Anime JRPGs just triumphed.

Can you admit that JRPGs are simply better than Western RPGs?

Can we admit once and for all that JRPGs have completely beaten western RPG genre? Nobody plays western RPGs anymore except the 20 years old software from the dusties. Meanwhile weaboos play recent releases constantly.

Great list, there's a clicker game called "Banana" ranked 6th.
There's nothing wrong with the list, this is just what people play nowadays.
It's what the largest nation on Earth plays - the idiots.

Ryzer you fucking mongoloid when will you understand that the most complex form of art (and videogames) can only be truly enjoyed by the HIGHER LIFE FORMS ?

That's why russniggers and balkanoids always like some ugly and claustrophobic games like UnderRail and think it is the best thing ever. It's basicly a cockroach simulator lol. For sure they gonna love it ! Sweeper

Fine, I'll play.
7: isn't this being heralded as the death of warhorse due to being sjw? Personally I didn't care for the original and haven't played this. Do monocled individuals like this?
14: A game that is seen as such a black swan that devs were crying out in "you can't expect this to happen ever again, it's impossible to reliably make games this good, it's going to crash the industry". If no one thinks success like this (I didn't like it, but eh) can be reproduced, surely that is evidence that the mandate of gygax has left wrpgs behind?
45: garbage open world with level scaling, does anyone like this?
90: 10 year old game, how is this relevant to current state of development?
91: lmao, game released this week and can't even beat 10 year old game, shows how sorry of a state wrpg are in.

But it's not like I can point to a good jrpg to come out last year sooo :M

Excuse him, he is just Polish. That's how they interact in Poland, with incessant growls like rabid animals.

You'll play what? First post of OP says that nobody plays WRPGs, nowadays 5 seconds of googling proves him wrong? What's there to discuss? Quality or wokeness factor of the games has nothing to do with this. I personally don't give a shit what people play. If everyone of Earth played Veilguard and JRPGs were played only by 20 dudes in Nebraska it would still mean nothing.

Only unfortunate thing is that a lot of the smaller indie games never come to the west. Two of the best JRPGs I played in the last few years were Indie-ish Jrpgs made by one dude. In a way this also filters the worst of the bunch since actually terrible games rarely come to the west.

JRPGs have declined as much as western RPGs in the past 25 years
I think it's worse on western part. Some western rpg games like Mass Effect and Skyrim ditched RPG attributes stats. All jrpg games I had played still have those.

Ironically, it's the only game of those listed I actually tried and liked. It's got a lot of fun emergent gameplay in it's missions- sneaking into locations through alternate routes, causing distractions, killing people by hacking a forklift, etc. Definitely gave me a good sense of playing as a cyborg ninja, combining normal stealth elements with superhuman reactions and movement speed to avoid getting caught. There were a lot of dumb characters and missions too, but that's the great thing about an open world- just skip 'em. If anything, the worst aspect of the game is how long you get railroaded for before all the optional stuff opens up, and the main missions you get forced into aren't even close to the best ones.

Both are mostly dross, but there are the odd gems still, mostly in niche series which Joe Normie ignores.

Honestly, I'm fine replaying most games between '85 thro '05 tbh, a lot of those games were built to be mastered and it's fun doing so.

Talking about Mass Effect & Skyrim when it comes to western RPGs shows how ignorant you are and shouldn't be talking about this topic

Mass Effect series was a poster child of western style rpg before Skyrim was released. By coincidence both were devoid of rpg attributes stats. Mass Effect 2 is FF7 of western style rpg.

Which one are those?

I like JRPGs in general, but I would like to see a JRPG that's as free-form and systemic as KCD 2.
Astlibra Revision and Demon Roots. Yeah, I wouldnt compare them to KCD2, different focus and all that.
