Anime Honkai: Star Rail - It sucks almost as much as mods changing titles

Idk why they decided to make an E2 be ~40-50% DPS increase, when typically Eidolons are only around ~10% per, except for E6.
Money.
It took all my saved up resources to get her once (160 pulls). So E2 is out of the question.
IIRC, I got her in around 30 or less, but I'm still not wasting resources when I know this game's pity system has that coinflip thing.

Ehh, they could've done so on any number of occasions prior. Seems arbitrary for them to do it now. Looking at the stats we have available, she's unlikely to even beat Ruan Mei numbers.

At the end of the day, the game isn't difficult enough to encourage any kind of p2w or pay for power behavior, so people tend to just pull for characters they like at this point.

The reason why she is THAT good is also the fact that she is legacy character that by now is in all 4 of Mihoyo (the developer) major games.

She is cross games fan favourite that will now way get a normal kit.

Isn't Himeko too? I know she was in at least one other title.

Yeah she appears in other 2. Both times she died as mentor figure. Also not as popular as Mei/Acheron is, probably years since she got a new "alt" in the last game she appeared in. Mei/Acheron so far is the only one to appear in all 4 games

Is there even one woman in this game that's normal?

Is this a real game or is it softcore pornography where numbers go up
This is a real game. You're thinking of Brown Dust 2, or possibly FGO.

I just fought an effeminate redhaired MAN in Star Rail. If this is soft core porn, I wouldn't want to see the porn part of it.

Asta. Qingque. Natasha. Sushang. Topaz. Selee. Himeko

As far as anime convention goes they are all pretty normal.
Natasha is the only normal one in that bunch, even if she does run around with a stuffed animal, shooting toys at the wounded. Ok, never mind, she's weird.

Maybe Himeko, but I suspect that's just because she doesn't talk much.

She definitely has some Dr. Mengele energy hidden underneath that calm deameanor.

But it's not until Penacony that the schizoid character design reaches their peak, with every character being some different variety of unhinged. Ruan Mei would fit right in.

Personally I'd consider characters like Asta, Sushang, Natasha, Seele, Bronya, Himeko etc. fairly normal, they all have normal goals and ambitions within the world they live in. Then there's characters like Xueyi and Hanya who live "normal" lives despite their backstory being one of the most fucked-up ones you can imagine, and then there's the full schizo characters like Ruan Mei, Sparkle, Topaz/Aventurine, Kafka etc.

Yeah, I've been going through Penacony for a bit now and see what you mean.

It's a nice change of pace from Space China, even if it is just a Persona ripoff at its core.

Speaking of Penacony, the localizer cancer is real.

Sparkle tells Aventurine he'd be better off finding a mute to be friends with, but the TL changed it to "rock", I guess to avoid offending the handful of mutes playing the game.

Except she was hinting at a specific mute, and that's a key plot point. So the dubs have her later saying "didn't I tell you to find a mute?" even though she said "rock".

I think the subs have already been fixed, but the dub is still there.

I think this is a typical case of the translators not getting the relevant context. In english, it sounds a lot more natural as a cheeky insult to tell someone to be friends with a rock, than "be friends with a mute", and without the proper context that "mute" should be translated literally, not figuratively, mistakes like this tend to happen.

Seeing how Sparkle is openly racist, I doubt this was a matter of "don't offend anybody", her entire nature is to offend and upset people.

the writing is already cancer to begin with
I felt that Jarilos VI was kind of meh, with the Xianzhou Luofu arc being downright boring, but I wouldn't consider Penacony's overarching narrative, storytelling or writing to be cancer. Quite the opposite, actually. There's a lot of foreshadowing, hidden meanings and some cheeky pop-culture references that are blended into the way the story is told, and to me that's the hallmark of competent writing.

I.e. it turns out that not only was the entire reveal of 2.1 teased throughout the story already, the 2.0 trailer music lyrics also happened to be foreshadowing almost the entirety of the 2.1 story arc. That's pretty impressive.

I'm also pretty convinced that Gallagher is the "good guy" who helps people reach the true Penacony, often referred to as "The Other Side" in the 2.0 trailer, for example. Similar to what Sparkle did with us in part of the 2.0 story already. His mentioning of "being thirteen" is almost certainly a reference to Major Arcana XIII, Death, which isn't usually representative of a phyysical death, but a revealing change or unexpected development. It's also revealed in one of the sidequests in 2.1, that the memory memes are actually people that The Family punished for going against them. Definitely a lot of narrative threads laid out for the final act in 2.2.

In English, it makes no sense to tell someone to find a rock to befriend. We had *pet* rocks back in the 60s and 70s, but that fad has been dead since before the TL was likely born. So either the TL is not an English speaker, was incredibly negligent or did it on purpose. All of which are possible, but I find the latter more likely than the others.

If this were 10 or more years ago, I might agree with you without looking into it further. But I've seen TLs do this over and over every chance they get. I've even seen actors change their lines just because they thought it was funny, and then openly admit it and brag about getting away with it in interviews years later.

I think the reason they changed this and not the racist rant is because this is what they could get away with changing. I'm sure the TL would have liked to have changed both lines.

The best defense you could make for it is that they felt like they had a choice between saying "rock" and "mute" and just went with the less offensive option. In the worst case, I think they knew full-well what the character was meant to say and chose to change it.

Here's the line in the original Chinese:
https://wiki.biligame.com/sr/夜色名为温柔
???:给你个提示吧:既然你谁也说服不了,何不考虑去找个哑巴做朋友呢?至少他不会反驳你,哈哈。
"找" = "find/seek"
"个哑巴" = a mute

For it to be "find a rock" it would have to say something like "找到一块岩石". They look nothing alike.

Not sure how the translator could make this error by mistake.

Oh okay so you're one of those people who thinks anything that people don't say daily in X location isn't real.
I didn't said "daily", I said "ever." Have you ever heard of someone befriending a rock or being told to?

I'll take that as a weirdly butthurt "no."

Anyway, I already proved it was an impossible mistake to make with the translation, so this digression means nothing.
