Hmm, I wonder why Piranha Bytes isn’t held the same standards of graphical fidelity as Electronic Arts? No one is going into a AA (more like BBB) European ARPG expecting good facial animations. It’s not a selling point for anyone who might be interested.

It's not just graphics that are held to a different standard.

Tell me honestly. If Bethesda developed Elex and it turned out the same, do you think it would be #38 on the greatest RPG of all times list, or would it be shit on relentlessly?

Question for those who are playing/have played, and have used Firearms: if I wanted to use Firearms (Accuracy) as my only method of dealing damage, would that work out? I'm seeing conflicting info, with some people saying Firearms do amazing damage, and then others saying that they don't do enough damage so don't rely on them...

Everything I've experienced so far would indicate that you should be able to do a pure Firearm damage build without trouble. Not only do they do a great deal of damage, but they also knock out enemy armor gauges too. Just have to make sure to always have enough ammunition on you.

Freaking sweet. I'll probably take Science so that I can craft my own ammo.

Next question: does Anointed Weapons work on rifles/pistols?

I really dunno why people are being soft on this game in particular, seen games like Risen 2 and 3 being shit like no tomorrow and they probably have better gameplay than this one.

Its quite bizarre how much hype this game has had, even in mainstream media. But they somehow managed to get the "iTs tHe nU biOwARe" comparison. Go have a look at the steam reviews, half of them cite Dragon Age. I guess now that Bioware have officially given up on life there are a lot of desperate fanboys looking for a fix.

Still don't get this, and after playing for a good deal of time, resent the comparison.

Despite them getting pushed into the role by that interview question and probably their publisher, I don't feel that "nu-Bioware" is applicable to this at all. I remember clearly how I felt in the first few hours of Mass Effect, and that is dog shit compared to how I feel about this.

From the RPGSite review:

"Since Companion characters on friendly standing with the player can give a passive buff to a specific talent, that interaction adds a tangible component to maintaining good standing with your party members as well."

  • Aphra boosts Science (well that was obvious, in hindsight)
  • Siora boosts Vigor (giggity)
  • Petrus boosts Charisma
  • Vasco boosts Intuition
  • Kurt boosts Craftsmanship

Yep its pretty strange, and could backfire on Spiders potentially. Or if they have enough stuff going on to keep some of the 'Bio-drones' around it could work out great and this could be their breakout hit!?

Hopefully if the Bio-Drones stick around, they'll learn a thing or two about decent videogames.

I'm really annoyed that you can't create a custom class.

I'm pretty sure it was done that way to create a mechanical impediment to compliment the conceptual division between mysticism (magic), might, and technology. It makes sense not only from a setting perspective, but a balance one as well, I'm sure. Despite that, you can work your way into whatever custom class you want given enough time, and pretty quickly from the beginning of the game, all things considered.

Does Anointed Weapons work on Rifles/Pistols and can I use Stasis/Heal Magic without the Magic Ring skill/boosted Mental Power??

wow even on minimum graphixxxx settings this game looks good

so far my only complaints:
jankiness of combat but that's the trademark of eurojank games so whatever
some of the faces during dialogue look very very bad when they start to talk

So if I get this right If I chose magic all this does is give me a ring that shoots magic, instead of a firearm that shoots bullets or something else that hits things. Meaning there are no spells or other stuff that makes the mage different from the shooter for example?

Gender is a bigger choice than class in the game
Big if by class you mean like profession, not social class.
Can you chose social class during creation btw? Like sinecure degenerate nobility, bourgeois explotator or working class.
