Also just to address Grauken's message, I've been working on a second project for the past month which is a retro helicopter flight simulator (not sure if there's overlap with GC users?) It's been very popular on Twitter (for me), the change of work has been nice and I'm very enthusiastic about it, but I'm also still committed to working on free updates for GC, and have done so during this time (without much to show due to the nature of rewriting code) it's just going at a bit of a slower pace. I feel GC is a strong application as it stands and while I have dreams for it getting lots of new features I think it does a lot right now and the updates don't feel quite as essential as they used to, thinking back today on the early days of v1 and v2. I still want to work on GC but I don't want that to be the only project I ever work on forever.

Hello Hidden Asbestos, is there an upgrade path from v3 (I come from v2) to v4 ?
It tends to be a tad expensive to follow your major version updates, TBH.
Not any more. FYI v4 came out in September 2016 and support to upgrade to v4 was available until the end of 2018.
v4 is still the current major version in 2020.

edit: Oh,I forgot to post here that v4.4.1_f2 was released recently. It fixes some serious image export bugs.

Hidden Asbestos I cannot stress enough what a lifesaver Grid Cart is for pnp. I only had an hour to prep for a cyberpunk game today. Within 25 mins, I was done with 4 battlemats (subway station, subway, street, office lobby), leaving me with enough time to do up the rest of my GM notes and PC tokens.

Hidden Asbestos, it would be great if you offered a demo. Having paid v2 then upgraded to v3, tbh I was wondering if forking new moniez for v4 wouldn't be a bit exagerated. Especially if there are v5, 6, 7 around the corner
I spent a few hours coding a keygen (which was lots of fun, don't worry I won't make it public of course) just to try it before buying and I really liked the improvements compared to v3.
So could you tell me of your future release plans to know if it's better to buy v4 or to skip it and keep my v3 while waiting for the v5 ? :)

Err, slightly less motivating there Tramboi.

Updates to Grid Cartographer 4 have been released, for free, for 4+ years. I've no plans for a paid upgrade to some hypothetical "Grid Cartographer 5" at this time.

Thank you, that's all I needed to know to buy it :)
I think I missed the fact that 3->4 was free at the time (spawned a kid).
Thanks for this cool program.
And seriously, it was a nice puzzle game to crack :)

Is there a way to make the thick lines be every 30 tiles instead of every 20?

Holy shit. I was playing Wizardry 6 and decided to open GC so I could map the game out, and GC recognized the game and began drawing an automap, even recognizing when I left the map and came back through a different door. This is incredible.

Glad they talked about the remake. Its a nice game. There are a few other TI-99 rpgs that are nice like Legends I & II.

Thought I'd let you folks know that I shut down the gridcartographer.com forum last night. It was a ghost town and things like Discord, Patreon, this forum and Twitter have replaced it. Seemed like it had run its course and was just becoming a burden of security updates and checking for spam with no new content.
I know many of you had posted on there and I just wanted to say thanks for building a great community.

Why not just ask DU for a subforum here? This is the interweb's biggest community of old school grognards, many of whom already have GC.

That's ok - tbh I'm trying to cut down on admin and streamline things so another forum somewhere else (on top of the Steam forum I get for being on there) isn't the goal. I'm really loving Discord as it lets me chat directly to people and I prefer that. Will be making more posts on Patreon as well so that gives me a blog.

v4.5 Beta 2 is now available via the Steam 'betas' option, or on the Discord server

Here's a blog post (public) about the update + future developments
https://www.patreon.com/posts/42237133

I also made a video covering some of the changes in this new version:

I'm planning to continue on with a monthly releases, enjoy!
