Nightdive have produced excellent remasters, as well as more average ones. Their work on Quake II was honestly stellar, and is the definitive version of the game in all aspects, despite being proprietary. If it's a high priority game for them, they will put the time and effort to making sure everything is done right. If it's a low priority game, they'll do the bare minimum. The recent Dark Forces remaster was one such case, despite being Soy Wars-related ().
The Dark Forces remaster is shit.
Those cutscenes are butt ugly.
Fuck that remaster. Just play the original and install whatever else you need on top of it.
Semiurge Including Amnesia: The Dark Descent?
I really like that game. The best in the series, arguably the only one worth playing.

I only played the first two, they at least deserve to be re-released. Classic survival horror from Sweden.

Nightdive occasionally fumbles a remaster here or there but even the Blade Runner remaster was nowhere near as bad as Kingpin Reloaded. Honestly not even in the same universe of bad remasters. Their track record with remastering old games is like a B+ at worst when compared to other developers.

Their Exhumed/Powerslave remaster (one of my favorite games) was excellent

Ran great, 0 bugs

Well, they already butchered the cover. Looks much less ominous now with that bright orange and higher brightness in general.

Yeah, somehow the pure blue palette is more ominous than blue/orange... more easily associated with "polar horror"

Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't played it in about twenty years but there's nothing in The Thing that couldn't be fixed by tweaking some values, right? Either Nightdive fixes things like negative blood testing then the subject suddenly transform in the next room or modders do it themselves.

I'd argue the only thing that prevented that from happening in the first place was a lack of interest and a digital release.

I wouldn't even ask for a remake, since we all know it would turn out far worse than any remaster. Better to fix up the original game with it's original assets and code as much as you can, and call it a day. That's all anyone should expect from this one to begin with.

If they fix ALL the issues, great, but even if it's 75% better than the original, you really can't complain. Now if only they could remaster the Dungeon Keeper games and Myth: The Fallen Lords/Soulblighter.

Well, if you believe the PR, they're doing a lot more than that here.

  • Experience brand new dynamic lighting, specular mapping, shadows, depth of field complemented by improved models, textures and environments to create a deep level of immersion.
Could amount to jack shit, but I guess we'll see.

Its honestly too mid to deserve a remaster. Game was interesting on paper. It was clearly crafted by people with love for the film. But in actuality its a very average TPS with its central hook being rendered mundane once you realize its all scripted.

Imagine that Nightdive got a hold of those abandonware Monolith games. Or even just Blood 2. I'd play the fuck out of that if its AI and bugs were fixed, and the combat balance was made sane. It's a shit game, but it still possessed some style.

They tried and failed to get remasters of the No One Lives Forever games made, but because the IP is in legal limbo and partly owned by multiple companies, no one is willing to make it happen. Blood II is a very likely possibility, since Atari owns the IP now I believe. But it would take a lot of work to redeem that game. At the very least they can fix up all the bugs, improve the visuals and cutscenes, and send the hitscanners to hell where they belong ideally. But it would only turn a 3/10 bad game into a 5/10 average one.

Shogo would make for a better remaster, and let's add the first F.E.A.R and Condemned to that list because why not.
