Tyranicon, if you're looking for dedicated discussions to specific games, check out /vg/ (it's usually more popular franchises, but there's threads to niche genres)
For multiplayer games there's /vm/ and for table-top /tg/

Go to specialized communities, man. If you look for deeper discussion on general platforms you're gonna be disappointed.

I haven't mentioned 4chan because I have barely used it but I imagine there is a big overlap between 4chan and the codex.

Specially since the creation of /vrpg/ a few years back - they routinely make threads about our lists and reviews, and plenty of posters know about even the more recent e-dramas that go on here

For general discussion of games with the largest gamer demographic (40+) that has any sense of taste or quality, rpgcodex is indeed as good as I have found, ever, but certainly in the last ten years. Could do with more women and less fuckwit racists and so on but nonetheless.

Its actually fucking crazy that this (gaming) is now the largest entertainment sector in the world (unless porn is still bigger) and there is such a tiny amount of decent forums or journalism (and no, paid youtube influencers and clickbaiters are not journalists). I wonder what the fuck causes that phenomenon.

If anything, we need more smart young guys. There are some around, but they didn't grow up with forums and the Codex's level of discourse doesn't do much to attract them anymore. And yes, all the smart young people are racist, sorry to break it to you.

I must've missed the "No Women Allowed" sign, but it's irrelevant anyway. No place for intellectual exchange IRL or online has ever been better because of women; at most they've been good despite women.

No, they aren't. But that depends on your definition of racism. Hating another human being for his appearance is a shallow, stupid reason. Hating anybody is a sign of lack of mental maturity as it hurts you more than anyone. All racists in this sense are idiots. If you're talking about "natural" racism where we make quick judgements about people based on their appearance, including race; "oh he's black, he's probably poor", "oh she's Asian she's probably smart", then this kind of thinking is pretty normal and how our brains evolved to quickly access another human. Still obviously inaccurate but seems to get the job done.

Anyway, I'm ignoring all the nazis of the codex and there is plenty of discourse left that is free from racial slurs and such. Racism is whiny bitch behavior, I thought it was funny at first so I played along until I realized many of the people here truly feel that way. Sad and pathetic people.

Because the codex allows all kinds of shizos, these people flee here as their last bastion. That doesn't mean that they are smart, or among the top quality posters (they aren't).

The thing is, 'racist' in the context of what kind of people you can expect on many public forums these days, includes pretty much anyone who won't bark and clap like a seal for whatever latest corporate virtue signalling is going on. See latest Asscreed kerfuffle as an example, with forums merrily banning people for saying things like 'Hey, why is this the first game in the series that used a historical figure as a main character and they made it an african dude in japan?' Wow, so racist, pure nazism. Trump supporter? Must be racist. Annoyed when a game remake race swaps characters? Definitely racist!

Steam itself is actually probably one of the better places, if only for the fact that a lot of the smaller forums are barely moderated to begin with.
