It reminds me of the old games that had UI filling up a lot of screen space. Why not stylize the "viewer" to look more like a helmet?

A few examples of how it could look:

What does me playing 2d games have to do with me *making* 2d games?

...You're not terribly bright, are you? lol
Are you drunk?

Who is asking you to make a 3D game? It is entirely possible to get a helmet visor look in a 2D game by modifying the bits of the square. In the HUD visor mod for Doom (the third spoiler) it is simply another layer on top of the main screen. It doesn't appeal to you? That's fine, there is no need to make dumb excuses (like "i PlAy 2d gAmEz1 lul") or insult someone.

Well for one, I don't drink (on the wagon 2 years and counting) & probably put your brain in gear before opening your mouth would be wise, perhaps?
Perhaps you got permanent brain damage from drinking all that alcohol. That would explain it. Also, practice what you preach.

You are making zero sense as I'm just here to talk about my 2d game, Hibernaculum, and mentioned that no, I don't play many 3d games these days. That is a relevant point to... Making 2d games?
No, you stupid fuck, it is not. If I am "making zero sense" to you it is probably because you're the one with the brain problem.

It doesn't matter whether you play 3D games or not, because I - too - am not talking about 3D games. You can make a helmet-looking UI element for a 2D game. Doom mod is one example. The guy who is making Conscript said in an interview his game is in 2D, although it looks 3D.

...I feel like I'm explaining coloured blocks to a toddler here lol.
...said the blind man.

Are you still polishing and creating core systems or creating actual content already? How do you create new areas? Is it some sort of custom blocks placement or 3D rendered area made into 2D?

I don't play 3d games except for Wolfenstein ET lol :D
What that has to do with anything?

He’s not
Indeed, he is not. I wouldn't have much faith in a developer who can't grasp that it's possible to create a filter allowing the game render the helmet-like UI shape. After all, DOOM is no 3D game and it was possible for modders to accomplish this much:

But apparently for some developers it is not possible without going into full 3D.

Oh goddamn, the fucking all caps font. Why do people not realize it makes text a pain to quickly read. Our brains need some structure to work fast.

He was talking about you bro.
Indeed I was busting on Harthwain but his point was totally valid. This victor guys’ response about not liking 3D didn’t make any sense as Harthwain gave numerous examples of 2D games with a helmet and visor view. I totally understand if the guy just wants to do things his way, it’s his game. But if that’s the case, why not just say that? Why make excuses? Maybe he’s just not terribly bright

So long as people are fighting, I'm happy.

Ya it’s too boring here otherwise. Gotta stir the pot every now and again!

the visors in those doom mods look like trash, so I'm not sure they're making the point you want them to

What point are you trying to make? I think the visors in DOOM mods are more interesting from visual point of view. That said, I even wrote myself that not liking the visors-like UI elements is fine:

It doesn't appeal to you? That's fine, there is no need to make dumb excuses [...]
Had VP limited himself to just saying he has a different vision/doesn't like it or something to that effect, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. It was simply making a suggestion, without having any hopes for it to actually be implemented. In fact, we got an interesting visual presentation of a helmet-assisted visualization of enemy HP out of it, so that was nice and it's a shame it didn't end there, on a good note. But he had to make a bizarre comment and here we are now, with people picking this up even further for no real reason.

I am a big fan of pixel art, by the way.

Vitiligo, in a sci-fi setting, in a ship where people likely never had contact with the sun anytime soon... Okay, you told us enough. By the way, ever heard of Dustborn?
