should they go 2D anyway? 3D is much better (imo obviously...), and if you're implying about turn based RPGs which were 2D ala fallout, arcanum etc - they can still be made in 3D can't they? Like AoD is. 2D to 3D is one of the few things I would call progress.

I don't see why games should be made in 2D these days [they won't be].

And from the 3 pictures posted, the first one looks best. The NWN one is too shiny and you don't see anything.

Spells are over the top, no doubt about that. However, I can't believe some people are still going on about that 2D vs 3D shit. 2D engines, 3D engines, they're all tools. It's what you do with them that matters.

Isn't it obvious why? Those screen shots clearly prove how 3D is inferior when it comes to gameplay and even graphics. I am not saying 3D games are unplayable, but why give up 2D. For once I would like to hear an honest answer from a dev.

Stop trying to fit in with the Codex. There are some of us here who actually liked NWN2, you know. You don't have to hide your true opinions.

Oh come on Fastpunk. NWN2 never looked like that and we both know it. And it's not really a fair fight considering BG was made 10 years ago. LOL.

I was really getting at two points with the screens:

1) The shot selection is important -- the shot chosen from NWN2 combat in the prior post is not exactly highlighting the strengths of the engine, its a single frame from the peak lighting value in a spell VFX blowing out the specular highlights;

2) 3D has strengths and weaknesses and 2D has strengths and weaknesses -- neither of the two shots I posted can be reproduced in 2D, top-down, yet they are interesting perspectives on events.

3D is just different than 2D. There are benefits and drawbacks to each style. The execution is more important than the foundation in some regards. Designers, programmers and artists can make a beautiful and fun 2D game; they can also make a beautiful and fun 3D game. Execution is what counts.

Which true opinion am I hiding?

Also, I've been a member of the RPG Codex forums a lot longer than I've worked at Obsidian.

Ok, thanks for the answer. I don't agree, but at least you were decent enough to answer me. There are other ways you can create those screenshots. Once people used cinematics you know. And all of the screenshots I showed were done in mid action. But never mind.

PS. If you can, please cut down on the shiny spell effects. They are annoying.

3D is not inferior when it comes to gameplay and graphics. That's very subjective. I certainly don't believe that, even if I do appreciate the art in 2D games, and realise that certain 3D games look 'worse' than 2D games.

But when a 3D game looks good, it damn looks good.

As I said, I really feel that 3D is actually a progression over 2D - when done correctly. But in the end they are both different game designs, games can be fun/exciting/deep/use any word you want, both in 2D and 3D.
