Alright this is when the game shifts completely into open mode. What does it mean? There's no more stamina scheduling. That part of the game is completely over.
Some things that are completely locked down include:
- Martial Art Type Passive Skill e.g: Blade, Sword, Staff etc
- Internal Arts e.g: You're stuck at whatever level you got at the end of Year 4 August, so plan carefully. Not doing enough internal training can lead you to hitting end game with low HP. Thankfully there are other ways to gain Max HP & Energy, so it's not that fatal.
- Sight and Hearing: AFAIK there's no way to train these with the mini games. Which sucks BTW.
- Same deal with the non-combat arts like Painting, Calligraphy, if your martial arts derive its overall damage based on such stat, you're shit out of luck.
- Martial Style EXP that unlocks new move sets can no longer be trained as well. So it's down to the standard combat usage if you desperately want the EXP. However, there is a serious problem:

There's only a fixed number of bears in the map. And yes, no random encounters mean you have no opportunity to experiment anymore. You better have the synergies down or you're pretty much fucked.

OK, so I like the C&C of not planning your training carefully, you have nearly FOUR years and you still haven't come up with a good final style? You're fucked, because this is when winning/losing really matters. It's GAME OVER if you lose.
As I've mentioned before, there are several ways to overcome some weaknesses but almost all of them are not really fun. In fact I can safely say this world map bullshit is the most not fun part of the game for me.

Blind and Poison should easily make it a -30% hit chance. So... what's the odds of me getting hit at all? We'll see.
The monks provide no challenge and were beaten back easily.

I can tell my guys to quaff restoratives, but the amount of incoming damage and flanks mean one of them would just drop next turn from focused attacks.

You gain 2 points for every fallen ally.
To use Items you need to spend 2 SP.
To use some tactic, you need 4-8 SP.

I don't think this gamble really paid off. I should've used thunderbombs instead.

Thankfully, this encounter isn't as hard as the Shaolin Temple. The only named character is Cao Dai. And he doesn't have a lot of HP to beat down. But take note that Cao Dai isn't the centerpiece of this 'encounter gimmick'

Yeah, the Huashan disciples have a few 'captains' that possess Zixia internal art that boosts the critical chance of allies within a 1-hex radius. This creates really high burst damage potential when they flank the Guardians. Three crits would floor either of them and the field is pretty open. What to do?

It went pretty shit at turn 1.

Surprisingly the Huashan still insists on surrounding me. They don't attack because I'm invulnerable. That's when I realized flanking is way too prioritized by the AI.

By then it's basically too late, their buff captains are already neutralized and that's left is to mop them up.

It would've been a little bit harder if I didn't have enough HP & Evasion to tank them. Overall I calculated that they must've wasted over 10 actions on me. And that's a lot of damage not being done.
