This looks like Heroes of Might and Magic made love to Total War, and we have yet to know if the baby will be fugly or not.

For so often a muscular handsome man and a blazing hot redhead come together and make sweet sweet love with the end result being a strangely proportioned boy with a pale complexion, hubble-telescope-like glasses and flaming locks of scarlet hair. As if his sole purpose in this world was to be a target for insults.

Anxiously waiting to torrent it. If it turns out shit, I'll not regret spending $ on it.

Wow, that GT video impressed the hell out of me :)

No idea what the gameplay will be like, but they sure got the look and atmosphere right. I kind of like the idea of a TW style game with dungeons and RPG heroes with a bit of C&C. This game just might be something really special. Of course, it could also be total shit too - but I'm a "glass half full" kinda guy....

For the last time, watch the fucking video. Quests and dungeons on the fucking strategic map is nothing like Total War.

i watched the video. Added features doesn't make it dissimilar to total war.

Okay, okay, I get it, you never played MoM or Warlords, so you'd rather use the "It's like Total War... with quests and magic!" comparision. This is the new shit, after all.

full with rage over new games then. I suspect I played those games long before you though. I can as well say MoM and Warlords didn't have real time battles which makes them far less the same.

Release date is Nov 12 2009, nobody sure which DD platforms to start with but it isn't like there's a giant list.

I just emailed their product support, hopefully they will provide the answer.

In the meantime I suggest we post any new information in this thread.

But I think it will be available on Steam. (hopefully not only, since I am not very keen on that stuff)

Delayed until Nov 24, as stated on the main site. Confirms Steam at least DD wise though.

I got Crusaders and it was okay. Worth the $20. It looks like this will be largely the same game but with a roleplaying campaign instead of a series of missions.

Supposedly it fixes the biggest problem that Crusaders had, heavy scripting of battles, via having no scripting in the entire lot of them. While likely ratcheting up everything else I guess.

Kinda feels like the first game was getting their feet wet as an experience and this one looks to make a big run of it. I suppose we'll be able to infer a bit once the price is revealed for this one versus Crusaders.

My download is at 90%. I probably won't have time to play much today, but I'll write some impressions tommorrow.

A fine ass means big bonuses on and off the battlefield. Duh. Glad to see some magic. Hope the game is as fun as it looks.

Couldn't resist. Fired it up and played half an hour. Got through the tutorial I think.

I haven't got much experience in the wargame-category, so I can't compare what I saw to other games in that category. What I saw in my quick peek were some very fine graphics.* The artwork as well as the design seems to be very good. It's historic middle ages with a few fantasy sprinkles. These sprinkles will probably be more evident when you meet the fae people though. The arthurian themes are very well done.

Is it normal to have staminabars on each unit in these type of games? It seems like a realistic yet bad design choice; if your units run, they lose stamina, and become less effective when they fight. Meaning unless you're fighting archers, walking will often be the best option (which means the battle progresses slowly). It's not so bad though, since you can toggle the game speed.

Got to cast one spell, which caused fog and reduced the damage archer's dealt. Filled the whole area with fog - pretty cool. All my units have gotten XP, but no leveling up yet...

Man, these wargames are alot to take in. You got your different types of units, different formations, the terrain modifies different units in different ways, you can hide in forests and ambush, there's victory locations on the map with different properties, and so on and so forth. It's a bit overwhelming, and that's only the battlemap. There seems to be a lot of stuff to take care of on the turnbased overland map, managing provinces, fiefdoms, etc. but I've yet to see that yet.

I didn't see much of the supposed "roleplaying." yet, except for the minor spoiler below.

The voiceacting borders on horrible so far, but that's not too bad in this kind of game I should think. And fortunately, not all of the text is voiced.

Minor spoiler below (it's at the beginning of the game):

I got to see the objective system also. I was approached by two kings ruling two opposite provinces. One had declared war on the other, and both kings wanted me to help them. Kill the rightful king and I get EVUL points and a badass sword, fight the tyrant and the rightful king and his units join me and I get CAREBEAR points. I suspect Christian/Old faith points will be distributed the same way.

Wow. This became way too TL;DR-worty.

*Although the animations of units actually fighting each other were horrible. But maybe that's a staple of the genre?

Huh, apparently you also get to manipulate your little underlings. Give them a small kingdom, hitch them to some random noble lady, and thus ensure they're tied to you and stay loyal.

I'm somewhat interested to see if they'll actually betray you if you neglect them. Or are they going to be 'Lance Vance' style with high upkeep and demands for a bigger slice of the pie.

Here's the features blurb they have over at torrentrush, should be able to glean some stuff from it;

Features
Real-time fantasy battles: spectacular fight scenarios on grandiose
battlefields, featuring thousands of soldiers and powerful heroes such as
Sir Lancelot, Sir Galahad or Merlin. Battles rely on the strengths and
weaknesses of the different arms with several tactical possibilities, the
abilities of the units and the heroes, monsters and most of all, spells.

Turn-based Campaign Map: Britannia is represented as a fully three
dimensional topographic map where heroes move freely, conquer provinces
or find adventures. In the turn-based campaign the changing seasons have
effect on the gameplay and the graphics of the Campaign Map.

Create your own legend! The saga of King Arthur is an epic tale about the
conquest of Britannia through a story-based campaign. The Campaign is
divided into chapters, like a chronicle, each with a unique tone and
theme. The chapters all have objectives, long- and short-term goals that
also fit together to draw a grandiose picture of an unfolding storyline.
There are many possible events and outcomes that all influence the legend
itself and determine the ending of the storyline.

Morality Chart: Every decision in the game will influence the position of
King Arthur on the Morality Chart. King Arthur might become a Christian
ruler or the Follower of the Old Faith a rightful or a ruthless monarch.
These choices unlock special contents, allies, heroes, units and
developments.

RPG elements: Heroes lead the armies and learn skills, spells and
abilities from an ability tree for experience points. Heroes can also use
magic items or become liege lords, entrusted with the leadership of a
province, which is the best way to have them indebted. Arranging their
marriages with the nice damsels of Arthurs court also raises their
loyalty.

Adventures: adventuring is the essence of King Arthurs world. Quests pop
up on the Campaign Map regularly. In technical terms it is a short story
where the chosen knight has to make important decisions. Some adventures
end in battles on special battlemaps.

Mm looking good. Let's demo it and see if it's worth my money. From what you people said it looks like Total War game with magic, fantasy and campaign done better. Maybe even done right.
