Couldn't resist. Fired it up and played half an hour. Got through the tutorial I think.
I haven't got much experience in the wargame-category, so I can't compare what I saw to other games in that category. What I saw in my quick peek were some very fine graphics.* The artwork as well as the design seems to be very good. It's historic middle ages with a few fantasy sprinkles. These sprinkles will probably be more evident when you meet the fae people though. The arthurian themes are very well done.
Is it normal to have staminabars on each unit in these type of games? It seems like a realistic yet bad design choice; if your units run, they lose stamina, and become less effective when they fight. Meaning unless you're fighting archers, walking will often be the best option (which means the battle progresses slowly). It's not so bad though, since you can toggle the game speed.
Got to cast one spell, which caused fog and reduced the damage archer's dealt. Filled the whole area with fog - pretty cool. All my units have gotten XP, but no leveling up yet...
Man, these wargames are alot to take in. You got your different types of units, different formations, the terrain modifies different units in different ways, you can hide in forests and ambush, there's victory locations on the map with different properties, and so on and so forth. It's a bit overwhelming, and that's only the battlemap. There seems to be a lot of stuff to take care of on the turnbased overland map, managing provinces, fiefdoms, etc. but I've yet to see that yet.
I didn't see much of the supposed "roleplaying." yet, except for the minor spoiler below.
The voiceacting borders on horrible so far, but that's not too bad in this kind of game I should think. And fortunately, not all of the text is voiced.
Minor spoiler below (it's at the beginning of the game):
I got to see the objective system also. I was approached by two kings ruling two opposite provinces. One had declared war on the other, and both kings wanted me to help them. Kill the rightful king and I get EVUL points and a badass sword, fight the tyrant and the rightful king and his units join me and I get CAREBEAR points. I suspect Christian/Old faith points will be distributed the same way.
Wow. This became way too TL;DR-worty.
*Although the animations of units actually fighting each other were horrible. But maybe that's a staple of the genre?
