Wow, JarlFrank will be pleased man, finally he can play QfG-esque game as a women.

But damn bro, that was fast! The development time is only take a year yes?? Or am I wrong?
You guys are so productive compared to the other indie devs, and yet the game's free?! Just wow, it's not easy to make me surprised... :salute::salute:

Damn I hope Mr Wolf Mittag works on Darghul Enhanced Edition as fast as these guys, and the xlengine guy too,
and Crazyloon's Ancient China Fallout should come this fast too, and Surfsolar's mod, and my salary...

:negative:

tl;dr, :bro::bro: and good luck!!

I also first thought that that this would be more related to the board game Hero's Quest...

I used to play Hero's Quest allot when I was a kid. that was a great game. Just out of curiosity I did a search for Hero's Quest and found that there are still people playing today and someone has a current blog about Hero's Quest. Check this thing out.

It's obviously a reference to what Quest For Glory was originally called before they changed it because of trademark issues with that board game: "Hero's Quest".

Can't wait for the game though.

Actually, the game has been in development from late 2009. But a lot of the backgrounds and sprites got reworked since then. I joined the team last year, so that's where you might be getting one year from.

That said, Corby (lead artist) is a machine when it comes to sprites, and Radiant is an excellent programmer, and it's usually sprites and programming which take the longest in a game's development. So we have a very good team of dedicated people :)

Another update on IndieDB - this time about the game's development: http://www.indiedb.com/games/heroines-quest/news/the-making-of-heroines-quest-the-herald-of-ragnarok

Also, our writer/programmer, Radiant, is planning to be at AdventureX in London on 7th/8th December! Admission is free, so if you're in the area, you can meet him and check out a pre-release version of the game. For more info about AdventureX, visit http://www.screen7.co.uk/adventurex/index.html.

Ha, I was hoping IndieDB would've approved my news post much sooner, but since they have not yet reviewed it, here is the official news:

Crystal Shard is pleased to announce that we will be releasing Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok on Christmas evening (December 25th, 2013, Europe/American time).

It has been a long journey, but we are finally at the stage where the game is ready for release. The game can be downloaded for free from our website http://www.crystalshard.net/hq.htm), and we will also organise for it to be hosted onto various mirrors.

Stay tuned for the release, and happy holidays from Crystal Shard!

Crystal Shard is proud to announce the release of Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok, available for FREE download!

hqposter.png

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is an adventure / RPG hybrid. Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through. Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way.

The game is designed in the spirit and atmosphere of the classics, and strives to have the same high quality of art, music, and plot. With multiple character classes and several solutions to many puzzles, the game has excellent replayability.

Features:
- Explore the rich world of Norse mythology!
- Three character classes with separate side quests: use your strength as a warrior, the arcane arts as a sorceress, wit and guile as a rogue, or create a hybrid with skills from multiple classes.
- 32 distinct voice acted characters with animated portraits.
- Over 100 hand-painted backgrounds and 10,000 sprites in animations.
- Many monsters, including giants, trolls, and svartalfar.
- High replayability due to optional quests, alternative solutions, and the three different classes.

So, 5 minutes in I'm trying to find some food not to starve, I start freezing to death and a goddamn brigand chases and kills me.

I love it already.

Holy crap, itz here! Between Age of Decadence and Baldur's Gate, which I already have on my holiday to-play list (opposites attract!), I just hope I have some time to play this one too a bit.

I'll do a newspost about it later today if Infinitron doesn't beat me to it.

Okay, a wee bit of criticism/patch suggestions (I don't know if there's an official forum, so I'll just post it here and hope someone will see it ;)):
1. Endurance and Fast Talk go up way too fast. I'm playing as a Sorceress and currently my Endurance is higher than my Willpower, and Fast Talk is higher than Magic, even though I did absolutely nothing to train them other than walking around the world and talking to people.
2. Minor bug (spoilerish)
I successfully turned on all the stones at the gate, but nothing happened. The quest marker suggests I go to the village to talk to someone, while in fact the person I need - Snorry - is in the city. It's nothing too bad, but still made me waste some time trying to figure out what I'm missing.

V_K - we do have an official forum here: http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewboard.php?BoardID=17 , but I am keeping an eye around the communities anyway :)

Thanks for the feedback! It's one of those things which is hard to balance across three classes (e.g. a person playing a pure rogue class would probably expect fast talk to train faster than a person playing a sorceress class). The tweaks are very easy to make, so I've passed this along to Radiant and he can look into adjusting it in the next version.

Is there a way to drop items from the inventory for good? I accidentally picked those blasted snowballs, got overencumbered and started loosing stamina. Tryed throwing them - lost even more stamina and had to reload.

You can use them in your inventory (use HAND on snowball) to discard them.
