If there is any way to pick, and if I ever *do* become the magic user, can you steer me towards necromancy or at least the darker aspects of magic?

You _are_ a magic user Storyfag

An update will be incoming later. As to what kind of magic one wields in this game, it all depends on your focus. Is it a scroll? A talisman? A wand? A codex? They're all equipment, like a sword or an axe, and you can change them around as you see fit.
It seems the codex is the most powerful, so I'll be looking into getting some proper ones for my magic users. I bank on Storyfag not being the only one when the game is over.

As to when the update hits, that depends on how much free time I get before the computer.

As promised I will deliver another update.

I think I'll use less time in the future on side-quests, and focus more on the story as it unfolds and I do quests/adventures related to this. Otherwise you'll get hundreds of screenshots of me clearing crypts and unlocking research, and that could grow tedious after a while.

If you guys want to see all side-quests though, I might keep them in. When I say side-quests, I think of the tasks I get by visiting neutral settlements. Want me to show them or not?

I start with exactly that. A sidequest gotten from a Slavyan village.
geiDZ7a.png

I decide to do the battle manually.
DOjLMub.png

g7Aea4T.png

This is a battle in which I also deploy my pet wraith. With summons you don't need to care about their health. Which is useful.
G1CuUeI.png

DtcmOjz.png

URwHBZn.png

I also deployed a summoned boar, and our village demon. The battle went flawlessly, the undeads unable to pierce our armor.
NUPxC8C.png

JgGYy8K.png

a45b05Q.png

I0LaAad.png

Seeing as we now have a full-fledged magic user, I stick our master forgers in the village, and trim the expeditionary force down to six people.
kmZbYin.png

Wandering around, another random adventure pops. Here we can choose to act accordingly to what kind of perks our god affords us. In this case, either harmony or nature.
HuYlTl9.png

FqIgwJp.png

A spiritual challenge sounds wonderful! A chance to try our new magic user in action.
NxaJvWV.png

VGthQ1y.png

47Tqrz8.png

We got a nice blessing out of it and some experience, so next turn sees som levelups. I like to improve the crafting skill of our crafters, I pick luck whenever I'm able, and the child? Her skills are "free" as she's reset to lvl1 when she grows up. I like the idea of extra attack options, so she gets the ghostly axes thing.
47Tqrz8.png

GQumzun.png

The side-quests are not a bottomless vessel. The story-provided village has run out of stuff for us to do.
4HcLE59.png

Not counting gambling.
keFYuIo.png

The other Slavyan village still needs stuff killed and lairs cleared though. Also, drinking in the tavern sometimes bestows blessings and alcohol. Other times you just get sick. baud can hold her liquor though.
TfxKI1f.png

9qYjSKL.png

SUwMt7T.png

More levelups. Maybe I should skip those as well. Thoughts people?
hJmFkfv.png

More side-questing.
7UUAybY.png

7ll8nH6.png

p41er97.png

uFkZhly.png

Here's another levelup, where MoistCloister learns how not to simply wait his turn, but act sooner. Wits seem useful for any character.
PF6cYng.png

The other child we received grows up. This time there aren't any really interesting options, so I go for a warrior to protect our village.
apRq4OC.png

eJPCeAF.png

Wandering the countryside, another lightningstorm appears.
X5QUqh7.png

IAwWOdh.png

The gained xp lets Storyfag level up. I choose to bolster his magical abilities.
M2Nx8w0.png

Then a dirt storm strikes. And Storyfag learns how to craft better??
ftvpoos.png

sMOqU1F.png

Our rep with the Slavyans is now so good that I can try to recruit someone. Curious, I make a save to test it.
LICNEbS.png

7evkPua.png

8nPdPwd.png

fSnKMlZ.png

ShMohpj.png

Man. Buying a child is expensive. I decide to pretend that never happened.

Let's just see if they need something done instead.
dgDHbP0.png

WJkFRol.png

E4KoNix.png

8qsO2IF.png

A pet ghost gives a massive bonus to magically related stats, so I can use this ghost to steer children towards magic use. Devious, isn't it?
Also, the season changes to winter, which is the season for learning I guess?
uTcFh3W.png

Wandering around in the winter, I spot another Lightbringer village.
LTD3iFB.png

Before we can enter the village, we need to end turn, and on the next turn, we get some levelups.
L4my14Z.png

I decide to try and attack the village. Auto-resolve says that I get a proper thrashing.
Not satisfied with that, I play the battle manually, get a decent win, and unlock a Steam achievement. There's a "Beat the Odds" achievement you can unlock, by winning a challenge that auto-resolved deemed unwinnable.
Guess I showed that auto-resolve:
iBfNJx8.png

kkrqZH6.png

Severely drained of faith we are in danger of losing members of the expeditionary team, but luckily there's a ritual for fixing that. We pull it off, and Storyfag levels up again.
D4qFMVD.png

vQFoNmw.png

s1Lx2tY.png

In the meantime, we finish researching that terrain artefact I dug up earlier. I have no idea what it does, but I got the Theopedia entry unlocked at least.
iwpqa5M.png

Further on, I get a random adventure involving goblins. Haven't had any encounters with them before, so didn't know what to expect.
wtnVndw.png

MmZoL2K.png

That seemed like a good outcome.
Back in the village, I decided to build a crop field. Not sure if it was connected to the event I got immediately after, but hey! A free child!
s9rOlky.png

GNlVQUC.png

I get another levelup, where I DON'T pick the +2 option for one of the team, as building Andnjord physical abilites seem wiser.
3R6FSin.png

More gobbo's. This group seems intent on robbing me though, which I don't appreciate.
7vBtgxh.png

yT0P3OG.png

ak85CnI.png

bFDk7iG.png

68JKsGP.png

Then I get another Stork visit. Thinking there's a child in it for me, I happily click the button. Free resources is an OK consolation prize, if only because the light blue stuff can be used to lift curses.
iblZo7E.png

aukgxJc.png

xYDx7xz.png

In this picture we see the boost the ghost provides. Quite hefty.
vW8AGT8.png

Then I get an adventure I've only seen positive outcomes to so far. It procs twice in a row.
45B1y0u.png

JT40mgn.png

jl7huTk.png

Another adventure, this time a new one. Our new child doesn't take it too well.
GOQ26ji.png

EcZHKK5.png

And then finally, the main quest rears it head again it seems. This adventure includes a choice, where I have to choose one of my gods two domains. I go with "Harmony"..
JjpCBWs.png

GEv1tI1.png

q8Ssrke.png

taXDEjh.png

f6ukajC.png

Before actually finding the spot the crow spoke of, there's more lore incoming. It pertains to the first Thea game.
61oQ0Rg.png

7gfHGHc.png

is2DKBJ.png

9TpkLDe.png

QqIzJW3.png

OGivDlb.png

4sCk5bf.png

LvoKG3R.png

wN4Zyrx.png

aEqhNv0.png

After that, while ending turn, we get accosted by minor demons.
3xerTzz.png

QQMXfYE.png

CV2DO3B.png

DNEnnX4.png

A random event pops, in which we can lift the curse on our village child. We choose to accept. It turns out it's quite cheap. 30 ordinary wooden logs satisfy the witch..
fLNTZxG.png

7Tjy9Am.png

Then we get to further our gods quest. Finally. I hope the rewards are good. In the first Thea, the god quests rewards were quite satisfying.

I guess we still have some ways to go on the quest..

My wife is calling for me now, so this is where I leave off the update. Enjoy!

When I say side-quests, I think of the tasks I get by visiting neutral settlements. Want me to show them or not?

I'd be fine with skipping generic ones, but I rather enjoy the art and writing. If you see a side quest worth posting, do it.

More levelups. Maybe I should skip those as well. Thoughts people?

The sight of slav men getting better at things is oddly satisfying. But if it is a hassle, maybe consider posting character sheets at the end of every other update instead? Just throwing ideas here, do what you feel is right.

This image cracked me up:

EcZHKK5.png

A Goddess cursed the child with insanity. The game tells you to "rejoice in the blessing of Zorya!"

OK, GAME. I WILL. THANK YOU.

A simple attempt at a tally puts it at 3 yays and 2 nays for posting levelups.
And 1 yay to 4 nays for all side-quests.

I guess I'll keep posting levelup screens then, but only screenshot interesting or new side-quests, and skip on the repeats. :salute:

You could mention sidequests that took place, without going into detail.

Looks good to me

Alright, I dive into the game again. I admit I'm having fun. Why else keep updating the LP over the christmas holidays?

I like the game and do not regret buying it.

Before doing the actual update, here is the single achievement I've unlocked in the game so far:
2ir6V58.png

Don't trust Auto-resolve. That feature is great for glossing over battles, but sometimes you're much better off playing them manually.

We start off with some levelups. We'd just finished a main storyline adventure, netting some XP. Storyfag gets a damage type skill. Silly, as codices let you attack in all types of challenges. But hey, I also make stupid decisions. Andnjord gets to play a part in the yellow type of challenges from now on. :M
8CdRIgj.png

bFk7Sy5.png

Last time, I got a notice that a dwarf smith had set up shop close to our village, but didn't explore that option. Let's rectify that, eh?
ZjEipWs.png

Since we can go there and back in one turn, I outfit our village protector, the unclaimed warrior, and send her to see what this dwarf is all about.
SOqKsrv.png

AJ1DBFd.png

rHlkGNa.png

HHvUeYL.png

ruPTAde.png

So grandpa d0rf here had kids with a water demon, and his granddaughters have now run off and need us to fetch them for him..
Sure. Why not. Dwarfs are renowned for their crafting prowess, he'll reward os for the deed I'm sure. But first, levelups!
zUhKp4J.png

K4ijquK.png

Also, I built a dwelling in our village, and it both boosts morale, but also movement points? At least I hope it does. It's built now. Not sure if it'll help our expedition much.
o72utHn.png

I must admit I didn't really see a change in our movement range.
Our expedition is on its way back, to try and find the spawn of the dwarf, but come across a peculiar sight.

We accept the quest, thinking that we can just grind Slavyan rep later, but we really want to buddy up a bit with the Stingers, so we might be able to trade with them later.
DH80Izf.png

sFLzeY0.png

pN2jyZW.png

-10 to Slavyan loyalty, but +10 to Stingers. Seems fair.
Back to finding those girls. I got two places I can look and check out the closest, and bingo!
9R6RPVX.png

TI0BP5M.png

lZzTfmd.png

6CXaoKB.png

nbqRrjo.png

By6VTlI.png

YZBJQFe.png

The other place is still marked on the map, I'll check that one out later. Doing adventures mean getting experience, so here's some levelups!
xhbPu6l.png

YKlw0Sg.png

The alchemist we ran into earlier wanted access to a cave, and a spot named "Lightbringers" appeared on the map.
The cave is protected by some arseholes that won't let us in, but instead ask us to do some dirty work for them.
NoUNYsY.png

QmJyVo8.png

Nwf7f3h.png

ypVABAo.png

1rUMyhH.png

41zugf9.png

NsgEsMh.png

All of that conflict means more xp and more levelups.
pTHyObh.png

Since we found the rusalka that the Dwarf sent us after, we might as well pickup his reward. I do the same short trip outside as last time.
LdTae1j.png

4yZdAVV.png

qe7wiuf.png

The reward is decent, but not mindblowing.
Good thing there's also levelups!
qe7wiuf.png

I also researched some more terrain artefacts, so unlocked these Theopedia entries.
3oFzqEo.png

pQCl738.png

I've still no idea whether it provides any kind of benefit to research the terrain..
Also, we get a random encounter!
P4nZWGv.png

cNKPXGo.png

rhumKE5.png

BPVPcJJ.png

On the Lightbringers questline, we check out the witches hut that we were told about. We go for the easy challenge to scare them away, and are rewarded with some nice loot, including a nifty codex for Storyfag
dTfWKG0.png

B7ECx9X.png

g4xYRVW.png

4W1h4vN.png

lk3xjts.png

QTVK7e3.png

The people blocking our and the Alchemist's path seem to be real arseholes. Before returning to them, let's also look into their scavenger issue.
ZgEdWZt.png

nd5Cw3g.png

HHP0uym.png

gVdpFK4.png

That image was unsettling, so I decide against helping the scavengers and return to the cave.
Idiots want us to pay, even though we did their dirty work!
I'm pissed, so I choose the dangerous conflict option.
NmMK4Yw.png

sFHANbZ.png

8WukgkA.png

JHGRUlf.png

FJpPkiI.png

buL842g.png

DjMCe6j.png

w1MgVhW.png

We get a shitload of loot, and another child. And have cleared a nest of slavers. I'd say that's a win. We are badly injured though, but we get levelups!
bwtl6kK.png

That Strength of the Swarm skill is supposedly really good, as each new character we set down on the board after baud will boost her stats. I'll look forward to actually trying it out.
Unfortunately, the wounds we sustained were too much for the child in our village. She dies.
yCdWDU5.png

But hey, it was only a child, and we're living in slavic mythology, so it was probably just spared an even worse destiny..
Boldened by the fact that none of our claimed characters bit the dirt, I go to the second spot marked in the dwarf quest, and find some water demons that I choose to dance with.
CpM1qFU.png

1IHhdfP.png

19jcgO3.png

XOD1VYC.png

Well then! Seems the Rusalka are part of a faction, and they appreciated me dancing with them.
At some point, I will have to sail to other islands. I hope that making friends with the water demons is a good thing when I do that.

We have some unclaimed people now. If there are lurkers in this thread, feel free to claim a person I can cruelly torment.
Oh, and I'll update the roster with new screenshots of their stats shortly.

I want to make an update, I really do. But I've amassed 200 screenshots that need to go into the update, so it'll be a while..
On the up-side you can look forward to a rite of passage to magic user going horribly wrong, and more on the deity questline. :M

Also, currently I have 6 unclaimed people in the village/expedition, if there are people around feeling left out. I'll include two screenshots of the entire roster at the end of the next update.

Alright, this is going to be a big one. We will be exploring more of the main quest, we will see other results of mystical training, some more succesful than others, and we will be building a ship to travel to one of the other Islands in Thea.

First off we are going to explore the red cavern we cleared the passage to for the Alchemist.

We have strengthened our magical powers, so I choose that challenge. It's nothing special and we easily beat it.

OK, so we need to Know More, and we are told that dwarves and elves can help in that department. We are also told the exact location of one dwarf who could help.
We'll be following our specific lead instead of trying to sail to another island just yet.
Before that though, the game seems to acknowledge that we've passed the halfway mark, or something in that magnitude, since we're gifted with another Cosmic Seed.
H316F7R.png

4P9wudN.png

So I could build another village, or I could craft the One Ring.
Not decided yet. What would you prefer?

Anyhow, the season changes, and we learn that spring is for recovering from difficult battles.
K0A0ttG.png

Also, levelups! The xp-payout for the red cave was massive.
0ekUofX.png

CvhHidc.png

A bit north of our village I'd spotted a group of people milling about. Wanting to nip a potential problem in the bud, I seek them out.

7eJtLD4.png

YKlKvbo.png

That improves our Scavengers reputation to a positive number. :M Also, more xp equals a levelup again.

I don't know if this random adventure is an omen of what is to come.

Levelups again! And a random boon for Storyfag

Andnjord took one hell of a beating, but we managed to barely scrape by. The loot was good, but I'm not looking forward to facing a Leshy again anytime soon..
In the village, it's time for one of the children to grow up. I get the option for mystical things again (I juggle booster items for just that reason), and this time, the results are ... interesting.
obEce7l.png

kTuTEBJ.png

D0EejOH.png

Welp. We didn't actually lose a village, as he serves still, in unlife. Interesting!
Also, more fun-loving demons who just want to dance are spotted. Who are we to deny them?

IkvOsfm.png

Our new Zerca levels up after dancing with demons.

Outside the village, we bump into one of their stacks. We talk to them, and the stack disappears.

By this time I decide that we need to see different shores. We've mapped the entirety of our starting Island, and found one high-tier resource, dragon-bone. I want more and other resources though, so I need a boat.
We commision one. Built from Elven wood and dragon bones.

Waiting for construction to complete, we take a look at recent Theopedia entries.

After this lull, our ship is finally built! You equip it to an expedition, that expedition moves to a shore and clicks on the water. Remaining movement is spent, and all are aboard the vessel.

There's a nearby small island of the same makeup as our primary island. On it are roaming beasties, one Slavyan village, and a beast lair.
T8aKaqy.png

While our strongest members (the expedition) are off in different lands, the village is attacked. We get unexpected help from a person wearing armour and a shield, but no weapon...

The village people level up. We take a closer look at the joker that joined us. Another fighter to protect the village. I'll take that, yes please.

Then a female child grows up, and gets to try her hand at witchcraft! Results are boring, but useful. She sure does look ugly for a young adult though.

We've been improving the village by adding new buildings, and in some cases, there's a chance for better or worse quality building than expected. I did a few reloads, just to show you this.

Funny how we spell our gods name differently in the game, compared to when we chose the god in the beginning. Only a cosmetic thing, but a little bit annoying.
Mustn't wonder too much though. As we have another levelup!
8ARQeEF.png

Even though we are on another island, dominated by ancient trees and whatnot, we're accosted by scavengers..
baud knows a thing or two about them though, so we capture and treat them and save a child in the process.

Back in the village we've completed a marketplace, which means we get traders incoming. Of the things they've got to offer, we are only really interested in the leather.

Our chosen one, Crooked Bee grows stronger.

Roaming this other island are groups of forest demons. They are hostile, and I have no apparent way of appeasing them. Everytime I encounter a group, conflict is unavoidable, and reputation drops.

I'll see if I can find a village of these demons and do some quests for them, to improve relations.
Before I can do that though, another old man shows up in our village, and we talk him into schooling Grimwulf who evolves into a proper Inventor! Which also means he changes appearance completely.

A levelup. As can be seen here and in several previous screenshots of levelups, I no longer simply choose the "+2" option. I choose whatever I feel supplement the character in question best.

Finally, on the green island, we stumble upon the divine quest.
I had prepared for this, by giving Crooked Bee our best equipment. That is a special suit of armor that protects in all sorts of challenges, not only physical ones, and a codex that can be used with the mental (yellow) stats, which are her best stats.
wHNNdu4.png

She is pitted against two opponents, with no help. The mental battle category is one her opponent is weakest in though, so that's a big plus for us. Even auto-resolve agrees!

Very minor injuries indeed. We get some more exposition on the plot, and get to choose a boon. Since I'd been taking the "harmony" choices at every possible junction, I stick with that here, even though elves sound alluring. They were absolute beasts in the first Thea..

That codex is quite awesome! That random blast skill can seem iffy, but it hits 4 targets and does good damage. In battles where there are few opponents, and they field some cards more than one, we will quite likely hit both instances each time, doubling the damage dealt.
"Legendary" has to account for something. :M
We get some much deserved levelups after this.

Finally, complete roster of our village and our expedition. Feel free to claim unclaimed souls for your own and be included in this LP. :salute:

I honestly have no idea how close I am to the endgame yet. When we consider what kind of materials I've seen available for gathering, I would assume we still have a way to go.

You get more xp for gathering during summer? Nice to know, but I don't think I'll exploit that part of the game. I got places to go, things to see.
But I'M NOT.

So I could build another village, or I could craft the One Ring.
Not decided yet. What would you prefer?
we don't need another village and another demon-protector!:bunkertime:

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Apparently, back in the village, hello friend has been getting acquainted with our unclaimed warrior.

I think you put the wrong picture here. (I just want to know what Hello friend did)

The One Ring of course, seeing how well it worked for Sauron :smug:
Seriously Idk, perhaps a village on the new island will give you easier access to other high-tier ressources

Alright, big choice coming up in this update.

First off, we were on the green island, and I found a forest demon village. Maybe we can salvage our reputation with them?

... Maybe not. We leave them.
Also, we managed to brind a lurker to light in this LP! Welcome aboard Nicebrain

More terrain research is completed. You're not actually notified WHICH terrain research is completed, but I think it's this one..

I keep exploring the island, and see a node of precious resources. Ancient wood is pretty high tier, so if we clear this Demon's circle, and unlock the ability to harvest, we will have 3 nodes right next to eachother..

The green island is also infested with lightbringers. Indeed, they're a faction here.

Not shown is a slight reputation hit for removing that group.
More terrain research is completed. It helps in gathering research points so I can unlock gathering of Ancient wood.

Then I find an elven encampment, and upon entering, we get some plot exposition. Seems the elves were involved in the shattering, in some capacity at least.

OK, a quest location appears, where I can find this elf they speak of. Before doing that though, we stumble upon a random encounter, with a person trying to pull a sword from a stone. I remember a similar adventure in the original Thea.
I keep to the goody-two-shoes approach here. Feel a bit like a paladin..

Oh-kay.. So her gambit is this: we let in the light to rule the world, and everyone joins the Hivemind, and there is no more conflict. All is well with the world.

We get to respond in three possible ways.
Yes.
Yes.
No, with a mental fight. We are NOT equipped to win the mental fight right now.

This is the choice people. Do we accept? If yes, then you get to choose which of the two flavour choices we pick for an answer.
If no, then I'll leave this place for later (saved just before entering), and come back when we are equipped to win the mental fight.

Time to vote, calling Crooked Bee Andnjord Citizen baud Grimwulf hello friend Storyfag MoistCloister Reinhardt Nicebrain

Huh. Apparently, Thea 2 has some of the exact same quests as Thea 1. Guess it's fine, considering all the new content, but feels like lazy design nonetheless.

As for the choice, I say go for a mental fight. We'll probably fail, but it's not a game over - what's the worst that could happen? A couple curses and some humiliation. Can't be worse than living in a world without conflict.

Think about it. Everyone is happy, there is no strife, everything is pure light? THAT'S NOT HOW SLAV WORLD WORKS!

There're two types of challenges, with consequences (color-filled cards icon) and without consequences (color-bordered cards icon). This one is the former. If character loses too much sanity (yellow bar) in that kind of mental challenge, he abandons your tribe (basically dies yea)

If the elf chick wipes the floor with our party in that philosophical debate about light, darkness and shiet, it's a game over
