3. West coast
4. Going soutwest
5. South coast
6. Eastern reaches, Orclands & ending
Author's note: High quality front covers provided by GoG. This LP is dedicated to the lost cause and is planed to consist of 95% of screenshots and 5% of effort. If you take offense in this sort of approach, please feel free to express your displeasure as verbose as possible. You may not know it but bumping your own stuff can be a pretty depressing task at times.
Been a while since I played RoA. I've beaten part 1 only once, with a pdf of the official German walkthrough in close reach so I wouldn't miss the good bits. My memories are as enduring as the writing on a chalkboard however so I highly doubt that this will help me now. We'll see.
Still need to fill those five empty character slots first though, so everyone is invited to what might become a very long lasting endeavour. Now I was going to write that you can either give your preferences or get your hands dirty yourself by downloading game and manual and upload your character with a service like Dropbox as you would do me a great favour. It turned out however that RoA has become the official property of GoG hence downloading the game for free may be regarded as a bit illegal. I'm still in hopes that providing manual & character generator won't trigger a juristic outcry but if it does, I guess we'll notice soon enough. I'm a little rusty on the character system myself but I will try to give you enough pointers for you to figure things out.
Here is how it goes when you start up the editor (you'll sometimes need to use the right mouse button to reopen the quick menu):
1. Choose advanced as difficulty level
2. Get a name
3. Get a gender
4. Choose 'New Attributes'. The game will then start to roll the dice for you in a range between 8 (bad) to 13 (super). These are your positive attributes (explained on page 15 in the manual). Then the game will roll again for your neg'e'tive attributes in a range between 2 (non-existent) to 8 (fatal flaw) (explained on page 15 as well)
5. If the attributes shouldn’t turn out after your liking, you can modify them with the ‘Change Attributes’ option. There you can either decrease a positive attribute by one point for decreasing two points worth of negative attributes or in return increase one positive attribute for increasing negative attributes for two points as well.
6. Once you got the attributes on paper, you can then proceed with choosing an archetype (a class in other words). You will need to hit the minimum requirements to be able to choose an archetype (see the appendic’i’es on page 56 in the manual. Be warned however that some of the entries may be incorrect)
6.1 (Magicians) Choose your preferred arcane school
6.2 (Magic users) Convert attempts to improve your spells into attempts to increase skills
6.3 (Magicians) Convert mana into attempts to improve your spells
7. Get a face
8. Now that you got a class, you can click on the arrow buttons on the bottom to access the skills section. You get a limited number of attempts total to increase them and this number is further limited for each individual skill (you can’t use any more attempts after failing three times in a row) and skill category. Once you found a section that interests you, just right click to open the menu, pick a category, chose the skill you want to increase and start rolling
9. Modify your parry and attack values either making your guy/gal stronger in offence or defence
10. (Magic users) Improve your spells. This is the same progress as increasing your skills with a separate attempt pool. As TheLostOne pointed out, the manual lacks a more detailed spell description, so you’ll have to look them up in this alternative manual if you’re interested
And you’re done. Just save the hero and send the .chr file with his name on the journey.
