Are there *any* Japanese games that contains characters that look like real people and not sickenlingly cutecomic book characters with spikey hair, "wary" expressions and enormous eyes?
My impression is that it all looks very much alike and is extremely formulaic...

That's only because of the graphic limitations for those games. If I remember correctly, the artwork for the characters is pretty anime-like.

Finished 2 so far, FF4 (nice) and Chrono Trigger (awesome). I've tried a few others, but they sucked so I gave up

I believe (as well as few others) that PS:T is western-style jRPG. KOTORs are there just to make it even.

I got Grandia II for Christmas like 5 years ago, and it's to this day the only JRPG I have ever actually finished.

I dabbled in Cobra Mission when I was a kid because I was lonely and I had no porn (I later found a few of my father's vcr tapes, either unlabeled or mislabeled (Highlander II); they were very... German.)

When I was a kid, I completed both world/maps/regions of Pokemon Silver. Does Pokemon count? Technically, it doesn't 'end', and is it even considered a JRPG?

Other than that, I've played quite a few JRPS (I was quite fond of them when I was smaller), but never actually beat any.

If you need money, I recommend you turn tricks in Timisoara. It's like a goldmine.

I almost completed Pokemon Red, the original ones. For some reason, I lost interest during the elite 4.

I remember finishing a N64 game, Goemon. Pretty entertaining. It's the most japanese thing ever, but I don't thin it can be considered a jrpg.

All Zeldas

Wrong genre there mate

EDIT: I remember playing Azure Dreams at a friend's place. Being about 12 at the time, I didn't see how creepy the pictures of underdressed posing 12-14 year old girls really were. Pretty good pokemon/roguelike/datingsim hybrid though.

Around 80+ I guess, maybe even more.

I don't really count the games I finish.
I play them for fun, not for bragging rights. :)

@ yes plz

You remember wrong. And i am not saying it to, like, make you look bad or anything. While Kaneko's artwork is very influenced by anime, manga, and the like it has a very particular and distinctive style, particularly with the faces and all. You may be getting it mixed up with the guy from Persona 3 and 4, whom actually likes to, like, draw big eyes and weird hair colors.

This is Kaneko's artwork for the series. While no one would confuse it with the work of a western artist it is very much un-anime, if by anime we mean, like, the traditional tropes and thingies and stuff of the style and all that.

Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
Example 4
Example 5
Example 6
Example 7

I am not particularly fond of his style, too close to the uncanny valley for me to like, or something. But it is pretty easy to distinguish and all that stuff.
