I wonder how much influence the wishlist has. Or is it just a way to divert people so they don't make a thread about every game each week in the forums.

That's what I figured too, which is why I usually don't bother

Same & never bothered voting either. Besides, at this point there's a grand total of two of our old games we'd like to repurchase from GOG and we'll probably be able to keep finding room for them, somehow :p

But It's voting! Even it doesn't have any consequences to GOG whatsoever, it makes a difference because you have voted! I always vote.

What two RPGs could these be?

Wonder if one of them is South Park.
Witcher 3, Original sin, Age of Wonders III

On that matter I'm wondering now when gog will go full Judas and introduce DRM.

At the end of the day you know that the GOG fanboys will use their mental gymnastics to argue that DRM is fine, justified or not a big deal if GOG does it.

Note that GOG lets you specify where in the world you're from for the purposes of regional pricing, and will take your word for it. Personally I became American, as far as GOG is concerned, when they introduced regional pissing. Because it's cheaper than being an honest European. Silly as hell, but also Yet Another way GOG is superior to Steam.

Since I moved to Mexico, Steam doesn't want to accept my Paypal account anymore. Well unless I switch to European prices but seriously fuck you. GOG never gave me that problem, or GamersGate for that matter—GG simply offers me prices in USD now, which is obviously more interesting for me.

Too bad they didn't inroduce Potato as a location. 10 PLN games would be fair.

I just wish they'd send all members a mail explaining how to get around the regional pricing shit. I very much admired that they explained how on their forums, back when it was introduced. But if they felt free to do that, the non-dickish thing to do would be to ensure all their customers were aware. Would also make the whole thing taste a little less sour after their mocking the concept, only to jump onto it despite what I'm betting is a total of 0 customers asking for it.

Is Patrician 3 worth buying? I've enjoyed other city/economic simulators like Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Settlers 2, Transport Tycoon.

Yes. It is more of a trading than building game though.
Got it, together with JA2. I was thinking of getting Banished instead of Patrician 3, but I've read on the dex that it can become dull rather quick. Plus, I'm a sucker for isometric projection. Factor in the sale, and it looks like a win-win-win for me. Now all I need to do is find time to play them...
Thanks for the recommendation :salute:

Well they are still trying to make deals with companies for games. If they put up a giant guide called "how to get back at the companies trying to use regional pricing" then I get the feeling a lot of companies would just ignore them.

Back when regional pricing was introduced they - unprompted - explained how to work around it and promised not to try to enforce it, in a topic on their forums. It was basically the official response to the community's "Regional Pricing WTF?!" thread, so really not terribly different from a giant guide.

It surprised the hell out of me. If they hadn't done it, I probably would have assumed they'd at least try to check if you were from your claimed region, as Steam does, and not even bothered to try to work around it. But seeing as their first response to regional pricing questions at their own forum was, essentially "guys, fuck it. And here's how." I'm not seeing why they don't just put that stuff in their Welcome New GOG Customer sign-up email.

If you buy games on sale the difference between 2.99$, 2.99£ and 2.99 Euro is only academical.
I can remember when a new game cost like 600 NOK (about 100$), which was like 10% of my monthly salary back then, so I really can't get upset about current prices on games. I'm much more upset about the quality of current games...

Mage's Initiation not coming to GOG:

I'd love to say that GOG gave us a concise, logical answer that we're not at liberty to talk about, but truth be told, we didn't even get that far into the discussions with them. Yes, they were that dismissive. This came as a pretty big surprise, as I was expecting them to be the most accepting portal, based on a combination of factors like AGDI/Himalaya's track record, our mutual goal of focusing on old games, and the amount of new customers we've drawn to their site. I've always loved GOG and what they do and it was immensely disappointing to have such inane decision-making sully the beginning of what would and should have been a very strong, long-term relationship.

yo JudasIscariot what gives

:decline: What the fuck? The game got Greenlit on Steam, FFS!

That's really odd, seeing as QFI was accepted (apparently) without issue on GOG while being an extremely similar game by a team with a very similar history.

I'd suspect there's more to the story, but I doubt it'll come to light.

Damn, there's a decent market for Mage's Initation at GOG, too, with all the fans of older Sierra Quest games.

I get the nasty feeling that there's some "exclusivity" deal involved here. One title will be sold and GOG gets a bigger cut, but instead several potential competitors will be barred from GOG.

Lord I hope not.

Why are these clowns having sales every frikkin day? Has anyone ever bought anything at full price there? I haven't.
Same with Steam. At this point every game i've wanted to play i had it for 75% off.

It's a vicious cycle. People get used to sales, so they don't want to pay full price anymore. Thus the best way for retailers to drive up revenue is to have more sales.

There's also a psychological factor. Consumers get a high from buying, even more so when they are able able to snatch a product on sale, regardless of how high the initial price was. Some companies deliberately (not GOG.com, though) raise their prices before a sale, so they can later reduce it and call it a sale.

To compound the impulse-buying pressure, the sales are for a limited time only, so customers feel pressured to buy quickly, so they don't lose out.

It's just that those sales have really lost their excitement. You now there is always a sale going on every day at either gog or steam or everywhere.
