So, I decided to reinstall Skyrim and give Requiem a try. I managed to die before I even got inside Helgen Keep, because I got too close to a fire. Once I did get inside the keep, I drank some wine because I thought the stamina regen would help, and it gave me double vision. I'm pretty sure I killed a few of my own guys, because I was shooting everything that moved rather than risk letting an enemy get close. Then someone did get close, destroyed my bow and thoroughly murderized me.

This mod is fucking awesome.

For the record, if you haven't noticed you start with 2 perk points to specialize your character from the get-go (I didn't realize until I gained a level normally). Unlocking spell school mastery levels gets you choose from a list of relevant spells (for example, investing in Fundamental Destruction will net you the basic shock and freeze spells, since you start only with the fire one).

3 perks and they are essential in making your character not suck horribly at something, being effectively your starting class declaration.

You can for example get yourself some starting spells, or make heavy armor practical to wear.

For a better hiking and surviving experience id recommend

iHud - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3222/? - Hides crosshair / compass.

Frostfall - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11163/? - adds a new survival system based around sheltering from elements and preserving heat.

Wet and cold - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27563/? - dynamic wet and cold related effects (goes well with frostfall).

IMP's more complex needs - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10639/? - advanced hunger/sleep mod that adds a bunch of other things to keep track of (calories, nutrients, hydration n such).

Locational Damage - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12615/? - point blank headshots from a crossbow actually kill people now. (among other things).

hunting in skyrim - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18866/? - adds a perk tree / hunting guild / stat tracking / skinning etc.

fishing in skyrim - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16139/? - adds fishing (duh).

Climates of tamriel - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17802/? - best weather mod out there.

Open cities - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8058/? - removes loading screen when you enter a city, they are an actual part of the world now.

and some immershun mods that just expand flora / fauna, like:

Birds of skyrim - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17723/?

Skyrim hd insects - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4955/?

Real wildlife - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9778/?

I don't think he meant it as a compliment.
Some have not found the light yet.
Others are blinded by it.

I'll never tire of this image.

But yes, it does look like his brightness is set higher than usual.

By the way, DraQ thanks for showing me the light. Requiem is really, really interesting. Can't think of a better compliment than the fact that I actually want to use a companion now.

I'm playing as a pure caster (no armor, no weapons), with a few other spell mods but most of the arsenal is Requiem's additions / changes. Pretty fun, but I die relatively frequently. If that bothers you, you're probably better off going hybrid.

That Redguard game is not half bad.

 It's Disney's take on the Elder Scroll.
I'm confused what they were aiming for. But you see Todd Howard as the Producer so yeah, welcome to Stros M'kai, buddy. Enjoy the ride.

Which schools of magic are you using? Is a companion enough or do you need conjuration too to take the attention away from you?

I use FUCKING EVERYTHING:x

I don't have the luxury to choose when every encounter has the potential to kill me, so I'm using every magic school (plus enchanting, but that might only be worthwhile later on). I'm using conjured pokemans for the time being. While a follower would improve my fighting ability quite a bit, I never have enough money to pay for the mercenaries' steep cost (spells are expensive, and I gotta have them all). Didn't meet any worthwhile "free" followers either (I'm not taking someone like Ysolda into the wilderness so she can be destroyed by the first sabercat that sneaks on us). On the plus side, having no followers lets me sneak around and scout for good defensive positions in peace, without having to worry about someone else's safety.

I know I'm a fag and not using Requirem but I've never liked followers in any Bethesderp games. The AI is horrible and, as you note, they ruin any kind of preparation/stealth approach. During combat they also tend to get in the way.

Their function is solely to draw some fire on them so you can get some shit done in peace. Though I'd imagine in Requiem early on your character is so terrible that a companion'll do most of your work for you.

There are mods that improve their stealth AI, including stuff like "turn off the torch while sneaking", "don't attack before I do", "sneak when I do", etc. A follower is definitely worthwhile in higher difficulties if you have the restraint to not just fireball the enemy while he's engaged in melee with it (or if you do it like me and cake them in fire-resistant armor :M).

My summons get as many (if not more) kills as I do, and in a previous playthrough with another overhaul my bro Faendal (who will graciously let you take back the money he demands to train you in archery) definitely killed more enemies than I did (enough to make me get into a supporting role, healing and buffing him often). They pull their weight.

The easiest companion to get is Uthgerd. She just needs a good fisting.

You'll use all of the spells. I recommend Conjuration/Destruction/Restoration first then Illusion (crazy good for crowd control) but you'll want every school. But you shouldn't be shy of wearing a simple dagger in order to finish off that archer with low health. Also grab a companion who can tank for you (heavy armor and shield).

Clockwork Knight if you get interesting NPCs, there's a heavy armor combatant back in Riverwood. I've been using him. EDIT: Any mods that let give them commands? Sometimes I'd rather they did not charge into an open field full of archers.

DraQ miraculously I thought of an even better compliment for Requiem. I'm using Alchemy now and not just for money. In fact, I'm making regular travels to the mountains in order to stock up on Magicka potions. Requiem's brought out Skyrim hiking potential, it seems.
