Stumbled upon this thread the other day: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1297900/discussions/0/5625537320600816013/
UE4 is an ugly turd of an engine with lighting worse than engines made before it, even pre-baked shit.It is pretty sad how old games when upscaled look better than most new games. While the new games look the same shitty way even if in 20k resolution.
Antifa flag icon for OP says it all.Stumbled upon this thread the other day: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1297900/discussions/0/5625537320600816013/
Man, I remember first seeing stills of that UE2 tech demo in a gaming mag, I was so gobsmacked at characters having individually-modeled fingers. Kept trawling my local shop after that, asking about "Unreal Two." And then I finally got it... UT 2003... That was when I learned of Decline. If you watch the unreal engine tech demos compilation on YT you can see how this mindset evolved.
I got bored and started browsing the Steam forum for the remake and found this
Maybe there is hope after all?
Last I heard they were planning to reuse all the original recordings of the voice acting for the German dub so I doubt the writing will be changing much if at all. I don't think anything we saw in the vertical slice is going to carry over to the remake.I got bored and started browsing the Steam forum for the remake and found this

The RETARDED combat system is just one of the many problems with this remake. The remake starts with a consequenceless explosion in the most vital area of the penal colony(trade exchange zone) and nobody cares about it. Gothic is all about freedom, immersion and story yet the remake is all about handholding, gamey nonsensical mechanics and awful writing.
It's probably going to suck. That said, I'm trying to keep an open mind.
This game is going to be shit on a wall.

Can't they just port Gothic 1 to Unreal Engine and improve the enviroment and character models? Even if it would be a shitty work like GTA: Definitive Edition modders could still fix any visual issues.
No, because since the industry no longer makes new games, only remakes and sequels, these "remakes" are the only chance new devs get to "shine and make something of their own". Of course this is entirely retarded as a pursuit because making a true to the original remake and making your own thing are mutually exclusive. You cannot simultaneously do your own thing and stay true to some pre-established framework. Its like saying you respect traffic rules while being in the wrong lane. Sure you may respect them but since you are in the wrong lane it does not really matter whether you respect them or not, now does it?Can't they just port Gothic 1 to Unreal Engine and improve the enviroment and character models? Even if it would be a shitty work like GTA: Definitive Edition modders could still fix any visual issues.
General Update - Minecrawler Sneak Peak & Call for Community Manager ApplicationMinecrawler Sneak Peak & Call for Community Manager Application
Back in March, we released a render of the actual in-game Scavenger created for the Gothic Remake to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gothic. Since it’s been a while, we thought we would post another update.
We really enjoyed the critical discussions and constructive feedback that came out of this post and so we will continue releasing key elements of the game that way.
Today we're bringing you a sneak peak of our interpretation of the Minecrawler.
We can assure you that they’re even more terrifying moving around in-game. We also came up with a small additional twist to these creatures, but there’ll be more on that in a later update.
Generally, we are very pleased to share that the development of the Gothic Remake is progressing on all fronts. We have assembled a team of over 35 specialized developers at our Barcelona office and are working with several contractors and outsources in addition. Gothic may be more than 20 years old, but the scope of this game cannot be underestimated.
We are also still looking for additional people to join our team. If you’re interested, you can check our open positions here: www.alkimiainteractive.com
Today, we want to put a special spotlight on the open position of Community Manager at Alkimia Interactive! We are looking for a versatile person to join us at our Barcelona office and help with coordinating our communication efforts and community presence, among other things. The most important part is to be passionate about Gothic and proficient in English and German (ideally Polish or Russian as well). You can find more details here: https://alkimiainteractive.com/callforcommunitymanager.html

Barcelona, Spain / Vienna, Austria, December 23rd, 2021: Greetings from the Colony! As the year 2021 is coming to an end, Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic wants to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
Thank you for your support and enjoy the holidays! We have prepared a short video from the Gothic Remake developers. The Goblin's hats will of course not be part of the game, who would put a Santa outfit in a game?

The Gothic Remake is currently in development for PC, PlayStation®5, and Xbox Series X|S. There is no official estimated release window yet.
