Dagorkan, I apologize if you or anyone else who felt I was sitting on some high horse or attacking them in general, I certainly do not think I am any better or worse then the rest of you. I am generally just a lurker but this thread was too much to ignore. When I said "pass the acid test" I meant berating users who have different tastes in RPG's or games in general. The users I am talking about know who they are, and the ones who are not know who they are too. And yes I do agree with you.

Edward_R_Murrow,

Vendetta of some sort? I used the magic of the "Search for all posts by Username" function and found some interesting stuff.

I uh...don't get "vendettas" over entertainment products. I really don't give a shit if someone hates or likes the same video games as me.

I'd keep quiet too if I knew the second I announced real time, first person perspective or anything else the Fallout fanboys will hate that they would throw us down and gang rape us until we didn't have assholes anymore. I don't know why your company bought the rights but God be with you brother.

(Not my first post by the way)

People take video games way too seriously. I'm going to really freak people out now I liked Baldurs Gate 2, I think it was better then Fallout. I liked all the jokes and pop culture references in Fallout 2. I liked KotOR and it's sequel to a lesser degree.
Holy shit i'm like the antichrist of PC elitest snobs and Fallout geeks everywhere.

Check out my equally qualifiable reply:

No...you do!

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha kneel before me puny mortals.

I have no clue what the hell these quotes, (out of context I might add) are supposed to prove. Most were made in jest and the people who I was talking to knew so. Do you really think I give a flying poodle dick what anyone thinks? About as much as anyone cares what I think.

No one has asked me to "back up my claims" because I never made any, having roughly 10 or less posts since I registered here four years ago.

How exactly does someone "back up" a personal preference in something? Nobody, including anyone here has to justify their personal preferences for anything to you, the codex or anyone else in the world. You like isometric turn based stat heavy rpgs? Great! Someone else likes rpg-lite thumb twitchers? great for them too. You can't prove or back-up a personally subjective taste and anyone who asks you, me or anyone to do so is a retard.

Well gee....I'm pretty sure we're all certain it's illegal. I think the question was whether or not that law has any power (which it doesn't) or whether it is okay to break that law (where there is a huge shitstorm from both sides).

Actually they can and have and I won't do your homework for you if you don't know of any such cases. The only shitstorm on this issue is between pirates who feel a need to justify to themselves their criminal activities and people who don't break the fucking law.

What a great comeback! Such wit and brilliant logic! I can't see why you didn't win the whole forum over

There's another one with another really crappy straw-man type of thing.

You don't get to talk about anyones wit or intelligence until you at least learn what a straw-man argument actually is. A straw-man is when you set up a ridiculous and inaccurate caricature of your opponents argument or beliefs and then proceed to easily tear them down, all the while ignoring his or her actual position.

Yeah, well the last posts of seen of him are sarcastic one-liners and stuff designed to drum up stuff. I'm sure he's got a good reason...

"Pot i'd like you to meet the kettle, i'm sure you'll have plenty to bitch about."

Mr. Gaider has as much right to treat others the way he is treated, just like any other human being. Do you know how many game developers, hell entertainment figures in general actually take the time to show up at fan sites and talk to people? Not too fucking many! And his reward for giving people his time, time he could be spending with his friends and family, is to be insulted and talked down to. There are a lot of good people who come here to chat and who would like to give positive feed back that Mr. Gaider would happily consider, only to be drowned out by loudmouths like yourself who should spend less time bitching and more time making their own fucking games instead of telling others how to make theirs.

I don't think Gaider should be put on a pedestal or treated differently (better) than anyone else, he does says some stupid things and has been criticized for a long time but nobody deserves the irrational hate he received here.

Apparently both the DETONATION and RELOADED cracks have been nuked as they don't remove all security checks and result in the inability to save games and other game-breaking bugs.

I guess that's a small victory for the DRM and Bioware. At least they stemmed the tide of piracy a little.

Luckily, copying has no effect on other people's lives, so my conscience is clear.

I think people enjoyment will be much greater if i actually buy their games instead of just ignore their stupid practices of not releasing a demo. And yes i do buy their games and don't waste money on pirated CDs. Usually i borrow a copy from a friend and try it which makes me a lousy greedy thief according to you.

Copying has an effect on other people lives, it depends on the reasons you do it and how you do it.

Art, games, and a whole lot of other crap thrived far before there was even the concept of Intellectual Property. It is just greed, pure and simple - It is not "we want to make a living and be able to continue with our craft", it is "We want all we can get our dirty paws on.

If you say so VD. There's no point of trying to convince you otherwise when you already made your own opinion and put everyone on the same bag. Say did you ever downloaded an abandonware copy? Then that means you don't care about anyone and you do it only for grid.
Uh, you do realize that these are not my quotes?

Sorry VD but you are blowing things a bit out of proportion here. Some people can't play their games because of the DRM and they decided to get a pirated game to play a game they already own, instead of waiting for EA to fix their crap. You can't even accuse them of piracy because they have paid for the game already.
And did I accuse them of piracy?

Dgaider was being a little silly in accusing them of piracy.
Whom did he accuse?

Nobody would ever ask you to back up statements like "I prefer first person RPGs" or "I like party based games more than single character ones". However, statements like "RT is better than TB" or "BG2 is the pinnacle of role-playing" would have to be explained.

I agree with you so far as it is not unreasonable to ask someone why they enjoy a particular game or style of game over another. All though it does usually come down to "This is just my taste in games."

Sorry for abandoning this thread to anyone who was desperately waiting on my insights (all zero of you), no time/energy for replies, but curious about one thing...

actually it was a standard "we've told you it will happen (and fuck up your own customers)" thread. or better to say "Great job fucking up your own customers, Bioware" like the title sarcastically suggests.

So has Mass Effect been cracked or not? I'm hearing conflicting reports - that the cracks are fakeys/don't work.

I belive that piracy-panic and DRM is a part of the ancient plot to controll humanity. Now we have DRM. In the future we'll have to install spyware that will scan disc for pirated programs before we'll be able to play any game! Of course program will report any anti-conspiracy e-mails or documentsto the Iluminati Moon Base or something like that.

As far as i know the game has been cracked completely, another group issued a patch to fix the reloaded/detonation cracked exe.
And on the legit buyer side , like Bioshock no news on when if ever there will be a patch that completely removes the limited install etc.

Well, I checked the comments on demonoid and piratebay and apparently after a certain point only autosaves work and a the galaxy map doesn't respond or something, which is crucial to the game methinks. Apparently you can override it with the console but there are conflicting comments on that so I dunno. If copy protection hasn't made the game unplayable then its certainly made it annoying to play. A brief victory for Bioware?

why? with Bioshock it was the same. they were cracking Bioshock for 2 weeks.
they also were cracking Prince of Percia T2T for almost a year - and here it only 5 days or so passed.
it seems DRM corrupts savegames if it can't find that the game is activated but instead finds that you play it nonetheless. now imagine if something will go wrong with your registry etc - you may as well get corrupted saves even if you own the game legitimately. pretty risky if you'll ask me.
I certainly hope that crackers will win this one - otherwise this 3 installs limit spyware DRM may spread onto more products.

My mind
Its actually quite simple really. Pirating is not right, nomatter how you turn it. Pirating is seen to be "kewl", its seen as "rebelion", but there is no "rebelion", they don't give a flying shit wether or not Bioware use SecuRom, they couldn't give a damn. Don't fool yourself that its Bioware's or EA's fault there are pirates, thats fucking ignorant and naive, nomatter what there will be people who will make cracks and keygens and whatnot for EVERY PIECE OF SOFTWARE AVAILABLE, regardless of context and regardless of protection. Now about actually downloading a pirated game is something else, if Bioware or EA or whoever knowingly implements systems to PREVENT their customerbase from actually "consuming" (playing, reading, viewing, whatever) their products, REGARDLESS of the reasons (namely pirates, wich again, don't give a fuck anyways, thus reasons are irrelevant) then you must be fucking retarded to demonize people who Bioware or EA or whoever cheated for downloading the pirated version. The fact of the matter is that there will be pirates nomatter what, wether or not people will download said pirated games is something else entirely. Personally i almost never download a pirated game, unless i get buttfucked by purchasing a product that refuses to work like it should. I ofcourse understand the paradox that without the pirates i wouldn't be able to download said game anyways, but i also wouldn't have to download said game anyways, unless there wouldn't be pirates because of the reason of good protection, wich is a dumb and naive utopia made up by people developing systems like SecuRom.

Pirating is wrong. Of course DRM, 3 times install limits etc. are stupid and fuck over the honest customer. However, just don't buy games using these. You have no right to pirate the game because you want to play it so badly.

If you bought it and it isnt working, than downloading a crack or torrenting the whole game is ok.

End of story.

Ah but then you'd be "in the wrong" as it were for downloading the p2p/filesharing version wouldn't you?
Across official forum boards of some game publishers like Take2, jowood and Bethesda, espousing that argument gets you banned and people calling you a thief, and keep in mind this is even for saying for example gamecopyworld has a nodvd crack of whatever game it is.

Exactly. Just boycott the dev/publisher until they close down or come to their senses.

If you own a legit copy of the game, then devs/publishers have no fucking business trying to interfere with what you download or do with the game. They're just not obliged to try to help you if you break the game with 3rd party shit.

Forgot to take your pills again, dearie? Well, if I recall correctly, when you were more, uh, reasonable, you were more than willing to present, explain, and defend your position and I've enjoyed our debates greatly. You didn't have to, of course, but why else would you visit a forum like the Codex?

Not for the same reason, but cracking the game is still a violation of the DMCA (whether it's a legit copy or not), and illegal.

Key phrase there is 'willing to'. I did not have to; but I chose to. I still do when I feel it's worthwhile. But, one doesn't have to. If someone is being a punk when demanding answers people have the right to ignore their 'request'. or even if they are being nice about it.

Afterall, the Codex is about options.

Found this on the internet, it's about Mass Effect: Translated:

The security seems to be better than expected, leaked versions give alot of trouble: you can't save, or can't continue the game without cheating/using the console. So i am not gonna use the leaked version, but BUY (Booya!!) the game in the store when the price has dropped.

Just to try and cement this; I'm not trying to say that the majority of pirates would not buy a game if it wasn't able to be pirated. The majority of them are probably like this guy (judging from statistics). Not to say that a quote from one guy necessarily proves anything.
