The "What Went Wrong" vids are always interesting even if you haven't even heard of the game:

>civvie tier "skit" not even a minute in
No bother lol, why do these fags always have to have an on-screen avatar as well? Unfunny cunts.

Codex butthurt warning
Shadowrun returns above elex 2?
Age of decadence below tides of numenera?
Fallouts below jade empire?
Kotor above arcanum?
Disco elysium above Planescape?
Poe series top 3?
Pathfinder Wotr the best rpg ever ?

You don't have to be butthurt to tell the man has some serious quality assurance problems.

Am I really supposed to believe he legitimately gets all achievements (many require multiple playthroughs or some serious challenges) before reviewing every game?

He apparently reads really fast and sets up save game systems to maximize achievements.

I don't like him, all his reviews are disappointingly shallow. His recent IWD2 review was limited to "3rd edition janky, good story". That's it. My review I wrote in 15 minutes covered so much more. The ways in which that game does and doesn't work are so unique and interesting, they way he covered it makes me think he is autistic in some way. All his stuff is like that.

He does link his Steam profile in video descriptions and yes, apparently.

He is a normie with a lot of free time or worse, a storyfag.

Just look at this video. 28 minutes of saying the same template across 40 games. It got stale very quickly.

He is the only person so hell bent on focusing on the story elements of a combat focused DND game.

He does somewhat fare better when it comes to tactical games, but even then it is relatively shallow and gives too much good reviews to game with many systems without considering do those systems actually work.

He is a normie with a lot of free time

Based on what he said in his videos, he is a father of (at least) one kid. He was very poor during his teens, literally homeless. He didn't own a computer and basically skipped more than a decade of videogames.

The interesting thing is that now he is playing old classic games, like Baldur's Gate, for the first time, side by side with more modern ones, without any nostalgia bias.

The sad (even scary in my opinion) thing is that he appear to be rather capable (maybe a bit autistic), but he left his previous work to dedicate himself 100% to play videogames and create these video streams...

It makes sense that he would rate it lower than a game which allowed the creation of two better Shadowrun games.
Not really. As a game Elex 2 is simply better.
If the list was based on being a framework for better stuff then returns should be pretty much higher in the list as is seen with Never winter nights 1. Even more confusing then, is that Never winter nights 2 is higher then 1 if framework for future stuff is considered.
He even admits that NW2 is above because it is a better but less influential game.

I always felt that Mortismal's content and takes are a bit tailored towards gaming the YouTube Algorithm. The man releases content daily. For CRPGs. The 100% achievement schtick is a smart angle because it lends legitimacy to content that's usually pretty shallow, repetitive, and clearly done with speed in mind.

His channel basically boils down to:

1) Content for the biggest CRPG in market (and thus his current favorite).
2) 100% Reviews of new release + obsure games
3) Youtubey filler content like top 5 lists etc

His favorite game so far has always coincidentally the current and biggest mainstream CRPG. Right now it's WoTR. Before it was DOS2. Will probably be BG3 when it comes out.
I think he does genuinely enjoys these games, but it's also very lucrative and convenient to cater to the largest fandoms.

The 100% reviews fill the content gaps and probably help a ton with search discoverability. Individually they probably won't bring a lot of traffic - but they add up. The new stuff gets hype traffic, and lots of the older stuff should have no competition in terms of search. A good way to keep growing.

He's carved a niche for himself where there's relatively little competition, and I respect the hustle. But all that's to say, I probably won't look to him for any sort of deeper analysis or well thought out opinions.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.

Patrician is preparing his next "Quick Retrospective" Skyrim video of 20 hours :-P.

(if you haven't seen the previous videos for Morrowind and Oblivion, they are highly recommended - they are also very long but split in small bits, you do not have to watch them all in one go)
