But Henry's story is similar to that of Sir John Hawkwood, an English tanner's (wealthy but common) son who eventually got knighted after serving as an archer at the Battle of Poitiers/Crécy and later became an important figure in Italy. And that's just one example - another is Hans Waldmann, also a tanner's son who made it big because he somehow married a rich widow.
