In this thread: various retards confuse 'Diablo clone' with 'ARPG, a genre established by Diablo'. The same various retards, however, take umbrage at the idea that every FPS should be called 'Wolfenstein 3D clone', because what's really changed, when you imbecilically reduce all iterative changes to absurdity? Nothing at all, homes.

If ARPG = Diablo clone, then there's no need to use 'ARPG'. I wonder what terminology they use to categorise these many, many Diablo clones, though. I'll wait until you find out.

Dipshittery abounds, profanely.
I think the popular Dragon Slayer games were well before the first Diablo, fairly sure they, and others were considered action rpgs. Perhaps I'm wrong, there's always a lot of differing views on what is and is not an rpg let alone an action one. It was mentioned previously that dragons are the ultimate fantasy monster in fantasy games and literature, I've always thought it a pity that giants weren't given the same treatment as they seem to have been just as, if not more, important in mythology all over the world. Not that that last point has anything to do with the discussion but I like giants and nobody else does so I have to speak up for them.

after 60h+ my final verdict is qualifies Grim Dawn as an (better-than-the) original Diablo-like,

snorts

Why are you snorting? As a game Grim Dawn is easily better than Diablo 1 as do most other successors when stuff like graphics, gameplay, build variety, length, story, etc. are taken into account. There is only one aspect D1 is not quite matched and that is atmosphere. It has something timeless about it though I cannot quite put my finger on it as to why.

Grim Dawn has absolutely nothing separating it from the other Diablo clones. Below average graphics, standard gameplay, forgettable music, typical "kill everything in a second" build variety, lame monsters you don't even notice, a story everyone is clicking through.

A barely mediocre game that has nothing on Diablo 1 but we're supposed to believe is some sort of evolution when all it does is play it so safe it should be teaching sex-ed in schools.

World in GD is pretty interesting with its believable settlements, characters and their quests with variable outcomes, with added flavor of side stories found in journals in most locations, I think GD became more of a solid ARPG over the years, and less of a grindy MMO diablo clone. Diablo1 is a village with random dungeons beneath it, its atmospheric, yes, but these games really shoudn't be compared.

Nonsense.

Probably a coincidence. Unless they want to say that rioting is a hideous monster that lurks in swamps. Which oh boy.

The Devs have announced which new title they've been working on. Behold:

The creators of Grim Dawn are working on a new real-time strategy game

Crate Entertainment, the team behind Grim Dawn, is currently working on a new real-time strategy game, called Farthest Frontier. In order to celebrate this announcement, the team released a gameplay trailer that you can find below.

In Farthest Frontier, players will protect and guide their people as they forge a town from untamed wilderness at the edge of the known world. Players will harvest raw materials, hunt, fish and farm to survive. Additionally, they will produce crafted items to trade, consume, equip and fight with as they battle for their survival against the elements and outside threats.

The game will enter Steam Early Access later this year, and will remain in Early Access for 4-8 months. This Early Access version will have the core systems and features. Moreover, it will provide 10+ hours of gameplay. Players will start off with settlers in the wilderness and progress through 4 tiers of town-building and defense against raider incursions.

Enjoy the following trailer and stay tuned for more!

Very old news. We've known they are working on a city building game for literal years.
I was not aware the people that made one of the few decent ARPG's game then decided "Gee why not make something there are a billion of?" but I am often a year behind on news.

Is there a more derivative and uninspired genre than diablo 2 clone?

I still have no idea what they are thinking, but one can at least be p much 100% sure they'll come around to GD2 sooner rather than later.

When I saw the title I was hoping for maybe something at least in the lines of Hinterland/din's curse, where you're tasked to expand/protect your village/city whilst going through diablo-esque dungeons/lands.

Probably bored of working on the same game for nearly a decade. I think they said that GD2 will come but it'll be handled by Zantai, who, imo, has ruined GD. The original design by Arthur Bruno was much more interesting to me and he's working on this city builder now.

City builder is a genre more oversaturated than even Metroidvania. And it doesn't look like they are bringing anything new to the table. Letdown.

What's the difference between original design and now?
