I have the Quake 4 Special Edition that came with that as well, although I am not sure if it got the same treatment on the PC version. Would be nice to do a coop run though. It is kind of funny that I never once thought about the differences between Quake 1 and 2 as a kid, when you play them now they are so very different.

I recently learned that Quake 2 wasn't originally even conceived as a Quake game, it was supposed to be named something else, but the names they wanted were already taken.

Yeah I know, the power of cheap/simple marketing is strong :)

Anyone else who is into Quake and would like to extend this?

Pardon my ignorance but what's the goal of that project?

"Port" over Quake to Unreal Engine 4. I have started to do pieces of it mainly to learn the API, but if there are more people interested I would definitely like to do a full conversion as a collaboration project.

I guess it is not really needed, but it could potentially make it easier for people to make maps and mods in a more modern environment.

I gathered that much, I just wasn't sure about the scope of the project. It sounds cool but also very ambitious. Anyway I would replay Q1 in UE4 because why the hell not.

Map jam #5

The pack features a start map and 8 maps of various themes made for WarrenM's Qonquer mod (included), which lets the player fight waves of monsters in arena-style maps, with the occasional assistance of minions. The map sources are included.

What kind of weapon pack is that?
Is there any weapon pack for Quake? I remember doing some vague search and either run into old links (no longer working) or edgy forum answers ("find them yourself, use google n00b" etc.) or people have no idea what to answer but +1 post for the sake of it.

The shotgun is lifted from Zerstorer:

There is also the Zerstorer themed Map Jam:

So it's not like Doom, where you can use fanmade gunpack with fanmade maps? You need to use maps with these weapons included?
Ok.

I'm sure there are mods like that but I can't immediately think of any good ones..

I do know that it's possible to use the Zerstorer weapons outside of Zerstorer. Just:

*Load up Zerstorer
*Lower the console and type map e1m1 (for example) you will now find yourself in Quake's Slipgate Complex and you will soon find Zerstorer's Riot Shotgun and Nailgun instead of the vanilla Q1 weapons.

This works with other custom campaigns as well but you will have to use cheats in some cases.

Edit:

Quake with Malice enemies and weapons  I have a soft spot for this TC but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone anno 2015, Malice had some nice innovative ideas and some cool weapons not to mention a great soundtrack. Unfortunately some of the game's level design is terrible and the PC sounds like a porn actor...

Perhaps not the right place for this, but since most people here enjoy good level design and some people here even make their own maps, do you guys have a good rule set or design philosophy you use or have read? I am looking for resources discussing level design in general (single player only) in a "old-school" sense (so mostly abstract level design and to some extent a bit more modern design e.g. Half-Life). Been looking at a lot of John Romero interviews for example which I quite enjoy.
