Could someone finally explain me what's so great about the Pool of Radiance so that I would be tempted to dig out its box and manual and play it?
Besides octavius' points - parlay option on every random encounter, overall gameplay is quite polished.

Also quiz with minor spoilers:

Could you guess a game with the main evil guy in the form of dragon?
- DAO maybe?
And the dragon is not a simple one, but an 'ancient evil' soul in dragon's body?
- Yes, it's DAO.
And the dragon threatened the whole region with the hordes of evil troops?
- Of course, it's DAO!
And killing this dragon ultimately is not an easy task, because 'ancient evil' soul will leave it to find another body?
- It's DAO, I say you! Thats the Grey Wardens are for!
And you must gather allies (making their quests) to fight this dragon?
- Hey, stop it, I already know it's DAO!
And every member of your party separately can join dragon's side just before final battle so you have an alternative 'evil' ending?
- Wait, you're wrong, no such thing in DAO!
Yes, it's not about DAO, you've just read some Pool of Radiance spoilers.

Dreams, where I'm a viking.
Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera
Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday was kind of the shit. I remember freaking out on the derelict spaceship; having your party members go crazy and actually having to kill them was pretty brutal (yes, yes I know. I just don't want to spoil any more than I already have)

Unlike DAO, I can actually create a shield wall in a Gold Box game and actually protect my spellcasters. And my allies aren't handicapped by personalities that haven't developed since their teenage years.
