Otherwise you (and whoever posted that apologetic review) could just as well be defending EA and their Simcity fiasco..

The difference is this was GOG that fucked up. With SimCity it was Maxis/EA that fucked up. For your analogy to work there should have been a problem with Origin (despite the fact that Origin is run by EA, it has nothing to do with SimCity other than being the distribution platform it's run on) that prevented people from play SimCity.

Futhermore, with SimCity it was a system/mechanic within the game itself that caused the problems. With this game the problem lies with GOG, not the game itself.

It's not unfair, no. The working edition of the game has perfectly good reviews. The non-working product is just that, NON-WORKING. People should absolutely be discouraged from buying it until such time as it's fixed. Because at the moment you'd be paying for nothing.

Really? And when it's fixed who's gonna remove the bad ratings?

Well gee mister, my first guess would be the users who put them there.

It wasn't Maxis, it was EA. The ones taking people's money. Now in this case, the problem is with GOG. The ones taking the money. That's why the bad reviews are ON GOG and not on the developers' site. I thought this site was full of super geniuses.

Alright, super genius, let's put it another way. If you buy something through Amazon and Amazon messes up your order, do you write a bad review of the product or do you direct that to Amazon, the people who messed it up?

The problem lies with GOG, not the game, so giving the game bad reviews is a bit of silly. GOG should have removed the game when it turned out it didn't work, but giving the game a bad review for GOG's fault is you blaming the wrong link in the supply chain.

If it saves me the hassle of trying to set up a 25 year old game on a new OS, I'm more than happy to pay that $6. I can have McDonalds two times less that month.

Now where is mah burger?

Unless you need to start dicking around with CPU cycles and the like. With GOG I click run and if it doesn't work correctly I go bitch on their forums.

I think you don't realize how lazy gamers are. They WON'T go back and correct their bad score EVER.

There's a limited number of System Shock 2 copies 80% off right now. Though anyone who wants it has it by now, I guess.

Dat artificial scarcity: http://af.gog.com/news/special_promo_fall_insomnia_promo?as=1649904300

Special Promo: Fall Insomnia Promo

Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.

You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page ofGOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.

*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****
****NO IT'S NOT WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY PERSON

400 copies System Shock 2 are gone in half an hour or so,now it's Don't Starve and it's going down fast.

Fuck this realy is an insomnia sale, the limited number of copies are disappearing so fast that every 30 minutes or so we are going to have a new game...

I wonder if there will be any non-indies (other than SS2) in this discount.

Too bad I already own every game from GOG. But I have to admit, this promotion is clever as fuck.

Not really. Artificial scarcity bullshit is hardly new or innovative, and it's pretty unbro. Worse than any of the shit Steam pulls for sure.

Lol, those games are flying away. Shelter had 100 copies dissapear infront of my eyes in like 30 seconds. Think I got it in that last groupees bundle. Didnt play it yet tho.
Now Deus Ex sold 200 copies as Im typing this. Funny to watch, lol.

Rofl, they had 100 copies of Tropico for FREE, took me a while till I read it, clicked the link when it was at 47 and it told me offer has expired. That one was less than 5 seconds on site, lol.

Its amazing how fast Shelters disappeared. There were about 100 of them. I was lucky to buy one of them, but only because I was prepared for fast purchase.
Woooow, during writing this post about three hundred copies of Deus Ex were sold.
